Background time! Like I posted in the last community tech thread, I've got http://www.xionusa.com/Product-case-XionONYX.asp, black-and-green edition. I noticed the other day that the lights inside the case's front door were flickering and/or out entirely. Harmless, but kind of annoying, especially when you keep seeing flashing in your peripheral vision from it.

Anyway. Today I popped open the door and took a look at things. http://tyraarane.riumplus.com/gallery/d/1278-1/compinteriorleds.jpg Only one light (bottom right) is working; the one up top is doing some feeble flickering, and the two on the bottom left are out entirely. They've all been hot glue gunned into place. They are, I'm 95% sure, 5mm LEDs of the sort the local Radioshack stocks.

My question is this--I've been googling around and found no concrete answers--is it possible to just replace the bulbs? Is it an easy swap, or is there soldering involved? (Seeing as how I've never soldered anything before, that could get interesting.) Or do I need to replace the whole shooting match, wires and all (which is more trouble than it's worth, IMHO)?

Any techies or case modders around who would care to enlighten me?

Usually soldered onto the wire and wrapped in heatshrink.

Hmm. I don't see any heatshrink...they've clearly been soldered, though. So I'm thinking this is what I need to do:

- free the old LEDs from the case. Remove the soldering to disconnect them from the wires as well.
- keep the current wires. Solder the replacement LEDs onto them.
- reattach the new LEDs to the case.
- ???
- fry PC profit!

Does that sound about right?

Personally. I would::

Replace the wires (because im just paranoid about wires (: ). But you basically have it down.

Remove the solder point, and replace the LED with whichever you choose. Preferably one you tried that is working.
Then just resolder the wire back to the contact points.

If you opt you replace all the wires. This usually means buying specific wires which interface with your case., which allow the lights to work in the firstplace. (:
