Replayer or a completionist ?

Post » Sat Jun 26, 2010 2:00 pm

Let′s face it, we argue back and forth about how the game should be and we all have our own ideas, many of us want to be so restricted that we feel like Houdini on a bad day, others want so much freedom that the game should feel like a lucid dream where you can do anything! And then we have everything in between. But the question is, considering the possibility of having content that only certain types of characters can access, for example. We could have a guard faction that is if there is any such organization in Skyrim and we ofc have the Dark Brotherhood confirmed, then some would like to be able to do both but others (me included) want there to be a quest in both factions that forces you to choose sides. And we could have skill based things, like dungeons you can only pass through as a thief or a warrior or a mage (mages tend to be jacks of all trades so there could be some magicka draining zones or something alike).

How much of the game would you want to finish in a single playthrough considering such scenarios ?

Replayer for sure. I don't have the urge to find every location or finish every quest with one character. Especially since that means joining multiple guilds that don't make much sense for the character I'm playing.

Replayer! I never find everything in one playthrough and love to replay through with numerous new characters, trying out each build.

70%, last 30% should be for things like choosing to eliminate one faction over another and for quests where you can choose to give the lost family heirloom back or keep it for yourself, and so on. ^_^

=.= I knew someone would vote "Other" because I put it there :P hehe. Personally I voted 1-10% because while that would not provide a real enjoyable playthrough with for example Oblivions level of content, I like to have big dreams and hope that Bethesda can provide such a superb game that it would work out well.

When I vote 1-10% I am ofc leaning more on the 10% than the 1% though.

Depends on setup, if you have two enemy factions you can only join one if not you should technically be able to do almost everything and explore any dungeon. Yes one quest might ask you to kill another misc quest giver but that is gameplay.
Radiant story might do things like that and it will also give new locations next time.

I have finished Daggerfall, Morrowind and oblivion more than 10 times.

I was going for the "other" option, because of mods, but then answered 100%. Because I think I am only going to make one proper character. Because of time restrains, but also this way my character feels extra epic and unique. Of course this will limit mods available for me, because I won't be restarting much.

EDIT: I understood the question really wrong! I will only play once, and I don't care if there is some content that can't be done because some of my choices.

So new answer is about around 80%. Less could mean more choices that matter, more would mean more things to do (with one character), so it can be a win-win situation for me,

I think we'll be able to complete about 80% in a first playthrough, if not more.
However, I won't do nearly that much as I'll RP it and even if I am allowed to join/do everything, I'll only do what feels appropriate. being forced to make a choice by the game does sound fun though, although I don't think it should block out massive amounts of gameplay for those who like to try a bit of everything.

I miss read the title, I thought it was rollplayer lol. Anyway, I voted other, because it is up to you what ever you want. Some want to do it 100% while others just do the main quest and nothing else.

For Morrowind I tried the do everthing with one character but never could do it because you can only join One House, and it didn't feel right to do so. With Oblvion, it just seemed the way the game
was made to do this. It just seemed naturaly to do everything at once because there was no limitation.

I tend to play as a pure mage, a pure fighter, a pure thief or something in between - and I'm no fan of completing all facions with one character ("Hi, I'm the leader of the Mages Guild, the Thievs Guild, the Mages Guild...").

So I'm a re-player, for sure. As for content you should have be able to complete in one playthrough, no idea. I don't have the energy to estimate a number.

You'll have to define "playthrough" in more detail. Do you mean: just the main quest, or main quest and major guild quests, or (insert other here)? People have different views of it.

But personally, I'd like to be able to encounter 41-50% of the game content in a single playthrough (main quest only).

First game I try to test what and how much can be done, with a general role trying for 80%+.
Second game look to see the other ways of doing stuff, and anything I missed first time.

Around the third to sixth I just roleplay and limit what my character does.

I just want an interesting gameplay a complete and nicely implemented interface and an open and easy way for modders (that include size) the rest is not so relevant, modders always come up with better solutions than bethesda which is normal.

About 50%, because of different outcomes and choices in quests, and rivaling factions you have to choose between.

If this game turns out to be anything like Oblivion I'd say I will have to go through multiple playthroughs to actually complete everything in the game due to quest breaking bugs and quest NPCs accidently getting killed.

When I played Oblivion and Fallout 3, I did everything on one character. I don't have the heart to start over and re-explore everything and repeat quests. I play it to death one one character.

Over 400 hours on Oblivion, 150+ hours on Fallout 3.

Bloody heck, how to answer this question.

It's a TES game, so probably anywhere from 10% - 100% in a single playthrough.

As in you can just zip right through the main story and finale then quit

Or

Take your time and try everything

However,

This boils down to the jack of all trades and being able to join every guild with one character. To that end, I'm fine with about 50% then start a new character to try the other guilds. If guilds are in (I don't know, and don't want to know)

I chose 51%-60%. To some that may seem a little high considering the criteria you laid out, and although I believe in consequences for your character's in-game choices, I also believe your character should have enough room to maneuver morally and socially within the game, so as to have the oppurtunity to evolve along those tenuous paths that some call 'good' and 'evil'. It simply adds another dimension to character growth, and I sometimes like to inject a momentously pivotal moment of redemption (for my selfish, sinister, devious character) or debasemant (for my altruistic hero) along his/her journey, but I only do it when the timing seems right and the elements of the story come together in a way that seems to sensibly justify such a change.

As for the second part about dungeons only being accesible to certain character types(warriors , mages , theives , etc.), I'm for something like that in moderation, and I think if the radiant story is done properly, we may not get dungeons tailored to our character type, but we'll certainly get side quests designed specifically for the type of character we've been playing up to that point.

Completionist! I like the idea of being able to complete the game completely (or nearly) in one play though. There should be no reason not to. The only exception I think there should be is guilds.

I voted around 40%. I would say about a quarter of the game should be dedicated to stealth, magic, and warrior characters, and the final quarter be quests anyone can do.

It doesn't make sense for your magic character to join the Fighter's Guild. It doesn't make sense for your Thief to go escort someone through the woods. It doesn't make sense for your Warrior to pick pocket a rare jewel off of a count. It shouldn't be able to happen, in fact I think it would be bad ass if Radiant Story takes your skills into account. There already is the feature that people can ask you for duels or training based on your skills, it should work the same way for quests. If you're Beefy McLarge-Huge then it'd make sense for you to be asked by a woman to escort her to another city, but if you're Skinny Bookworm-Mage then you'll probably get passed over.
