Report your issues and help create another patch :) (No DLC

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 12:21 am

I have created this thread to help Bethesda's PS3 team create the next patch for our platform of choice. I am also disappointed with the way Bethesda handled things out, but I think it would be great of people showed their interest in fixing the game by helping them out.

I'd advise continuing to report the issue you're experiencing as our team reads these forums. From what I've seen, many of the issues have been prevented and/or fixed with the 1.10 update.

I'll do my best to continue to pass along feedback I see in these forums.

It will be hard, now that the PS3 forum is going crazy so here are some rules:

- No DLC talk: Bethesda has already said that it wont be released on PS3 so please express your anger in another thread. Developers reading this forum are only concerned about helping people out with their problems If someone complaints, please feel free to delete his comment.
- Post patch 1.1 issues only.

READ THOSE THREADS BEFORE POSTING:
http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=890613
http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=890363

You can submit things you think they could add to the patch. Like 1080i support.

Show them you want your problems fixed :)

Thanks.

I've had noticeable game freezes when approaching an area with NPCs. Usually this clears up after a few seconds, but occasionally this causes a permanent freeze. This is my second run-through of the game and I'm towards the end of the missions. Fast traveling to a location does not seem to cause this problem. I don't recall having had this problem on my first run through. It's either a post-patch problem or an "I play this game way too much :)" problem.

Usually the audio plays out a bit longer, like if 3 Dog is saying something, he'll finish what he's saying then say nothing else. Ambient sound effects continue to play in the background.

If the devs express interest, I will try to save a game immediately before an area that has caused a freeze. This will be tricky as it's an intermittent bug but I'll do what I can to help out.

After Multiple explosions sound clips resulting in loud glitching noises, when reset all returns to normal. This had happened to me in the Wasteland and also a couple of times in the Metro.

Micro Frame Drops followed by long pauses and often freezing in the wasteland, as mentioned usually when Npc`s are near, but not always on screen.

VATS pausing for long periods of time, sometimes rectfying itself but more often than not Freezing resulting in a reset of the console.

I Think its important that everyone lists there individual problems so Bethesda can see thats affecting a large group of people and is not an isolated incident.

1) Big-massive framerate drops in areas with about 5-8 enemies (This in my opinon is the most common and important issue for me)

2) Random Lock-ups (I.e the game will just randomly freeze unexpectadly)

3) Micro stuttering, (I.e Walking around the wasteland and the game will "stop" for about 1-2 seconds)

4) Sound glitches (I.e if a car explodes, or a fire goes off sometimes the audio will "crackle" and the music, radio or non-radio will stop. The only fix for this so far is reloading a save, but I would also like to see this fixed)

EDIT added a new glitch -

5) When I fast traveled in third person my character appeared but he was transparent not full as it should be. It went away after about 10 seconds but this still if pretty freaky and glitchy.

Also Anti-Aliasing support too please!!!

I haven't had nearly as many issues as some, but have experienced three system freezes so far. Now I can't be sure, but almost seems like a memory leak. The game will start to stutter or slow down for a while - than I get the system freeze. Also, would be nice to get AA - but I suppose that's wishful thinking.

I've encountered several problems. I'll list them all in hopes that it sheds some light on the bigger problem. I will put them in order as I encountered them during play sessions. Some are not always present.

Fallen enemies will disappear. When they fall dead, their bodies will just disappear. I have no idea where they go.

While sneaking through the wasteland, I will get a detected or caution sign. That's when I'll stop and look for what is around. Sometimes I will never find anything and just assume they are just spotting me from an elevated position. Once I actually found a radscorpion trapped halfway into the landscape of the waste. Only his stinger and an occasional glimpse of his body as he moved back and forth trapped in the ground.

Stuff off the floor, random debris, will be floating off the ground at about head level.

Enemies will get stuck in strange animation loops. A Murluk looked like it got struck with a beam of light from the sky and started going through every animation frame available to him at a very high rate. I just played that one off as being smited by a diety.

A raider that I hit with a Fat Man flew around in the air until I left the area. He could have stayed there forever, but the game froze on me afterwards.

Stuttering frames and pauses as the game becomes non responsive.

Eventually these things will lead to a complete freeze of the game. I will have to reboot the PS3 to recover.

Once I reload the game once, I returned to complete part of the wasteland survival guide quest. It was the history quest. I completed it fine and got the reward. I then picked up the library quest. When I returned with the library quest complete, the dialog was stuck on the history quest. I said every option but was unable to ever advance the dialog again.

I've created and deleted 6 characters so far. It's the only way I've found to continue playing the game. I'll play one character till it's no longer able to advance in the story then delete it and try to rush to that spot in the story with a new character. I've turned off event notification during play and still encounter these bugs. When I go outside to smoke, I pause the game with the start button and don't spend a lot of time in the pipboy and I try to avoid using the VAT as much as possible. The only time I use the VAT is when being rushed with a melee fighter and then I will do the shotgun blast to the head. It's one of the things in the game that I find extremely enjoyable and will not cut back on.

You've made an enjoyable game. There is so much of the game that I really get into. I played Oblivion on the computer for months. I expected to do the same with Fallout 3. I just can't bring myself to go through Vault 101 one more time. I have not gotten a character to level 20 yet. Normally it will become unplayable before I reach that mark. I suspect that all these little glitches are combining to eat up the cycles of the processor.

I currently have no save files to offer. They have all been deleted out of disgust. I can play through the game one more time and try to get you a really good one if you would like.

Oh, almost forgot the controller 2 problem:

Turn on the PS3 with guitar hero or a USB controller plugged in, start Fallout 3 with the player 2 wireless controller. The title comes up, and you can't use the controller because it's player 2. So you hold the PS button and reassign the controller to be controller 1, and start the game. Usually this results in the anolog triggers not working. For me it's always L2, but I've read here about R2 having this problem. In fact my buddy rented the game and didn't really like it until I told him how to fix this bug -- he had no idea what VATS was up until that point. Now he's having a great time with it.

There are portions of the Wasteland that I simply cannot go to, particularly the south-east corner. Every time I reach a certain point, the game locks up completely, causing me to restart the system by using the power button on the front of the console. I have never explored those parts of the map and never been able to finish any quests that send me in that direction. I have tried new saves, new game data, and a new disc. Nothing helps.

I've stopped playing the game until a new patch is released for fear of destroying my PS3.

As of last night i can't enter Tenpenny Tower anymore. It locks up on the loading screen going in. I tried doing everything-old saves, reinstalling "patch", turning off autosaves, etc., nothing works. I also see some strange things, like some tin cans shooting into the air then coming back through the floor and into air again. That happened with a Deathclaw too. 2 Radscorps were embedded into trees. Minor freezes here and there. But this Tenpenny Tower nonsense is a gamebreaker, all my gear is in there, Dogmeat , Charon, everything. Not fun. So I'll wait til there's a patch (won't hold my breath) and hope i didn't waste 60 bucks.

In addition to the above you can add that if a minigun or gatling laster is being fired by an NPC when you leave an area then the sound effect will constantly replay when you enter the original room again. (100% repeatable at Arlington Library)

Having a follower "wait" in the Taft Tunnels underneath project purity and then finishing the quest causes the NPC to be lost forever.

Finding the Jefferson Memorial (and Dad's holotapes) before handing in the Galaxy News Radio quest causes the trophy for Scientific Pursuits not to be awarded.

Also, 1.10 fixed a couple of infinite item and money exploits, it should be noted that two weren't mentioned.
1: when entering Paradise Falls with "very evil" karma an npc often approaches the player and gives them a random item (similar to the black chick in Megaton if you're good) except unlike the Megaton Settler you can initiate dialogue with the Slaver to get another item, and another.
2: if you hand in scrap metal to the BoS Outcasts in exchange for items you can pick the Outcast's pocket, take back your scrap and hand it in again for more items.

If I think of any more bugs that are repeatable as opposed to random I'll post again.

Darth there is also the repeatable XP glitch on Knick Knack in Little Lamplight. She asks you a joke and the Speech challenge there can be repeated over and over again.

I'm supposed to go to Vault 87 now. I checked the pre-war computer already, afterwhich it told me to go see Rothchild for information on Vault 87. So I go up to him, he's facing a wall in between a locker and a bed, I thought that was kind of weird. So I talked to him, and he says "Follow me, I'll show you what I can about Vault 87." Then... nothing. He just stands there. I tried pushing him out of area he was in by running into him, but even after that he just says follow me and doesn't move. I tried killing him with console and waiting for him to get back up and trying it again, i have also been and done more side missions and hes still in the same place.

Possibly a spoiler!

My ps3 is patched and the disk is clean and free of scratches. At the end of the Big problem in Big Town, after the mutants are killed, the game freezes. It is to the point that I have to hold down the power button. I managed to get around it by running into someones house, but I have a feeling I lost out on items and exp for completing the mission.

Once, I had a total system freeze while entering Oasis my first time. Happened about a week ago. My 80g PS3 is a month old and always kept fully updated. I wasn't downloading anything at the time.

Another one:

There are still robots missing from the Trouble in Big Town Quest. My best success with this so far is a single Sentry Bot but the Protectron wreck that I saw there when first visiting Big Town has slipped into the ether. Result: with only one robot to fix the Super Mutant attack is never triggered and the Big Town threat is never resolved, adding yet another plot hole to the game.

Not so much a bug as an annoyance caused by poor level testing. I have tried in two games now to acquire the "Lucky Shades" item (I'm sure plenty of people here have had the same trouble with them not being there) and in both they weren't where they are supposed to be. A quick google search revealed that I am not the only person having trouble retrieving this particular item and the problem isn't restricted to a particular platform either, although on the PC you could use a console command to acquire the item if it bugs itself out of existence or even use the GECK to move it from the mannequin to one of the shelves to sidestep the problem before it actually happens, as PS3 and 360 users have no way around this (or disappearing NPCs for that matter) having it fixed in a patch would be greatly appreciated.

Off topic slightly -

I wonder if Bethesda are actually aware of this thread and am starting to take action by starting to sort these problems out.

Off topic slightly -

I wonder if Bethesda are actually aware of this thread and am starting to take action by starting to sort these problems out.

Based on the fact that there have been so many posts reporting bugs (the original patch thread had dozens) since the first patch almost two months ago and we still haven't got a confirmation on a patch part 2, I'm going to say that it is highly unlikely, after all there's still some DLC left to make and Bethesda don't get paid for patches. Meanwhile the game is still selling remarkably well on all platforms.

I realise that my opinion on this matter may sound somewhat cynical. GStaff has said in a couple of threads that when he has something to report he will and encourages users to continue reporting bugs, which is certainly a positive thing. However, in the interest of getting a totally neutral and unbiased opinion I have asked my Magic 8 Ball and it had this to say.

Don't count on it

I realise that the Magic 8 Ball is just a dumb toy that I keep by my desk as an amusing way to answer simple questions, but until we get an official answer (and by "official" I mean either a developer interview or a blog post) regarding the possibility of a v1.20 on the PS3 I'm inclined to side with the lump of plastic.

this is my second time through the game.

first time through, not a single problem! leveled all the way to 20, realized that there was something going on when i kept gaining experience points, but no more levels, and then my girlfriend inadvertently deleted all my save games.

second time through, the game is completely unplayable! more on the actual glitches in a sec.

it should be noted that i bought the game quite some time after the release, my ps3 automatically patched the game for me the very first time the disc was inserted.

i have experienced some, if not all of the above mentioned issues, and a couple that were not noted.

1. mini-gun or gatling laser animation works, sound works, but no projectiles are actually fired from the weapon. there's muzzle flash, noise, discharged shell casings flying, ammunition decreased, just no damaged. there is no rhyme or reason to this. seems to have happened the most on the mall during GnR quest

2. big trouble in little town.... all the damaged robots to be repaired were floating above the roof lines of the houses. as i approached the location where they should have been lying about on the ground, they start to move violently around the sky. i sat and laughed at this for a bit, but they never seem to return to the correct position, and i eventually just gave up and left.

3. while using fat man on roaming traders, once i fire the weapon and blow them up, the corpses fly waaaaaaaaaaaay up into the sky (nearly out of sight). i tried chasing them a couple times, usually the bodies land what has to be over a half mile away. once the body hits the ground, it takes off like a hockey puck across a frozen lake!!! this svcks as i wanted to rob the bodies!!!

4. multiple dialogue bugs - too many to even try to list.

5. every time i put something in a locker at my house in megaton, it immediately disappears. doesn't matter which locker i put it in. my house in megaton is a black hole that items never return from.

6. the audio crackeling issues that everyone has mentioned nearly destroyed one of my surround speakers! the cat is still hiding under the bed after that little incident!!!

7. lately, save game loading results in my character standing there punching at thin air. nothing fixes it.

8. multiple random system crashes. i thought at first that this was console temperature related. i went and got one of those intercooler thingies for the console. didn't make a difference. brought home my super fan from work, no difference.

9. and the worst glitch to date: turned on system, went outside to smoke a ciggy, was watching through the sliding door and as the animatic began to backup through the bus, i started getting pure white horizontal lines (like interlacing lines... only they weren't interlacing color). started with a couple, and as the screen kept refreshing, more and more of the screen turned white. audio cracked softly a couple times and quit. the animatic seemed to keep playing at normal speed, but eventually the screen went completely white. i turned off the system and then restarted it, and everything was normal (well, as normal as this game is capable of being, lol).

After patching, my PS3 (60 gig model) these are the issues:

1.) The silenced 10mm pistol disappears from inventory,(either from personal inventory or in Megaton lockers) when loading from saved games. (Often to nearly everytime)

2.) After reaching level 20, but while finishing the last quest, the NPC's will quickly and automatically go through speeches after making the the first choice. Takes about 2-3 seconds. (Everytime)

3.) PipBoy Screen sometimes will be extremely bright green and player cannot see the choices. (Sometimes)

4.) Radio still plays even after it is turned off. (Sometimes)

5.) After becoming a Regulator with lawbringer perk, other Regulator NPC's will flee while you are wearing power armor. (Everytime)

6.) Dogmeat will be trapped in the ceiling in my Megaton house, sometimes can be called and he will come. (Sometimes)

7.) VATS will sometimes lock up the game, especially towards the end of the game. (Sometimes)

This is what I've noticed after completing the game twice. Currently working on the completing the 3rd time.

While in a fight where I was switching weapons quickly, I tried to switch from a deathclaw gauntlet to a frag grenade, and somehow ended up having my weapon be my right fist with a floating grenade attached about an inch above the knuckles. According to my inventory, I was somehow wielding both items at the same time, although the deathclaw gauntlet was no longer visible. Basically I had somehow turned a frag grenade into an unarmed weapon. It was kinda scary because I wasn't sure what was going to happen when I attacked someone (my hope was that each punch would be a grenade explosion, which would be awesome) but I think it was just regular melee attacks. The issue went away as soon as I switched to a third weapon and I haven't been able to repeat it yet, but it was pretty funny.

Another bug that needs to be fixed -

I loaded up a save in Dupont Circle Station and one of the two super mutants (that you can activate the protectron there to try and kill them) started to glitch out. What happened was after closing the door and opening (the mutant died in the doorway) his body stretched out into the door and literally started to breakdance. After opening the door and closing it again the mutant was spinning round in circles while stuck. It was really funny but these physics glitches should be fixed. Obviously this can happen on any enemy in the game, but this where i experienced it.

Experienced my first freeze post 1.10 patch, just before entering Canterbury Commons from the south-east.

It was a random encounter of 2 Yao Guai, 1 Radscorpion and 3 Enclave members (2 with power armour).

What happened is one yao attacked me while the other yao attacked the enclave members, i brought up VATS to target the yao's head and the game freezes before the menu shows.
It took about 2-3 mins of constant PS button hitting to unfreeze the game, then from there on the game began to have frame rate problems.....

Another Problem that I experience is that once I enter Rivet City my game freezes once inside. Also when i pop into Rivet City and immediately leave my game gets stuck in the Loading Screen forever. I have also experienced a game freeze while walking around the edge of the cliffs surrounding Evergreen Mills. And I have experienced the problems listed above. Please I want to play this game but at this moment i have shelved it until a new patch is issued.

After clocking 30 hours so far I haven't run into any major crippling bugs yet,(*crosses fingers* and praying it stays that way) but here's what I've encountered so far:

1. Despite having patched the game(I bought it after the patch was issued) I still had to reload in order to take the g.o.a.t exam and yes I re-installed the patch twice.

2. The no preview haircut glitch (see one)

3. While in the metro with my pip-light on my pip-boy screen was all bright green, I left the screen and re-entered my pip-boy and still was bright green and un-readable(It looked like the background of the pip-boy screen was glowing a bright green light to be specific) but when I turned off my pip-light it went back to normal.

4. on two occassions I became trapped in a invisable wall once while battling a protectortron and I didn't access vats during the fight, and again in minefeild while in the bomb out building where the sniper was located. I had accendently stepped off a edge after looting his corpse I used vats from a distance(outside the building to be precise) to kill him and was trapped mid air like some levitating mime.

5. while leaving super duper mart for the survial guide quest(i was about 8 hours in) the load screen hung for ten minutes, followed by the loading indicator stoping, I then began to power down my system when it at the last second before shut down the game resumed function and it did it a second time on reload but I hit the ps button on my controller instead and it resumed loading.(may not be a big thing or even a slight load problem but thought i should mention it)

6. a few insitances(three or four i.e.: the overseers daughter after the vault door opens for my escspe, mr. burke after alerting sherrif biggs, the doctor in them quest when he asked what perk I wanted) of charecters talking with out their lips moving as though they had finshed speaking there line and waiting for a response, there was no audio problems and I didn't hit any buttons.

7. while around the washington memorial where you come out of the subway to a hord of super mutants while using vats with my rocket launcher the game locked on to air next to the actual target but displayed their health bar but not their limbs(i.e.: head, body, legs, ect.) and yes I had placed the cross hairs on the closest target first, and yes the cross hairs turned red, I was about only a few spaces away more than close enough to see them but far enough not to take splash damage from the explosion.

another small glitch that i forgot to mention:

this happened on the mall during GnR quest, selected rocket launcher in pip-boy. close pip boy. character goes through the motions of pulling out and arming the rocket launcher, but alas, no rocket launcher. all i got was a rocket floating in space (imagine if the rocket launcher was invisible). the rocket was in the correct space. i fired the weapon and the rocket did everything normally. normal damage. during the automatic reload, the character again goes through all the correct motions, but there is still no weapon.

super weird looking, almost amusing, but a glitch that needs attention none the less
