Reputation Setup?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 6:39 pm

Hey everyone,

I did some searching, but I couldn't find anything on this. Do you think the Rep system will stay faction based like NV or go back to a general good/evil swing like FO3?

I don't think I have a preference, but it could change the game dynamic a little.

It will likely be region based like skyrim.

I'm sure it will be very similar to Skyrim. Judging by the screenshots of the Pipboy, it doesn't look like we'll have a general menu section like NV.

I hope it's region based/karma based, I like Reputation but not being able to Equip Khans armor because it made NCR shoot at me was a bummer.

Yeah I totally get you on that one. I'm a fan of the Veteran Ranger Armor, but I was not a fan of being dressed as NCR (Thanks Lonesome Road!). However, I did like getting to know different factions while having different opinions of me.

It's confirmed that we have different factions to work with. Or that we can do it alone. So it's most likely not like in FO3. Bethesda seems to know that in a open world game a 'open' story seems to be better. They want to make a story fitting for a open world game. So a linear story like in FO3 don't make much sense.

Whatever reputation there is, if any, it will probably be faction based.

I highly doubt we'll be able to pick sides with the major factions like in New Vegas however. It's more likely we'll either have to make a binary choice between two factions (A "good" and "bad" option), or we don't get to pick at all like in Fallout 3

It's confirmed, that we can choose between different factions (or make it on our own). And really... I don't think it will be good/evil either. Look at Skyrim. The story wasn't very well... but Skyrim was in no way good vs evil.

Where is this confirmed? All I've seen so far is something mentioning that the player can interact with different factions, not that he can join them or go independent.

Well I never liked the 'Karma' tracking because really no one should know what my Karma (good or bad deeds) is except me. Having a Karma sign floating above my head telling everyone how to treat me is just really dumb IMO. Honestly I might kill a bunch of unarmed slaves but then save a kitten, why should someone on the other side of the game world care?

The sentence was: 'Will you choose to join multiple factions fighting for power, or go it alone?'

I agree, LeBurns. Particularly regarding theft. If I am undetected by anyone and steal something, why should my karma go down? Well, I suppose if Karma is a metaphysical thing it would go down because ~I~ know I did something wrong.... but that should not affect how OTHERS view me. Karma as a concept is fine, but not when any Joe Schmoe can 'see' my karma on my face and react accordingly. The faction thing works better, I think. I just hope they logically separate "good / evil" detection so that I am not flagged as a criminal when NO ONE has seen me steal anything. I also love how, if you ARE caught stealing a can of Nuka-Cola, they somehow immediately know what OTHER items you have stolen and take those back, too. Maybe that was someone ELSE's Green Plate I had stolen! You can't tell it's yours!

I enjoyed the disguise mechanic in FONV, be nice to see that return with some skill in charisma or stealth.

Makes sense that if your wearing an enemy faction clothes, you should get shot at.

Just wonder if if it was implemented what would that mean for armor layers? Just the base clothes underneath affecting it?

Hmmm... Still not sure...

But seeing that we could attach any armor pieces e.g. leather, combat armor plating on base clothing, I think it is more likely that the base clothing will affect, because the logic may go like this e.g. you are an NCR soldier wearing NCR fatigue, and you attach leather armor on top of your uniform. People would still know that you're NCR because you are wearing the uniform beneath the armor

Skyrim was a rebelling province of a long established Empire not a bunch of wildly different survivors of a nuclear war.

The Fallout New Vegas faction reputation makes more sense especially if there are more than two major factions.

I do think Karma still has a use as a general reputation that would have a minor impact on factions that knew you and a greater impact on factions that didn't know you provided they were not isolationist.

Even if you are the golden boy of a faction there are some things that will cross the line with them.

That some thing may be very different between various factions and certainly they would take any rumors from your enemies with a grain of salt.

But if you have enough smoke from enough sources you get the Cosby effect.

With the extensive crafting system, i can't see you not being able to make armor a neutral faction.

The Karma would only make sense if whatever you did to gain/loss karma was actually witnessed by someone who would then tell others about it, including those who are currently doing a 'karma check' on you. Pushing some button that kills some dwellers in a lost vault that only you know about shouldn't be known to anyone, whereas helping them and letting them out into the wasteland some of the survivors may talk about you.

The armor is likely to be faction neutral... I think it's the "undergarment" e.g. military fatigue, vault jumper that determines the faction...

i think top armor should be important ,not the under due to if i wear a giant let say emblem for NCR ,then cover it with leather armor, all guy will see is my pants which do not have the logo,so they think,it is just green pants ,nothin more

the armor on top should yeild the faction stuff

As long as I can wear what I want when I want without being shot at by people I like, I'm good.

If they want to give some sort of faction outfit, a faction "disguise" of some sort would be nice. some single, specific piece of gear, or outfit designed to mark you as a member of a certain faction when worn. (Rings, necklace, headbands etc)

Just please.. not several entire outfits.

I really enjoyed the Rep. system in NV... I do not expect it be in FO4, though. Partially because it looks like Beth is trying to make Fallout more like Skyrim and partially because I don't think Beth will acknowledge that NV every even occurred. For some reason.

In my opinion; I thought NV was better than FO3 in almost every way. NV had better characters, story, almost 3x the amount of quests, more weapons, weapon mods, no black/white main story where you could only join the 'good guys', etc.

People didn't know you were evil by "reading your karma", they knew because they heard about the evil things you did to get that evil karma. They don't know you you killed a few slaves in the middle of nowhere and ate their corpses or that you stole 367 squirrels on a stick, but they know you nuked Megaton and sold Bryan Wilks into slavery.

And even then, if Three Dog said there's a young gal/guy looking for their dad and they're a jerk cause they nuked a city, you can go to say, Rivet City and say you're looking for your father, and no one says "it's that evil teen, kill them" or anything

I hope that faction reputation makes it in but in a much less overbearing manner than in FNV. I really hated the "Don't tread on the bear" thing. As a sneaky player that got [censored] done, it felt really odd that some alleged spy had all the rundown on what I was up to :S
