[REQ} Slower Walking Speed

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 2:54 pm

It has been a while since my PC's level was high enough for his speed to concern me, but it really does not take long. It would be nice if a there were a mod that could, at the touch of a button, force the player to walk at a "normal" or "leisurely" pace, regardless of the PC's speed. It is really annoying to see my dude speed walking through all of the beautified cities, his partner intermittently running and halting as she tries to tag along... The second most annoying feature, after the companion's inability to walk in sync with my PC at his absurd step, is the increased frequency of the footstep sounds. Uhhh...

Modifiers with which to raise or lower the speed would be a luxury, but being able to force a Speed Level 20 or so (just made that up) pace would be appealing...

Edit: ...so this is an animation thing? Why isn't it capped? >:(

Hum. Shouldn't be too hard to get that effect, really. Could even be semi-automated. Apply a Drain Speed 255 ability, and you'll saunter along with a Speed of 0 (which isn't a whole lot slower than 20, really). A Lesser Power can toggle this on and off; and even when it's on, a control script can disable it when you're in combat or running.

Simpler still, and with no scripting required: you could just create that effect on a ring/amulet/whatever, and equip it when you want to go slow.

Really? Maybe I will try that. This little thing is definitely one of my pet Oblivion peeves.

Thanks for the reply!

I've never found walking to be all that fast in fact the opposite for me even at high speed levels.

I've generally avoided major skills that affect speed (and the Steed birthsign) in character creation, as this prolongs the time before a character goes into warp drive. With higher level fighter-types, switching from light to heavy armor delays it still further; but obviously this isn't really a solution for stealth or magic based pc's. I'd love to see a conditional scripted approach to the problem make its way into nGCD :cookie: , if only for immersion's sake ... and the fact that a character who runs too fast not only looks ridiculous but can crash the game.

I have a simmilar question. Is there a mod that slow down the speed of movement (PC and NPC) when you have a weapon drawn? At speed ~90 combat gets very annoying and dodge moves become useless.

My character runs when he wants to move quickly. He would rather walk in sync with his companion in the BC-beautified cities...no rush...

I completely agree with the "looks ridiculous" bit. The speed walking thing totally killed my trial with Slof's Manly Walk, in appearance and sound.

There is a mod called Bullet Time, which creates a slow motion effect when power attacking or something, but I do not know of a mod that simply caps speed conditionally.

Just adding my voice here... I've actually asked about this before on another forum. I didn't request a mod but I did ask if there were a way to slow down the walking. Reason being, for over a year I played Oblivion on PS3 where you can adjust your movement speed depending on how far you push the joystick. I always kept it just barely touched, so my character would walk very slowly and I could admire the landscape. And that was just vanilla -- on PC with all my mods the landscape and cities are a million times more worth looking at. Unfortunately there only seem to be two speeds; fast and way too fast. :( And that's at first level when my Speed attribute is hideously low. If it gets worse from this point on I'm definitely going to do some console cheating to keep my speed down. I would LOVE a mod to adjust it.

Sauntering around at speed 0 sounds nice enough, haha. I guess I could quickly create a new amulet to try out the effect. I think my walking speed tolerance limit is 25, seriously...

...a way to slow down the walking. ..

I made a mod to slow down the base running/walking spreed of the game awhile back: http://morrowind4kids.com/pseronwyrd/PWRunSpeed.zip It affects both the player character and NPC/Monsters.

I use it with another mod I made, one that decreases fog settings drastically, making Cyrodiil feel like a much larger and more mysterious place to explore (and making it much, much more attractive too, in my opinion).

Almost entirely unrelated, but I have to say: Pseron Wyrd, your Morrowind Fog mod is perfectly awesome. I recently tried another fog setting mod, and while I definitely liked it, I'm back to using yours. Your fog settings are just too beautifully atmospheric for me to let go of. I tweaked the color values of the default weathers in your esp for added atmosphere (and for my own TES4Editing practice), and added in 50% darker nights, for a nice "simple" atmosphere boost in a tiny esp. Your fog mod provided the backbone for that. Thank you!

Which fog mod is that?

 This is probably why my walk speed seems slow enough already lol I was using this the whole time. Can you link to your morrowind fog mod? I seem to have misplaced my copy and I can't find it anywhere.

Can it be configured to only affect running speed?

Not exactly sure if this is what you're looking for, but if you look at my signature link there is mod called Doc Dodge that can help you dodge stuff, assuming you invested points in speed and acrobatics.

Also, you can edit the game setting FMoveEncumEffect.

I have same problem, Tommie.
Several times i have requested something that allows you to press a button and reduce your PC's walking speed down to what you consider 'not-in-a-hurry'. No responce.
Several times I requested button to allow you to increase or decrease the hight of your jumps according to your needs at the moment depending on situation. No responce

If your character is female you can use one of the female walks - Umpa's; Corean Walk for Umpa; Mur Zik.
I have created BAIN package with 7 different female walks, all compatible with myfavorite DMC Stylish. At the moment am with Real Walk 25% faster and it suits me - gives opportunity to walk instead to quickly transfer yourself

What bothers me is jumping - when the stats were low jumping seemed natural and an effort.

If my character jumps now he always overshoots what he is trying to land on.

Basically with stats around 60-70 he feels superhuman (I guess he is).

hmm you know someone sent me a jumping mod once and I can't think of who it was now. Need to go look that up.

I forgot about the jumping thing. I have not played a profile long enough to reach one of the annoying levels in a while...

There is http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20091 that adds the capability to vary your jumps. I have had it working in my earlier installs but right now (lv 1) I can't seem to get it working on my new install even when loading dead last. But it should work...

I want to try the lesser power method. Is there a good candidate for one I could easily find and modify?

The toggleable Khajiit night-eye mod should be just about perfect. You'll just need to remove the "khajiit" condition, and change the associated ability from night-eye to drain speed.
