A request and recommendation from a long-time customer and f

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 7:03 pm

I want to preface this thread by saying that other than a single instance of the game-freezing and the tendency for my gun to "pop" up occasionally while I'm in stealth mode, my experience with NV has been bug free.

That being said...

Obviously the bugs in this game are rampant. Like I said above, I can't say I have personally experienced them, but I don't doubt others have. Every other thread is about either someone's game locking up, saves being corrupted, items being un-droppable (sp?), etc, etc. In addition, the mention of bugs is prevalent in every single review of the game. Now, to be fair, you have finally come out and announced that there is a comprehensive patch on the way. Bravo! However, this patch still ignores the overall fact that you should not have released this game to the market in the state it was in.

So, Obsidian (and Bethesda), I come at you with the following recommendation; and I hope you take what I say to heart.

On May 18th, 2010, Rockstar released Red Dead Redemption to the public. The single player was fantastic, and earned accolades all over the world. Multiplayer, however, was a bug-addled disaster. It was nearly unplayable for three weeks, until Rockstar was finally able to patch it.

On June 22nd, 2010, Rockstar released the previously planned "Outlaws to the End" DLC. For free. Did Rockstar have to do this? Of course not. The multi-player issues had already been fixed via patch. And the loss of revenue they may have incurred (likely very little) due to returns of the game or people holding off on buying it due to negative word-of-mouth from friends would have almost certainly been made up many times over by charging for the DLC. In addition, even though the Rockstar message boards were alive with screams of "I'LL NEVER PLAY A ROCKSTAR GAME AGAIN!", all of those fans kept playing and surely will keep buying Rockstar games.

So then, why did Rockstar offer the download for free? They did it to say "I'm sorry" to all of their fans that they had disappointed with the initial release.

There you go guys. Give us something other than the patch as an "I'm sorry." I think we (the fans) deserve it. Many of us have been with you (both companies!) for YEARS. Hell, I started with Arena back in the day, and I honestly can't tell you how long before that I was playing Black Isle games.

So please guys, don't make us think you are taking us for granted. Give us something. It doesn't have to be huge, but it should be SOMETHING.

Anyway, I know this will probably fall on deaf ears. But I've been stewing over this thought for awhile and I think it would be the best move for everyone involved. It would make the fans happy, show them you care, and give you (as a company) a level of class and distinction that many others lack.

Don't let us down guys.

That's only one of them. There have been at least three that I've seen. :P

Well, whatever. I wasn't going to sift through all the threads looking for something similar. My opinion is unchanged however.

tl;dr: "I haven't had any problems with the game, but I demand free stuff as compensation for the problems that I've read about!"

Not happening. In Rstars case, the multiplayer did not work well for ANYONE. Now, if Fallout New Vegas had a HUGE problem that affected everyone than sure, free dlc, but not everyone, heck, only a tiny majority had huge problems.

While I haven't had any major bugs outside of a couple of minor glitched quests (PC version), I don't disagree that it might help their image with some people a little bit. The bulk of the damage is done, though. All of the reviewers that docked points for bugs aren't going to go back and change their reviews because a free DLC came out.

I'm still waiting for my free gas from BP, though. :D

I kind of got the same idea.

In all honest though, like said previously RDR was messed up for a massive majority of people. I will not say all because that's 100% and there are always exceptions. I may get attacked for this, but I really doubt a majority of people are having serious issues with NV.

I would be happy if the issue got fixed in a fairly timely manner and I have no need for free DLC, it would be nice, but I'd rather have them plug along solving issues.

I enjoy dlc and it would make me hate Obsidian a little less. :D

Same here. I've had no shortage of CTDs, but in all honesty I've never failed to get those from any game built on Gamebryo or its ancestors as far back as Morrowind. Just like with all the previous games, some days I can play 8 hours straight with nary a hitch, and sometimes I get 5-10 CTDs in the span of an hour.

At least this one had its amusing twist compared to all the other "you owe us free DLC" threads: first one I've seen demanding freebies for not having problems.

You know that Bethesda managed QA and had control of the release date for NV, right?

Keep dreaming it's a rare thing that a game company would do such a thing.

Id hardly say it was a tiny majority of people who are having problems.
Ive had my xbox since day one and ive never had to do some of the things to play a half way decent game of fnv before for other games.(clear memory cache, clear game data cache every session)

Yeah, but anecdotal evidence is anecdotal. I can say I've hardly had any problems, but that doesn't prove that other people aren't.
