If Bethesda don't patch it in, the tracking of all neutral/friendly npc's that was in FO3 and NV via the compass. Currently its only hostiles but I really want that feature back, especially when trying to find my lazy settlement workers or my companion.

I'm ok with neutral and friendly tracking. I just don't want it tracking unaware hostiles because it makes stealth too easy knowing exactly where an enemy is before agro'ing them.

I can' help with modding the compass to do that, but I can give you some advice I read in a tips thread.

Dress your assigned settlers alike. Assign each job type a specific uniform (e.g. merchants in business suits). That way, when you see a settler not wearing their assigned clothes, you know they are new and need to be assigned a job.

Edit:
According to what I just read in another thread, you can create a bell tower to summon all of your settlers to one spot.
