Request for dialogue

Here you go.

1. My grandfather used to work as a miner, back in the day. It was his honest work that put food on our family's table, Father used to say.
2. I was too young to remember the day he was killed in a goblin attack on the mine. I would cherish something to remember him by.
3. Grandfather's Pickaxe
4. was crafted by his own hand.
5. My father's gone now, and I don't know which mine it was anymore.
6. Praise The Nine! Look, you see his engraving on the handle? And the balance... Thank you so much, I am in your debt.

1. My birthday is coming up, and I was thinking I'd have something special to celebrate.
2. I remember finding a bottle of exquisite old wine in a fort, back when my arms were stronger. There has to be more somewhere.
3. Aged Wine
4. from before Surilie and Tamika.
5. I couldn't tell you for sure, but I can suggest a few places to start you on your search.
6. Ah, this will be a special birthday indeed! Thank you, friend!

1. I'm working on a new outfit design that is sure set the start to an age of style.
2. The Ayleids had a knack for decoration, and I plan to take advantage of that. You are to search for something.
3. A bolt of silk
4. from the time of the Ayleids.
5. I will reward you handsomely, of course. Look in their ruins.
6. Marvellous! My new design will be like nothing they've ever seen before.

1. Long story short, I was outside the town walls at night when a werewolf attacked me. I had a hard fight right there and managed to stab it.
2. But the damned thing must have felt his end approaching and he ran off with my blade stuck in its chest.
3. A Decorated Dagger
4. with a ruby fixed in the handle. I had it for ages.
5. I'm not sure what to say, it couldn't have gone far. Must have crawled somewhere and died.
6. Thank you! You've done me a kindness.

1. I've had some problems with robbers in the past and I decided to have a stash of Septims somewhere safe, for emergencies.
2. Business hasn't been so good of late, and I find myself in need of that garner.
3. A bag of coins
4. quite plain looking, mind you.
5. The thing is, I moved it around so much that I can't remember where I left it last time.
6. Good, good. This should see me through these dark times. Grace be upon you!

1. One of the guards has been, well, abusing my hospitality. I shan't give names, it's much too dangerous. But I can't take it anymore.
2. I know no one would believe me, so I have to make my own justice. I have arranged for a delivery.
3. A poison
4. that should end this nightmare.
5. The one I arranged this with was to leave it in one of three locations, the one he deemed safest.
6. Thank you, thank you ever so much. Please believe me, if there were any other way, I would have chosen it. Go now, and pray speak of this no more.

Cheers!

Hmm, now I see the format a little better... are you interested in stuff tailored for a specific merchant?

For http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:M%27raaj-Dar:
1: I've got a problem with a non-delivery, maybe you can go find it? And never come back?
2: I was asked to get something suitable for a troublesome orc that doesn't like apples.
3: I arranged for some poisoned venison to come in from Skyrim.
4: I guess the courier is more of an idiot than you, as he never got here.
5: You might try scouting out north of here
6: By Sithis! You came back. Damn, I hoped you'd get lost in one of those holes.

For http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Fathis_Ules (or another fence):
1: There's an item I need retrieved, and not in the usual way. Are you interested?
2: A guardsman in Anvil got a few people in trouble a few days ago.
3: We made an "alternative" document to swap for the guard's written testimony.
4: But when our courier was camping out waiting to get into the castle, he got ambushed.
5: The sealed document should be in one of the ruins just east of Anvil.
6: Good work. I just have time to arrange for this to get where it needs to be.

Hey Vac!

A few notes on the formatting. It took me a while to get it straight too.

I see now that I needed to give a few more details. Before the dialogue you control, the merchant will say (randomly picked) one of:
Would you consider helping me with a problem?
Maybe you can help me with a problem?
I am looking for someone who can help me.
Do you think you could help me with something?

After line 5. he/she will say:
Probably in xxx, yyy or zzz (where xxx, yyy or zzz are the names of the paces to look for it - which must be interiors, thus sewers are fine)
And then finish off with:
Will you help me?

Lines #3 and #4 must follow two strict rules:

1. They must be able to be combined into one line.
2. The merchant must be able to say things like "Have you found the #3 yet?" or "I appreciate you're looking for #3".

If I change my first example there with:

1. I was out yesterday, gathering some herbs for my experiments.
2. As I tend to get quite absent minded sometimes, some robbers got the jump on me. They stole
3. the amulet from my mother.
4. and they would have killed me too, had I not saved myself with an invisibility potion and fled to town.
5. The rabble must have a camp nearby.
6. Oh, bless you! I shan't forget this kindness!

would that work? If I'm still missing something, feel free to edit this same example and I'll figure out the rest of them.

You'll have to make it so that it makes sense to split it up there. 1 and 2 is sort of introduction, 3 and 4 description of the item and 5 description of where it can be found.

It still has to be reformatted and shortened a bit, to something like:

1. I was out yesterday, gathering some herbs for my experiments when some robbers got the jump on me.
2. I saved myself with an invisibility potion and fled to town, but they stole something.
3. the amulet from my mother.
4. [See below]
5. The rabble must have a camp nearby.
6. Oh, bless you! I shan't forget this kindness!

For #4 one could either split up #3 into "The amulet" and "from my mother", or add something like "that I always carry with me".

Did it get clearer now?

So, for yours, you'd need to rework #3 so it was just the item that is being sought. Ending #2 with something like I arranged for a special package from Skyrim and making #3 like Some poisoned venison might do it.
I'm not sure if #4 would work in the current format, you'd have to ask TheNiceOne about that.

I liked the imp one too, so if you're going to rewrite it, it should be fun.

As for having quests tailored to specific guilds, it might be a nice addition without having to go through too much trouble to implement it.

Cheers!

Hmm, now I see the format a little better... are you interested in stuff tailored for a specific merchant?
I'm happy for stuff tailored for specific merchants' but want them to be "normal" merchants, available to barter with without doing any of the guild quests. The reason for this is that I group the quests into one main quest for each city (and possibly one misc quest). Now, I could of course add those two to a special quests, so maybe, if I have any places left over :)

But as crimson.cosmos wrote, line 3 and 4 must be even stricter formatted. They will be spoken as one line in some cases, but line 3 will also be spoken as "Have you found the #3 yet" or similar. So it must be a short description / name of the item. Or, there is actually a tiny bit more freedom. Line 3 will be split in two, where only the second part is put inside other sentences. E.g. rewriting your first to something like:

1: I've got a problem with a non-delivery, maybe you can go find it? And never come back?
2: I was asked to get something suitable for a troublesome orc that doesn't like apples, but the courier is more of an idiot than you, as he never got here
3: It was some|poisoned venison
4: to come in from Skyrim.
5: You might try scouting out north of here
6: By Sithis! You came back. Damn, I hoped you'd get lost in one of those holes.

Note the "|" in line 3. only the part after will be combined into things like "Have you found the poisoned venison yet?"

I see that it is a bit complicated, but you don't have to be exact, as I can reformat it a bit like the above - so everyone please give me more dialogue :)

Didn't see anything for Rindir, so I figured why not.

1: Yes, yes, welcome and all that, but I'm afraid I'm too bothered to help you right now.
2: If you really must know, I was expecting a delivery today, and, of course, it has yet to show. VERY expensive.
3: It was a very fine, oaken wood | staff.
4: coming in from the Black Marsh.
5: The Argonian merchant said he'd be in a cave to the north. Guess he likes dank places. Now buy something or leave.
6: By the Nine, the staff! I can't even remember telling you about it! Here, take this.

Hmm... let me try :)

I imagine these lines here are spoken by a male Dunmer

1. You see, I have this particular ring, a heirloom adorned with beautiful gems. It is my pride and honor, given to me by my father, a brave Dark Elf warrior
2. And some petty crooks stole it! A heirloom! Well, it just confirms it is so valuable isn't it? I mean, no thief will steal a worthless item!
3. Like I told you, [my ring] is adorned with beautiful gems
4. It is so beautiful you can practically fall in love with it!
5. I saw that ring in the hands of some thieves camping southwest of here. I can't fight a bunch of armed criminals! So I have to look away. But you, you can fight them!
6. Ah! My beautiful ring! Thank you, now I can face my ancestors with honor. You've done well, take this here. I insist, and thank you again

the last line is a bit boring I think... but for now I can't think of something better

Thanks for the dialogues, but I need more :)

You don't have to be too concerned about the exact format either. I will very much rather see 10 dialogues that I need to reformat a little bit, than 2 perfectly formatted, so just let your creative juice be flowing and create a couple of dialogues.

Please :)

Thanks for the dialogues, but I need more :)

OK, are you wanting dialogues tailored for any of the innkeepers? Or just the regular shop-type merchants?

Vac

Edit: And the DLC-added merchants? You know, Aurelinwae and suchlike.

Edit2: Did I get the format better this time?

Norbert Lelles:
1: A couple of sailors started a ruckus in here a couple of days back. In the confusion someone took off with a valuable item I was keeping.
2: The buyer was offering a very reasonable price.
3: An antique silver bowl
4: from Cybiades.
5: The guards say the villain belongs to one of the local Marauder gangs, but they won't leave the town walls these days.
6: That's wonderful! I was getting anxious I'd have to let my customer down.

Edit3: I need a break. This is actually quite tiring...

Daenlin:
1: My friend's husband died some time back, in one of the nearby monster lairs.
2: She needs to get part of his corpse for, you know, ritual "disposal".
3: An arm
4: would suffice, I suppose.
5: At this point it's the symbol that's most important as we'll never get the whole body back.
6: That's great, it's nice to see some people willing to help some bosmer in need.

Fjotried:
1: My brother sent me a family heirloom a few days ago from Skyrim.
2: It's worthless to anyone else, I'd guess, but it means a good deal to me.
3: My great-grandfather's smithying-tongs
4: rusted with his own sweat.
5: The courier was found dead on the road near Dragonclaw Rock. Everything was gone.
6: Ahh, the tongs! I thought I'd never see them again! You've done a fine thing today, friend.

Olfand:
1: My wife and I were having a bit of a drink up last Loredas.
2: For some reason, she took it in her mind to go dancing off down the Silver Road. When she woke up, she was missing something.
3: Her best vest.
4: I don't want anyone else touching it.
5: I have no idea where it's gone. Maybe I don't want to, but I want it back.
6: Ahh! By the Jeralls! That's the top half found at least!

Tertia Viducia:
1: I heard a patron of the bridge inn talking about something unusual they saw in a local mine.
2: If I'm right about what they were talking about it's very special and unusual.
3: A mithril nugget.
4: That's very hard to find in Cyrodiil.
5: The patron was well in his cups, and couldn't remember which mine it was, but I'm sure he was describing mithril.
6: By the nines! I was right! I can't believe you really found this nearby.

Claudette Perrick
1: A student from the University was by here earlier asking for an unusual ingredient I don't usually stock.
2: I don't have any regular suppliers for this stuff, but the customer said they need it as soon as possible.
3: Ogre nails
4: are what I need.
5: I guess you can get some from someplace nearby, just look around.
6: I suppose this will do. Couldn't you have brought back a fresher sample?

Ogier Georick
1: I've been doing a little alchemy practice again myself recently, and found I needed something a little unusual for my potion.
2: Well, I have some, or at least I thought I did, but it turns out my stash has gone a little green and slimy.
3: Some dreugh spleen
4: , as fresh as possible
5: I don't rightly know where you're going to find that stuff, I'm a merchant, but I guess there must be some nearby.
6: Now that's some fine quality dreugh spleen. I could almost believe you squeezed it out just outside the shop door.

Thanks. I have enough now :)

I have already created quests for some of the merchants you created dialogue for, but I'll see if I can switch them around a bit.

OK, if you need more, just resurrect the topic or something. I've got some ideas for some other merchants too.
