A Request for Help - A Single Missing Texure

Post » Sun Nov 27, 2016 9:09 am

Greetings. I am hoping I can get some assistance correcting/diagnosing an small issue I have with Skyrim Special Edition. I am not a modder, but I am a serious end user of these fantastic creations.

When I am in Whiterun and I enter Warmaiden's, the chimney does not have it's texture and I get the purple blob of doom. The number that comes up when I go to console and click on this area is 000617cd.

I have definitely had mods that could have touched this - JK's Whiterun and Noble Skyrim - these were installed with Nexus Mod Manager and have since been completely removed.

Specific question - is there something I can delete and then simply do a Steam "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" that will reload this texture?

Here are some pics.

Any assistance that might be offered would be greatly appreciated. Thank you to any who respond.

Just a shot in the dark:

Have a look at your data folder and search in meshes\Architecture\WhiteRun\WRInteriors\

for the file WRIntWallStrChimney01.nif

Is it there? If yes, rename it, for instance to 00WRIntWallStrChimney01.nif and test if the texture shows now. In this case the modified nif was not uninstalled which points to a no longer existent custom texture.

Strangely enough, however, the normal map apparently is still displayed... but this mesh normally uses the WRCityWall01.dds texture, so if the city walls are not purple, then it may well be an issue with a leftover mesh from a mod. Though the normal map looks like the vanilla one...

Edit: I just looked at the version of this mesh from the Unofficial Legendary Patch, and the texture has an absolute path specified instead of the relative one! It says "e:\elder scrolls\skyrim files\textures\architecture\whiterun\wrcitywall01.dds" but should just say "textures\architecture\...".

The same goes for the texture of the wooden board above the fireplace. Probably an error on their part. This does not cause any issues for me, though, but it might explain yours. I am going to report that to them right away.

First, thank you both for your replies.

-Tamira- - I actually do not have an \Architecture folder in my \Meshes folder. Is there someplace else I might find it?

Pherim - So, should I wait for an update to USLEEP? As I recall this issue just appeared in the time frame coinciding with the new USLEEP update. I guess I could disable it and check the results. I will report back.

There were 2 meshes in USSEP that suddenly became an issue and a hotfix to patch 4.0.4 is now up (4.0.4a).

Well, according to the USLEEP changelog, this mesh was changed a long time ago, when there were still separate patches for Skyrim and the DLCs, so I doubt a recent USLEEP update could have caused this.

I see. This may well have been one of them. Then the issue apparently is only happening with the SE. As this does not happen in the old Skyrim I guess there was no need to update USLEEP.

Thank you for all your help. I updated/re-installed several mods and installed the newest version of USLEEP and somewhere in there this issue was corrected. I certainly appreciate the assistance. Thanks again.

No, thank you! Because of this topic I noticed a large number of things that are wrong with this mesh (the vanilla version, not the USLEEP/USSEP one) which I am now attempting to fix. In fact I already fixed most of them. ;) When I'm finished I'll give it to the UOP team to include it in USLEEP/USSEP, if they like it.

On the other hand, many other meshes have similar issues, and I am certainly not going to fix them! :D
