Request for Immersive Character Customization

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 11:35 am

Bethesda,

I watched the Tod Howard narrated character creation video and saw an option to select body. I assume this will end up similar to Skyrim where we have sliders to make ourselves tall/short, skinny/fat, lean/muscled.

Please don't do that!

I would much prefer to see a dynamic in-game system where our body appearance reflected our SPECIAL stats.

I seems counter intuitive that I could create a character that appeared strong and then I gave him Strength of 3 or lower.

I am thinking physical appearance in game should be tied to S, E, and A. If those change in game so should the appearance.

Off topic, but I would also love to see a hard core mode. Eat/Drink/Sleep. I know there will be a mod for it, but It would be better if there were indicators on the PIPBOY.

Thanks!

Then don't do it: I'm not seeing a problem here.

Personally never liked the idea of tieing apperance to stats, feels restrictive of my creativity.

Of course by now all we can do is wait and see, as far as 4 is concerned at least.

Ew, no thank you. I'd rather not be stuck picking my stats certain ways (and be locked out of various character builds) just to get the appearance I'd prefer.

(oh, and: having your chosen appearance get messed up during play, due to stat alterations? Is a terrible, terrible feature. I remember people being really annoyed by Fable 2 because of that.)

...also. The general overuse (on forums, on the Nexus, etc) of the word "immersive" makes me want to :wallbash:

That's a shame. Hopefully the controls they give us will still let people accurately choose things, instead of just having to "wing" it.

Have you seen a game that has done this? Please share. I would like to check it out.

Definitely not wanting to restrict anyone's creativity. It can easily be optional. The way I see it, my characters always evolve. Who they are after a few years in the wasteland is not the same person who just stepped out of the vault. I think it would be awesome to see an out of shape vault dweller slowly transform into the bad-ass.

Yes I do remember him saying that, interesting. I wonder how the "Body" part of the creator will work if it doesn't have a slider.

I click on the nose. I move the mouse to the right and the nose gets bigger. I move the mouse to the left and it gets smaller. Its not a slider. Honest!

This, only attribute who could really be shown would be high strength. Skinny / fat would be too stupid.

As for slider, yes that is an issue, remember taking screenshots of my sliders in ESO during beta so I could create an character fast after launch.

Hopefully we get an store preset function to store our character as an preset so we can tweak later.

It's not like SPECIAL would be a very accurate determiner of body weight/size anyway. Strength can be represented in many ways - some people are bulky/stocky, some are wiry (skinny), and some are fat. Furthermore, not all agile people are short and/or skinny.

Ok I remember that Fable game. That did svck the way they did it. I was imagining something more subtle, but your point is well taken.

Your angst on my choice of words could also be an issue with you overexposing yourself to those media.

Case in point, Bruce Lee was a very small man, but he had immense strength in that very toned little body. He could knock a man cold with his fist starting, what was it, two inches away from the opponents face?

Bruce Lee was not "strong", he had the Slayer perk.

Dear Brokenhearted,

These considerations should have been voiced 4 years ago when the game was in the early stages of development.

You are, however, in luck. If you wait several months after the game is initially released, the Creation Kit will be made available for everyone that thinks the game broken and unplayable in its initial vanilla release state, and you, or someone else can mod the game to the specifications of most of your desires.

It might be suggested that such a letter might have better impact if forwarded for Fallout 5, or Elder Scrolls VI.

Somewhere around here there's links to forums where that would be appropriate.

Otherwise, just wait for the modding community to get their hands on the Creation Kit.

How many threads like this that can be answered by "Just wait for the mods" are there going to be anyway?

:)

I wouldn't like that at all.

You are free to design your character to look however you want.

A shame they keep development such a closely guarded secret. I never understood the point of that. FO4 was only announced a few weeks ago at E3.

How many? Almost all of them would be my guess.

The idea was neat in Fable, but it wore off quickly. I don't like seeing this reflection of body size based on stats.

All it takes is some common sense. Fallout 3 came out. Bethesda owns the rights. It was a big success. Makes sense there will be a Fallout 4, especially considering the already established pattern Bethesda has with the Elder Scrolls series.

You don't need a "dev announcement".

If you want some certain features in a game, like Fallout 5, or Elder Scrolls VI, it would make sense to start writing those "Dear Bethesda" letters about those future titles right now. Writing "Dear Bethesda" letters about a project that's basically already done except for fine tuning, quality control, and and final crash testing before it goes to factory to image all those Disks, print inserts, print boxes, and ship to retailers.

The game hits the streets only 4 months from now. There's not likely going to be any new content or big changes at this point. The game is probably quite done and finished at this point.

What games CAN be changed and maybe effected by "Dear Bethesda" letters?

Fallout 5, and Elder Scrolls VI.

Bethesda,

I would ask you to consider my suggestion for Fallout 5, or 6. However, the many naysayers have swayed my opinion. Fable did a horrible job implementing this, so surely you will too.

I am now in favor of being locked in to a static look which I select at the start of the game and does not change with my character progression. Also please have us pre-select a static graphical representation for "weapon" and "armor" which does not change regardless of what we equip.

Thank you!

Bethesda,

Lots of people have been typing requests to you and they really read like they are praying to you in the false hope that at this point when the game is 99 percent done that they can change things in the character creation process and the game itself. Personally I worry for these people and hope they get the help they need.

Am looking forward to playing this and have requested a whole week off work to get the party started.

Yours,

Gary
