I think it's broad and specific enough to be its own topic if it serves as an all-purpose followers topic.

Personally, I'd like Fallout 3/New Vegas style companions - if you can't have two human(oids), then one person and one pet would be good.

Specifically, I'd like a companion like Emma's Vilja mod, since I've just tried the version where she actually walks alongside the player rather than trailing several paces behind, and that's great fun. OK, so I accept that 4000 lines of dialogue per character isn't realistic to ask for. ;)

Modders have gotten multiple companions to work, and it's usually balanced, so I see no reason why they can't do it for Skyrim. Would be kind of cool to have a traveling party.

this would be excellent, allows me to shamelessly focus my char onto one type and have a companion fill that gap, and should he/she/it/they/somthing/void die then I would happily wallow in the world of oh [censored] I am about to get myself into.

I think followers in oblivion were creepy.

They follow you about 3 feet away, stare intently into the back of your head at all times, and rarely say anything. Fallout 3 got it a little better, and New Vegas got it a lot better, but it's still a little weird.

Mass Effect has good companion behavior, where it actually seems like they are with you instead of just a creepy unwanted stalker you can't get away from.

My approach:
* You have two additional "slots" that you can have followers or mount & cart in. Forces us to choose what "good" we want based on playstyle, and "works" with a fixed screen space estate.
* You can assign followers that will show up in these slots, and will have the same bars as you - health, mana, fatigue.
* You can assign a mount (horse, mule etc) to the left slot, but it will have health and speed shown as bars.
* You can assign a cart or wagon to the right slot, but it will have health and available storage space shown as bars.
* You can have saddle and saddlebags for some carrying capability by the mount, or double saddles for a mount and a follower.
* A cart obviously allows you to carry a lot more than you should be able to carry on your body.
* A wagon enables you to act as a taxi service for multiple people, but also improves outside camping.

Weights (both on you, mount, and cart) affects speed, depending on various factors. I'm not a great fan of followers myself though.

Just my two cents...

Not a fan of more than 2-3 companions, I don't want a mercenary army

I can live with New Vegas's stlye of companions (if they have the great VA's amd back stories that is)

Off topic: I must hug that bunny. Its too adorable. :twirl:

Erk! :embarrass:

:)

@Hoblak I'd be worried about my whole screen ending up filled with bars!

With the "slots" thing, you could have it like Mass Effect or Dragon Age, where you could recruit a larger party but only actually take 2 companions with you at a time. I thought that worked well.
