Request To Make Forums Subscribers only

Post » Wed Mar 19, 2014 4:55 am

Hear Hear, before anyone says "What if i want to learn about the game by asking questions and I can't post" I think the best solution for ESO forums is to be subscribers only, Although at the same time letting those who are not subscribed to the game VIEW the forums but not post there is also a search function and other reviews who-would-be from subscribers.. This way it keeps out the naysayers and trolls.. Upon release/launch of course..

I can not find fault with that. I agree.

Some people will be against it, but I think its perfectly fine since it will keep most trolls (not all), and the random f2p doomsayers and haters away from the live forums. So I agree on that.

Tons of trolls, which puzzles me cause of all the places there is to troll, they choose to troll here. Life on their ends must be really bland.

Here-here for subscribers only!

There is already a tie in to the forums and your game account, which is why these forums are going away. I do hope there is a restriction to the new forums to only people who are subscribed to the game.

However, what about people who may want to suspend their subscription for a few months? They may want to keep up with Guild Mates or something. And, there does need to be public access at least for Reading and Searching.

I also agree, as for people suspending their subs (for whatever reason) they should be able to read and search but if they want to keep in touch with their Guild, don't most guilds have their own sites and guild forums anyways?

Agreed. The only people who would have a problem with this are those who don't intend to play the game.

Isn't that what guild forums are for?? I haven't been in a guild since Vanilla EQ that didn't have at least a basic forum.

I'd agree that everyone needs to have access, but only subscribers should have posting rights.

First off, I agree.

BUT . . . I've seen more than my fair share of naysayers state that they pre-ordered the game and are going to play. So it really won't affect the naysayers as much as you think.

Or have a general section within the forums for people who want to ask questions etc but lock the rest of the forums for non subscribers so they can't post but let them read and search, doesn't sound that difficult to me.

There should be Account status, such as subscriber etc, All they would need to do is make a "former subscriber" status and let them have access. People who purchased the game should be allowed access really.

I love this idea. Have a general forum for those who do NOT subscribe if you wish, but there should be a paying customer ONLY forum.

It seems like the official forums will have that, since we definitely needed a beta account to have access to the beta forums.

Think that is the way most sub-based MMO's are. The only ones that tend to let anybody in are the F2P garbage MMO's

One problem, I've been interested in games and gone to find out more about them only to find I couldn't ask any questions about it in the forums.

Sometimes someone else has already asked but usually not...

So due to lack of info I never bought them.

ESO will be different because I've been following the development since announcement... and... i...already pre-ordered haha

@nerevanrine1138 That is a good point, I think that is why I prefer the beta forums over this one but even then there are a lot of people with beta keys that have no intention of buying the game. I really hope they go with this suggestion. (And I can't seem to be able to spell today :D)

I don't suppport. I agree that the forum shouldn't be public (except for reading), but just owning the game should be enough to allow posting.

Nope.

Plenty of people own MMOs and then stop playing them. They should not be able to post on forums where others are discussing the current build of a game.

Good idea that way people who dont subscribe can see how fast the forums lose posters and anticipate how long it will be before free to play hits.

But kidding aside I am not going to buy thegame, but I also dont have a problem with forums being tied to subscription accounts. What can people say that arent playing the game? Other than coat tailing the people who ARE playing and paying for the game. The subscribers will post more than enough critical comments and posts having people who dont play the game wont be necessary. Once it goes free to play then we can all come in with our "I told you so" posts.

So yes keeping forums subscriber only will also keep the 'youre a troll who doesnt even play the game' comments out of the debates as well. I also doubt anyone will pay 15 bucks a month just to troll the forums.

The flaw to this is that some will buy the game and rage quit/stop playing for whatever reason, then they will continue to prowl the game forums adding negative comments or wrong advise base on what they knew and not what the current state of the game will be. This alone doesn't add anything to the post but eventually ends in trolling and hate post. If you don't currently play, why should you be able to post about current game play? They need to lock down the forums to pay users only and be done with it.

I disagree. There would be people who did not subscribe and do nothing but troll and [censored]post endlessly. At least if they subscribe, they paid for that privilege.
