Requesting the use of tanks, attack vehicles, etc in Brink

Post » Thu Oct 22, 2009 5:02 am

No, he means drive able, maybe in the future either in DLC or Brink two if they move to medium length combat vehicles would be feasible. But in case you havent played or extensively studied gameplay there are only a handful of maps I can see vehicles BESIDES motorcycles/motorbikes
1. Getting insane amounts of splatter/ run over kills
2. Getting destroyed/blown up in seconds, causing even more kills and knock downs due to splash damage.
3. Just Fitting in the tight corridors of the map
In the current situation some vehicles may not be able to leave current spawns or go in certain corridors, this leaves the player driving donuts on the only opencsh part of the map, the objective.

nice sum up, I have to agree with most points. :)

however, have the devs ever stated that they won't add them in any way? 0o

I think they did. The sum up was mostly taken from this topic, so not everything I mentioned came from me.

A fine educated response! :tops: You said "It could be fun but it would have to be balanced and require alot of work". Nothing worth having or doing comes from being lazy! Splash damage just have to fill in the gaps. That after all is what they get paid for!

No they get paid to build their game not yours.

It's simple. Splash damage likes fast paced action, because they began as a modding team for Quake. What was Quake?

Let me sum it up:

Brink =

- Fast-paced action.
- Different body types with different stats and strats.
- SMART.
- Class based.
- Objective based.
- Extreme customization for an FPS.
- Leveling system with skills and abilities.
- Close quarter combat with a personal tint (Extreme sniper shots from across the map are not included for this reason)
- Pretty big maps, but with a small battlefield focused around a certain objective.

If you add only movement vehicles, you will

- Make light body types weaker, because heavies can also use fast vehicles. There's no need for slow vehicles if you can walk faster.
- Have to switch up the whole class system to destroy the vehicles effictively or make them extremely weak, which will make them useless again.
- Decrease the fun of SMART, since vehicles are as fast as runnnig and using SMART.
- Have to make maps even bigger, with bigger areas to cover.

If you add only attack vehicles, you will

- Make light body types even more vulnerable.
- Have to switch up the whole class system to destroy the vehicles effictively or make them extremely weak, which will make them useless again.
- Decrease the personal confrontation, because you're not fighting face to face.
- Make gameplay way slower, since people don't want to get caught off guard by a tank.
- Make objectives extremely easy to defend as defender or extremely easy to attack for the attacker, depending on which team is best at killing vehicles.
- Have to make maps even bigger, with bigger areas to cover.

Story wise it's a bad idea to add vehicles because:

- The ark is made for sustainable living.
- The ark's population only started to grow AFTER it lost contact with the rest of the world.
- Resources are already dwindling.
- Damaging the ark would be a disaster.

The developers will not add vehicles because:

- They were not planning to do it in the first place.
- They have already delayed the game a year.
- They only did one game with vehicles in the past.
- There are non controllable vehicles like a maintenance bot.
- They will lose a lot of their audience by adding them.

I guess I missed some points here and there but still, it's a decent list I guess ^^

I couldn't have said it better myself. +5

(Wall O' Text I completely agree with)

Don't get me wrong - I love vehicles in other games. Hell, in Bad Company 2 the only reason I really play Onslaught mode anymore is to fly the Apache without having to race for it online.

But in this game... doesn't seem like a good fit.

You can't make a game not for vehicles and then put vehicles in it and expect them to fit right in.

DanOLion, what you are asking is for splash damage to make this game after your wishes.

Never going to happen.

limited resources, limited space, not to forget it's not that easy to build vehicles, certainly not ones that won't break down every few feet.
the amount of components needed to build a tank, myself, i'd just fix a couple of steel plates on a frame, put some wheels under it, and use it as a transport to get to a road-block.
i really can't see vehicles turning up on the Ark, it wasn't a military station, it didn't have the resources to start manufacturing military vehicles, guns? now if the world starts flooding, people start ransacking, i'd get myself a gun to protect me and my stuff, and carry it with me at all times, even when i go to the ark.
but a tank? i can't see anyone taking a tank to the Ark when he's running for his life. or anyone putting a tank on a prototype lifestation floating in the sea
or a chopper? or a hovercraft? perhaps only as transportation, and, what do you know? there's a cinematic chopper in Brink already!

but using it while playing? why??? the maps are small since they are based on a playercount of maximum 16!!

and like it has been said a lot, vehicles are overpowered, if they're not, there's no use putting them in, if they are, people will start camping next to a vehicle-spawn-point.

vehicles are serious fun-breakers, i myself prefer using them as a quick transport, but in a small map(wich are the only ones brink will have to offer i'm sure) there's no point, is there?

Unless you are MacGyver your not going to make tanks and cars out of the stuff on the ARK so I say no.

@DanOLion. I recommend you watch the main developer vidoes and interviews regarding brink. You will find that the developers are trying to create a game where it is based on close to medium CQC/CQB where you can see the white of your enemies eyes as Richard Ham calls it. The SD are opposed to tactics like 1-mile sniping tactics..etc. So I would think tanks and gunships would also go against game concept they are trying to develop ...so don't expect to see tanks and gunships in brink at all. Personally, I am sick of tanks and gunships in MP. We have them in MW2, BFBC2, HALO and MOH. It would be nice to have game where no tanks or gunships are not in MP...like Brink.
