Requests for DooM Beta

Post » Fri Jun 13, 2014 5:39 am

Hey @Gstaff,

Just a few requests for the beta.

1) Early Release - Don't pull a battlefield on us and please don't release the beta a month before the release of the game. I mean we all know by now that the battlefield betas were just hype machines and all the bugs in beta existed in release code to. One month is not enough to implement all the feed back from a beta. Release it early enough so that the developers can take the feedback and implement changes and players can figure our tricks and ways to get id tech 5 working well on their machines if it isn't already.

2) Mod Tools Beta - Game beta should include a beta for mod tools as an optional download too. The Rage mod tools were fairly basic and we never got a patch for it. Doom since the beginning has been known for it's modding. Please don't let us down by not having or having poor mod support. Last time with Rage id software collected a lot of feed back from the forums about the mod tools from us and we would like to see the results of it in this game. Another reason for having a mod tools beta is that by the time the game releases the community would have made a lot of multiplayer maps ready to go at launch.

2.2) Steam Workshop - You want a vibrant modding community, make this happen.

3) Complete Control - Wolf:TNO locked us out of most of the console commands which was not appreciated by many. There were a lot of tweaks we could have done if we had access to them. Don't lock us out.

Every DooM game till date has been mod friendly, not to mention many of the guys working in the games industry made their careers on these mods. I hope no one at id software has forgotten that.

I have a feeling that DOOM will be moddable just like Rage via the id Studio. A doom tailored id Studio would be great though!

Yea but the one with Rage was very limited and we couldn't get much done. Hopefully this one has a lot more going for it.

OP pretty much summed it up.

I usually don't demand anything from devs, I prefer to just take what the devs want to give me.

That being said, games that can be modded (especially AAA) tend to get a lot of mod community attention and are usually greatly improved as a direct consequence of modding, and get even more overall attention because of it.

The only reason a developer would be opposed to modding would be if the longevity of the game interfered with the next release, and even then it's going to have a negative impact on the prior game which may not even target the same market.

I can't see them doing a mod tools beta. Does such a thing even exist?

Yup, Witcher 2 did it recently. Valve stuff was like a beta initially. Starcraft tools had it too. By beta I generally meant. Release it early, during the game beta, get feedback. Improve it post release of game. But in it's beta state people can release maps for it. This way when the game releases you will already have a lot of fan made community maps to enjoy.

If there was ever a game that would make me get of my lazy ass and make a beautiful map, this would be that game.

Okay, thanks for that info guys. It would be awesome, plus no one is better for feedback than us who'll be modding!
