Requiem of the Androids: The Story of Unit Zero

Back Story

January-August 2283

The bright blue sky exposed itself through the cracks of the dark clouds, while down below on the ground fighting all around was taking place. Rain fell on the ruined city, drenching anyone that stepped out into it, and made the fighting even more difficult for some. The fighting was intense, with fighters on both sides rushing across empty streets, dodging bullets and laser rounds as they ran into other buildings, "clearing them out," and then themselves getting "cleared out," by the enemy. It was urban warfare at its finest. The fighters at Stalingrad would have fit right in, but even then, the fighting was so intense and so fearsome that no one was truly safe for more than a few minutes in the same position.

Shouts from both sides called for reinforcements and supply drops. The fighting was between two major forces: The Android soldiers of the Institute, which was safely secure of any nearby fighting, and allowed those living inside the Institutes protective walls to continue on living peacefully. Then there was the wastelanders, or as their forces preferred to be called, "The United League of Natural Humans." This band of rag-tags, was nothing but meager wastelanders, slavers, mercenaries, and other naturally born human-beings who'd joined to fight the Institute's Android forces which plagued the Commonwealth at every turn.

There was no denying that the ULNH was losing the war every day, and was getting no where with what they had. The things besides better armor, weapons, and all around supply lines, that the Androids had over the humans was a never ending supply of soldiers. There were all kinds of class models being made to suit different scenarios of battle, and all while this was still going on, the Institute was still hunting down rogue and captured Androids to bring back with them, and turn them on those who'd taken them into refuge or what-not, and still building dozens day by day. It was not an easy fight for the humans, but they somehow seemed to soldier on; their main source of fighters was the Capital Wasteland and nearby surrounding settlements that the Institute didn't bother dealing with for the time. Though the Commonwealth did at times send in special units of Androids dressed as normal wastelanders, to the Capital Wasteland to exterminate the latest collection or staging area of wastelanders to be sent up north. One of those places had been Megaton, which surprisingly held out for weeks until finally being overwhelmed by better weapons, not feet.

The ULNH, had tried to figure out a way of screening its recruitments for possible Android infiltrators, but each time they tried a way, the Androids would slip pass undetected due to their abilities to become so human-like, and the ULNH's inability to keep up with the advanced technology.

But not all was lost for the ULNH, like so many who were fighting or not fighting thought. The Brotherhood of Steel in the Capital Wasteland, though neutral and keeping quiet during the fighting, had begun secretly supplying the ULNH with their own Power Armor. It did fine, and gave the ULNH some time to regroup and rethink their plan of action on the battlefield, but soon the Institute caught on that the ULNH wasn't manufacturing the Power Armor itself, and learned of the Brotherhood's dealings. The Institute decided, that rather destroy the Brotherhood with their own force, they'd destroy it from the inside. It worked kinda good, enough to make the Brotherhood state that it would no longer supply the ULNH with Power Armor, but under the Institute's nose, supplied the ULNH with the blueprints for the T-45D Power Armor unit.

And so, the fighting became a stalemate for both sides, once the ULNH had captured a working manufacturing plant, and began working on their Power Armor units for frontline fighting. Their weapons were still not the best, and were still outmatched, but the ULNH had finally gotten a chance to be victorious while the Institute continued to manufacture and spit out Android after Android with the latest in weaponry and armor, along with the latest combat survival skills. The fighting was tough, and it was starting to look grim.

Current Situation

April 11, 2285

The fighting in the Commonwealth has continued to be a stalemate, allowing neither side to make much of an impact, though the ratio of Human dead compared to Android dead is still quite a bit, their ability to have soldiers brought up has not been hindered and like the Android's of the Commonwealth, are quickly replaced with another soldier when shot down.

There seems to be no break in the fighting, and everyday the fighting gets worse and worse, with no end of the fighting in sight. ULNH forces and Institute forces have began to build trenches like that of WW1 on the outskirts and riversides of the ruined city. Both sides leaders try to outmatch and out maneuver one another, but neither side makes much of an impact. The fighting is getting worse, and there is no end until one side has one and the other has lost.

Your Intervention

You are an Android, fighting in the war against the ULNH, and have just been assigned to a special task unit known as "Unit Zero". Your mission within Unit Zero, are known only to you and those others directed within Unit Zero. There is no talking or telling what happens in Unit Zero to anyone outside, and if so, it is met with an immediate shutdown of all your systems and you are reprogrammed as brand new. Your current assignment with Unit Zero, will be explained later when you meet the rest of your unit. Good luck soldier, and may you come back victorious!

The main fighting force of the Android units, the Assault Class is an all around well knowledgeable fighting unit. It has over all skills in basic firefights and combat, and is capable of doing almost just as well as the more defined Classes of Androids. Not as mass produced as the Assault Class is, the Stealth Class is used more for infiltration, and taking out hard to reach targets for the main unit to move in and clean up. They may not be as mass produced, but they're highly efficient in their work and get the job done. They are highly prized by the enemy when captured, but rarely are. They're a lethal force in the dark and other stealthy areas. They are faster than all the other Classes, but not as strong.

Mostly used for clearing large standing buildings on the battlefield, the Heavy Class Android is a force to be reckoned with. The Heavy Class is known for solo missions deep into enemy territory, but the thing is that most look like an ordinary Android or Human. The only difference is an increase in armor defense which doesn't make them too slow, but aren't as fast as the others. The Heavy Class is well known for being the heavy gun carriers of Android units, and like the Stealth Class, used for taking out the brunt of the enemy for the rest of the unit.

They're not well armored as the Heavy Class, but are better than the Stealth and Assault Classes, but durability wise not as great (it's a flaw that has yet to be fixed in the Support/Tech Class). Their main objective is to support and repair the unit as best they can under the circumstances, no matter what's happening. They're not the best fighters, and hardly do so when it can be helped.

Rules

1. What I say happens, must happen and no one is to take over my position of leading the RP unless I say so.

2. Do not take over other players characters unless they give you the right to do so.

3. No God-like characters or too over the top action. (For example, no killing six guys with one bullet or jumping around like a Monkey on the walls. Even Stealth Characters must find ways of getting to a vantage point.)

4. Follow the story, and don't go off on tangents with your own character by making your own little storyline.

5. Be friendly with others. If you have a problem with a player, please PM me, and I will handle it.

6. Use Common Sense. I know this will be a little over the top, but like early, nothing too over the top.

7. If I see you're not following the rules, I will give you fare warning before having to kick you from the RP.

8. Do not have more than 5 weapons. Androids can carry more, but while out in the wasteland keep it down to five for now.

It was three years since his creation, that he got his true Baptism by Fire, when a huge fight between his Android unit and Slavers got into it over captured people that were actually androids. A3-52 killed five slavers that day, and has since been killing humans all the same who rise up against the Institute. After a major recent battle in the Commonwealth between Power Armored ULNH and Power Armored Androids, A3-52 was given the assignment of leading a new top of the line and top secret unit known as Unit Zero. He was given folders of those also recruited into Unit Zero, and began learning about his fellow unit members. He has yet to go into battle with them, but he has been given orders of a special mission, that only the top brass and he know about; which Unit Zero will soon be informed of as a whole.

Well sure, if you want any abilities (which I know you do, Hircine21.) Just keep it not too over the top, (which you already know,) and keep it within the confines of your Android Class. I mean, there's not gonna be any Heavy Character with the ability to see as far as a Stealthy Character who can for it's purpose.

Bio: The Institute manufactured unit A1-16 shortly before the UNLH was formed. He was given the name Abraham Kazmid for use in the outside world. As a stealth unit, he was one of the few units to receive the Free-Run/Parkour capabilities, programmed after master Pre-war traceur David Belle. This of course allows greater movement and easier evasion techniques that the A1 units rely on. He was first created for the use of hunting high priority targets that were either a threat, serious liability (going hand-in-hand with threat), or a desired target for the Commonwealth. Most of these were escaped units who held valuable information for the Institute, but more than once had he been assigned to simply kill or capture Raider, Slaver, Abolitionist, Enclave, BoS, Outcast, and other targets. In the Institute database, it is recorded that he has never missed a mark, a total of 310 kills and many unmarked kills usually made from long range in order to secure the killing of his main target. He was also charged with several search and destroy missions, 3 of which were major Super Mutant lairs, 2 others were buildings housing large slaver sects. For his skills, he was enlisted into Unit Zero.

@Hircine: That's fine, but do get it up sometime tomorrow.

@Everyone: I think once the three have their CS's up, I'll have a mod lock this. (Unless someone arrives on here with a CS) Four people, and myself is a good number to start with in the RP and gives the whole Unit/Squad something small and close to work with, and allows people to get to know one another's characters. So I think five will be fine, but six or seven is fine too.

Bio: A5-76 was built for combat. During his early training, he showed a fighting prowess many, even androids, would cower at. As he is a heavy, wprking with larger guns comes natural to him, but he has always prefered Shotguns. The explosive, head-splitting sound has givin him comfort, he also likes the fact that it cansplit heads. But, under the Heavy, lies a softie. He has had a love for exploring, seeing and experiencing new things. Finding the worlds secret is his true wish. He also loves learning, and spent many hours in the Commonwealth's extensive library. His favorite books were on Sir Francis Drake, so when the naming process came, he asked to be named Fracis Drake. This is odd to most other heavys, as learning is for techs. As stated before, this doesn't make him weaker on the field. Commonwealth medics have picked many rounds out of him, as he barely winced as the plyers dug into him. That doesn't mean he can take missile rounds, or course. He was been a nightmare on the field, a rare combo of brain and brawn, peace and war, hell and heart. When Unit Zero needed a heavy, he was the natural choice.

Bio: Peter was made for the sole purpose of annihilating humans. Shortly after the introduction of Power Armour to the ULNH front, Peter was designed and programmed to help counter the new and improved ULNH soldiers. Built like a tank, Peter worked on the front line mowing down every human he could see.

Pete took pleasure in killing the humans, making their weak bodies explode under the might of his super sledge and watching as their limbs burned off as he pumped round after round into a human body. Although nothing compared to the challenge of taking down a ‘tin canned meatbag’ as he called them. These men usually proved quite a challenge; they could kill an Android quite easily if the Android underestimated the Power Armoured human, this caused precise planning when taking on one or more of these men.

Peter proved himself to be one of the best at taking these super soldiers out. In one such incident he managed to overcome a group of 5, using his brute strength, his laser and a whole lot of luck. All he received from the encounter was a nice wound to his stomach from the shrapnel of a grenade, his first and only ‘scratch’ from the war.

Although hesitant to leave all the fun at the front line, Peter obeyed his orders and joined up with Unit Zero.

Bio: A1-47 was designed to be a multifaceted unit of the android stealth division. A1-47 was given the name Jack Reins to be used outside of the Institute. Jack was created to complete missions of espionage, subterfuge, apprehension of runaways, and assassination. Jack’s main combat prowess lies in using his silenced pistol and assault rifle though he is also well versed in use of various sniper rifles. Aside from his skill with guns he has been trained in the art of using knives for close combat encounters and to silently deal with ranged foes.

A1-47 has a strong distaste for wastelanders viewing them as worthless flesh sacks. He is extremely loyal to the Institute and believes that runaways should be put down. To date Jack has completed 84 assignments for the Institute ranging from tracking down runaways to a high ranking assassination of a raider warlord. He has only failed one mission and that was the capture of a fellow android hunter, Assault Class A3-21 one of the best android catchers the Institute had. To this day Jack still hopes to run into his old friend to bring him back for his betrayal. Aside from the single blemish on his record A1-47 was highly recommended for a position in the newly formed special task force known only as "Unit Zero".

A1-47 was designed with several experimental enhancements to make him a more effective unit in the stealth division. His eyes were grafted with a second layer of vision allowing him to detect heat signatures, and scan enemy weapons. Though powerful this ability has a short range and is useless in areas of high heat. Jack can also take a diagnostic view of his surroundings to find areas of interest such as vantage points and places of cover. This ability can only be used in Jack’s current location. Finally Jack was designed to have enhanced speed and reflexes. However like a cheetah using his speed for a length of time will leave him quite fatigued and quite hungry.

@Hircine: Fine as well, but I don't know where you got the idea that my character has gone against the Institute, and would be hunted himself. Unless it was some kind of training exercise? I dunno where you're going with that, so either PM me if you are going somewhere with it, or edit that to make more sense if you want.

I should have the actual RP up sometime, I'm just making some critiques to it and such, so be a little patient. :)

Bio:A2-13 Was created before the UNLH was formed. He didn't see much action, and primarily stayed at his station, repairing what needed to be. When UNLH stepped up their assault effort, he was sent to the front lines very quickly. A2-13 is battle hardened, and has seen many weeds of constant urban warfare. He is very experienced in modifying weapons, repairing armor, and generally being support for a front line assault. He prefers using his shotgun and is an adept at hand to hand combat with his power fist. After weeks of front line combat, he was taken out of the front lines and attached to a battalion that was in charge of attacking a vulnerable flank of the UNLH lines. That operation ended in disaster, with many android casualties. When headquarters finally realized this was a hopeless effort, they contacted them and ordered them to retreat. Many androids were incapable of getting up after the days of gruesome combat. A2-13 Was one of the two dozen androids that stayed behind to hold off the advancing UNHL assault. He supported his fellow androids hour, after hour, and even rushed out in front of enemy fire to rescue several androids while the retreat was occurring. Every single android covering the retreat died, but him. He rushed back to what remained of his battalion with an android over his shoulder, still clinging on to life because of him. He was quickly identified as a combat hardened tech support android. For his bravery, combat experience, and his technical skills, he was enlisted into Unit Zero.

You're gonna have to get rid of one of the Power Armors. You only have one set of Power Armor (if you want) that will only be used in the Institute. While the team is out in the wasteland, they'll need to be incognito to everyone, and disguised as regular wastelanders. So get rid of the T-51b or Hellfire. The rest seems fine.
