I've just discovered that, for some reason, I can only focus on something when music is playing. But it's not just any kind of music. It has to sound like someone's committing a hate crime on an electric guitar. It has to be [censored] fast and angry and sound like Death is riding a motorcycle made of Vikings. Something like that.

No screaming, lyrics optional; what it needs are fast and insane guitar and fast and insane drums.

Sadly, I only have one song that can reliably invoke that sort of feel (remember, I'm mostly a fan of Elton John and David Bowie and their ilk, so I don't really care for most types of ultra fast rock). And doubly sadly, it's a DragonForce song. So far, I've listened to this one song, say... a hundred times just this weekend. And, yeah, it's Through the Fire and Flames (I got it legally through iTunes, don't worry). I discovered that while listening to this song over and over, I could get [censored] done, like I've only rarely been able to do before.

But, obviously, I'm not going to listen to DragonForce forever, because I'm pretty sure that's a circle of Hell and even though I used to like Through The Fire and Flames, I'm starting to loathe it. I've tried listening to other DragonForce songs, and, well, it just doesn't work.

So I come to you guys. I'm pretty sure this genre of music is called Speed Metal or something like that. So do you guys know of any songs that are like that?

If it's speed you crave, I'd suggest buying a cheap $70 electric guitar and recording your own crazy heavy speedy stuff. You might even like it better than stuff other bands have made since it would be your own creation.

You know there's a subgenere called speed metal right? As the name implies it's supposed to have very fast guitar shreds.

The only other song I know by Dragonforce is "Heroes of Our Time." The only reason I know this is because the YouTube community was angry that the song wasn't called "Star Chaser" because that's the main thing that's said in the song.

Also, OP, what you could do is take some of the slower metal songs that don't really motivate you, and set the fast forward button on Windows Media Player to be constant. I did that with some of The Ocean's songs and it was pretty crazy.

That's not necessarily true. If you could tolerate screaming, there's lots of fast guitars and drums to be found in the screaming sector of music. Not necessarily screamo, but heavier, more apocalyptic type stuff.

Straying away from that, there's a System of a Down song, "X" that is pretty fast. I don't remember the lyrics to it, so I'm not going to put in a link, but the drums are pretty rapid in that song.

If it's insane speed in terms of both guitar and drums, you may want to at least be open to the suggestion of unclean vocals. There are a lot of very technical bands out there with all kinds of crazily fast and complex stuff, but most all of them I've heard have had unclean vocals.
