[Reqz}Serial Killer Mod?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 5:08 am

Greetings,
While I know you can rp in your head as you hack some npc up, I would like to request an immersive mod that allows you to take on the role of serial killer as well as adding npc serial killers. Adding a nemesis on your trail would be a great touch as well. There could be evidence which would remain that could be investigated by town/city guards and an option to clean up after yourself to hide this evidence with percent/random chance operands determining success or failure.
Interesting features would be body part trophy taking(which would show on the corpse),skinning, etc.
I think it would be interesting to have the option to either be a serial killer or hunt them.
Just a thought,

You know, if you think of serial killer according to the post-Silence of the Lambs movies, a mod like this could be somewhat interesting.

Give the pc a "disease" that increases psychological torment over time: lowered personality, willpower, other penalties... a condition which is alleviated only by killing. Perhaps certain NPCs are introduced by the mod into each city that qualify as "targets." The killer begins to feel the effects of the "disease," and must go hunting for a suitable target - which he recognizes perhaps by a faint aura. These NPCs - and no others - would have special "souvenir" drops on their corpses. The taking of the souvenir would cause the pc to "recover" and the debilitating symptoms would be alleviated... until the timer is up again, and the cycle resumes. The timer could be set such that it accelerates with each kill, until the killer is forced into more and more killings.

On his trail could be a hunter, who does a round of interogations after each kill. He could approach the pc with questions - which could be made to be more threatening with each kill, as the hunter gets closer to understanding his prey. At a certain predetermined peak of activity, the hunter could appear upon assault of the next target and there would be a boss fight. If the killer kills the hunter, he perhaps could find on the corpse a journal containing an insightful "profile" of himself. Since this is Oblivion, perhaps the profile could contain info about having been cursed by an evil deity. And thus begins the quest for a "cure"...

This would work great as an alternate start mod - a sort of standalone alternative to the main game. You begin in prison, having been interogated after a recent murder. But without any hard evidence against you, you are released.

Jumping off of this idea, I'd honestly like a mod that adds a serial killer to the game, and sorta presses you into becoming the detective. You pick up a Black Horse Courier, right, and you learn that a grizzly murder has recently occured, matching none of the known M.O.s of the various assassin groups. The guards are miffed. A call for the citizenry to help is issued, and from here on, NPCs start to die at regular intervals, regardless of whether you do anything or not. Perhaps NPCs directly involved with the quest; the longer you take to start investigating, the more pieces of the puzzle start to get cut out, and the more people die. As you ditz off on your magical herb gathering quest for the pleasant old lady in the farm somewhere, completely ignoring the consequences of a quest (Like in the usual game), you're rewarded by more people dieing, a heavier price on your conscience (Nightmares as you sleep, perhaps, if you start to get involved?), and the quest becomes harder to complete with less leads and the killer becoming more skilled at covering his tracks as time goes on. Find a pattern, interrupt his kill, etc, etc...

I ramble. At any rate, yeah, I like the original idea posted above. It could add a new way to play your character.

Yeah, but it gets boring fast without any real game mechanics to motivate you or provide a goal/obstacles, etc.

Although I have no interest in portraying a serial killer, the idea above has a lot of merit. It could start out kind of like the Bruma quest "A Brotherhood Betrayed" and escalate from there. Perhaps, if you wanted to force the player's hand, you could even script it so that if the killer is ignored after a certain amount of time (XXX days), a main quest NPC gets killed, forcing you to take the killer out if you want to finish the main quest. Which actually probably isn't a good idea, but it could be done. A better idea would be to add new NPCs for killing, but make it an increasing topic of conversation, rumor, and Black Horse Courier headlines until eventually that's all you can get out of anyone. Merchants close their shops and NPCs stay behind locked doors, etc etc. At that point you would have to hunt the guy down in order to continue doing anything else lol. Heck, if I wasn't so tied up with projects at the moment (which I'm usually not, believe it or not) I'd tackle this myself. Oblivion meets CSI - classic!

Actually, great mods almost always start with a great modder.

Ideas really are a dime a dozen.

sure, you got the idea bubbling in your head. But most ideas don't make it into the "physical" world...technically virtual, but same difference (The difference of the two is the same)

I have had several many ideas pop into my head, they were never done, and probably never will be done. So the best thing I can say to you, if you want this done then cross your fingers someone takes it up, or better, pick up the CS yourself! :D
It is rare that any modder wants to take up anyone else's project, and especially if it is such a big project. Hell, if you were asking for a fire spell that did something you couldn't do at an alter of enchanting, I could do that in 5 seconds + the 2 minutes it takes to open the CS. But this is a pretty grandscale mod idea...not as big as trying to make every land in Tamriel + the moon + hell playable, but it will require a lot of work. So, go grab yourself of the number 1 best selling product and start learning.

yeah i was really looking forward to doing the questlines for the DB and they still are the most fun in the game.....but bethesda turned what was supposed to be a group of calculating cold blooded assassins for hire into unorganized, impatient and frankly amateur gangbangers. the morag tong were much more professional in morrowind. i used to use a mod that saved the members of the sanctuary but later removed it cause frankly i was glad to be rid of such unprofessional psychos.

You know, I like the idea of this-- and if I was still Modding, I'd probably give it a go :(

But, for now, I'll just throw a few ideas into the mix, incase anyone's interested :) (Note, all based on Pop-Psych and Television Show concepts, so might not be realistic ;) )

Maybe have different types of killer, and have it randomly chosen at the start of the Game; the Player doesn't know what they are, and finds out as the character does. Types could be:
- Racial Killer - Needs to kill members of a certain Race (maybe they make the PC feel inferior?)
- Gender Killer - Needs to kill a certain gender
- Rich-killer - Has low self-esteem, so kills wealthy people to make himself feel better
- Poor-killer - Likes to press home his superiority, by killing those socially below him
- Bully/Power-killer - Kills people who are a lower Level than himself, to feel "Big"

Maybe have the PC get a BONUS from killing, rather than just a restore-- to keep it going, you need to keep killing (like a "Kill high")

Grey-Cowl Style maskes - Give yourself an alter ego (maybe choose a name the first time you put the mask on?)

Signatues - Pre-determined misc-items that can be left on the corpse (Coins, Gems, Flowers, etc.)

Area-specific - Implement a system where Guards react to the killings in a specific area (could work with the signature idea)

Hallucinations/voices - "Ghost" NPCs who attack the player occasionally, like paranoid delusions

Nightmares - When the PC Sleeps, they have a 5% chance to have a nigihtmare about Guards chasing them

I like this. Being a random murderer sounds like it would be fun, although I would foresee the Dark Brotherhood trying to get you to join their ranks.
