Rerolling Character

Post » Sat Dec 03, 2011 1:25 am

Not sure which race to be for my new character. I'm going to make a Paladin with main skills focusing on One-handed, block, restoration, heavy armor, smithing and speech. A hybrid warrior / self healer.

Which race should I use? I was thinking Breton with the 25% racial magic resist or Imperial for the starting stats and racial Calm. Or the native race of Skyrim Nord.

Feedback is welcome :)

Whichever one you want since it doesn't matter.

Breton. You can never have too much magic resist. :D

Very helpful post. OP asks for input, any input, and you offer none.

It sort of does, faster leveling initially and more powerful earlier on. Plus the racial abilities.

I forgot to mention Breton`s racial 50% magic absorb.

nord, if i'm right people treat u differntly as a nord as opposed to elves and such, since you are "rerolling" i assume you played the game already.
also, nord frost resistance is great vs most dragons and many enemies

Breton's magic resist all the way. It's much more useful than the Nords frost resist, and as far as I have seen extra gold from being an Imperial doesn't really help you out. But seeing as this is a Paladin, he probably belongs to a religious order right? Pick a god. If you support Talos, you probably shouldn't be an Imperial. Otherwise, any race is fair game. Although I think Breton is more Paladin material.

Do you actually use abilities you can only get once per day?

I never do, so I tend to like Bretons, generally, (but then I play more stealth mage) but all those races work well for a "battlemage" type of character. (Of course, Imperials are just for extra money.)

I'd more pick race for the RP reasons. I like Bretons, again, as a sort of neutral party, if not Argonians. It depends on what your image of the character is, though. Nords are the big brawny guys, Imperials are the cosmopolitan types, Bretons are something of the sheltered rural upper class type (I think of them as drinking an awful lot of tea, myself).

Yeah, none of that really matters. Pick what you want to look at for dozens of hours, or what you want your character to be. Not what is most efficient min/max etc.

Thanks for the input everyone. I haven`t played through the entire game yet, but I feel like starting anew with a paladin lady. My first character is a Bosmer theif slash assassin and I use the Command Animal ability frequently its in my favorites. For example, on a particular quest (no spoilers) there were a bunch of venomous skeevers and a somewhat powerful ice-mage (I dont have a lot of protection being a rogue) so I commanded animal and all the skeevers turned on the mage so I could take him down. Then I just took down the skeevers easily because they did not retaliate :) I would definitively put to use racial abilities.

Nord. Because, were they still around today, vikings would be the answer to every problem.

Corrupt politicians? Send some vikings.

War in the middle east? Send some vikings.

Bankers ruining the economy? Send some vikings.

Can't get a jar open? Send some vikings.

I suggest Imperial. The guards and some NPC's are glitchy and they'll attack you and won't stop if you pickpocket/lockpick/etc... Voice of the Emperor just calms them down :D

Imperial, sense they cover every thing you need. They have a +10 restoration bonus, and +5 to heavy armor, one handed, destruction, block, and enchanting. But if you want to focus more on your melee than your magic, roll Nord.

I`m focusing on mostly combat. One handed and blocking until I`m low on health then grab healing in my other hand with my one-handed.

This character is going to be female by the way, an attractive female xD

I can also just scrap the shield and do one handed with resto and just use the ward as defence, but that might be inneffective.

Breton. Nords and Imperials are not in my interest because of their large role. I hate being a common

best part about skyrim, ur race only matters if u want it to. sure the early skill ups and powers are nice but ive heard of alot of weird combonations (nord mage, ect.). However, if u were concerned with the stats id say breton

Well, I usually play my Breton as a scholar with a serious wild side and affinity for the lower classes, being a mage/thief, but avoiding the Dark Brotherhood.

Anyway, the big difference between the three of those races is that Bretons are small, intellectual types, while Nords are large and physically intimidating warriors, and Imperials are somewhere between. Decide for yourself whether you want to play the sort of "paladin" that has a physically commanding presence and fits with a classic epic hero, or if you want someone who looks diminutive, but whose iron will makes them a giant inside a small frame.

Imperials were born to be Paladins. It's in their blood, culture, and personality.

Ended up making an Imperial I can always reroll if I want. Thanks for the input everyone! Picked Imperial for the starting skills, personality and calm racial.
