Rescue Varvur Sarethi

Post » Tue Sep 13, 2011 6:02 pm

I was doing the quest to rescue Varvur Sarethi, but I noticed some strange behavior and I wanted to confirm if it's a bug or what have you o.o ... Anyhow, once I reach Varvur Sarethi and have him follow me, the Venim Manor guards attack once they spot I'm traveling with Varvur Sarethi. The strange part comes here. They attack me only once (Perform a single strike) and then they cease to attack. If I strike them back, it's reported as a crime. If I don't, they go merrily on their way, forgetting that I'm escorting Varvur Sarethi out of the Venim Manor.

So is this behavior a bug? Just curious. o.o...

PS.
It's a Great House Redoran quest. Quest giver: Athyn Sarethi.

It's definitely not normal. It may be the result of a mod though.

I've always grabbed him and ran...no fighting back or anything. Once clear of the manor you're good to go.

If you've always avoided the combat encounters, then how do you know if the behavior of the Venim Manor guards is normal or not? In any case, I don't really use much mods. I like for my experience to be as vanilla as possible. The following image shows what my load order contains:

Anyhow, I searched in google and came across the following link: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind_talk:Rescue_Varvur_Sarethi

That link described something similar to what happened to me towards the bottom of the page (Guard Reactions/Self Defense). Anyhow, I completed the quest, but I just found the behavior of the Venim Manor guards to be quite strange. I've come across some minor bugs with the Morrowind Patch Project, so I'm just wondering if this behavior is consistent throughout the vanilla game.

PS.
I'm thinking that it may be possible that the guards "like" me too much due to high reputation/personality/faction reputation and they refrain from attacking me after the initial blow because the script, that initially makes them attack me, doesn't account for that. Just a theory.

Because I checked the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Main_Page and no bugs were listed for that quest. That site is pretty thorough.

Your PS is a possibility I suppose, but your rep with the Redoran guards shouldn't be terribly high at that point. Wouldn't think so anyway.

To be honest, the UESP for Morrowind doesn't seem as thorough as the one for Oblivion. For example, (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Disintegrate_Armor) states that Disintegrate Armor and Disintegrate Weapon on self deals no damage. My testing concluded that it was false and it does indeed work on both accounts (Disintegrate Armor and Disintegrate Weapon on self). It's not completely straightforward, but nothing a tad bit of testing couldn't unravel.

Another example is the following: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Telekinesis
That particular link doesn't state that Telekinesis does not work on books or scrolls. It may seem like I'm nitpicking, but those are just two examples off the top of my head.

With that being said, it's still a great source of information and I do look at it to make sure that I'm not encountering any bugs. I did look at the UESP's page for Rescue Varvur Sarethi prior to making this thread. This does not mean that just because it's not stated in the UESP, that I will automatically assume that it's something wrong on my end, as there appears to be other subtle things to be missing from the UESP (Like the examples I gave above).

Anyhow, my general reputation is fairly high right now and my Redoran reputation is moderately high. On top of that, my reputation with guilds friendly to House Redoran is fairly high. Just a theory anyhow *Shrugs*.

That's not a loadorder is just your installed mods, but you need to use http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1167004-relz-mlox-a-tool-for-anolyzing-and-sorting-your-load-order/ to have a correct loadorder. After that you have run mlox please post your loadorder here so that we can help you. :)

I'll have never experience your issue so it could be a script that doesn't get started or a mod conflict. I've no idea of what it could be.

Uh, I think I'll pass on that beta software. Anyhow, if it's anything like Oblivion, it should be displaying my load order (Albeit, my unmodified load order). Consequently, the screenshot also clearly displays the mods that I have installed.

Essentially, the following mods are installed in my game:

  • Tribunal
  • Morrowind Patch v1.6.5-BETA (Morrowind Patch Project)
  • Bloodmoon
  • All the official plugins
  • Morrowind Code Patch
  • MGE (Just vanilla MGE, no extra shaders. I just use it for the camera alteration and AA)

It isn't like BOSS or Wrye Bash for Oblivion I promise and I wonder why do you pass on Beta software actually it's quite simple. Just extract archive of mlox into the game folder along with mlox_base.txt I think it was called into the Morrowind\mlox folder, but it's your decision not mine. :)

I'll be honest with you. One of the main reasons why I don't want to bother with it is because from my point of view, it appeared as though you came in here caring much less about the problem occurring, and much more about advertising mlox. Anyhow, Wrye Bash for Oblivion isn't too complicated for simple use (In my opinion), but it appears as though Wrye Mash for Morrowind requires a specific version of Python so I haven't bothered with it yet. And I'm not really sure if I need to with my simple mod setup.

I can assure you sometimes it does matter what loadorder that you have and mlox is essential tool for that purpose, but since you have problems with Wrye Mash in general I suggest that you try this http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1180562-yacobys-wrye-mash-fork/ (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1106095-wrye-mash-stand-alone/ improvements of http://download.fliggerty.com/download-58-141 is included) version. :)
