Reserve one character's name equal to UserID for each player

Post » Wed Feb 19, 2014 5:08 am

I think it will be good idea to reserve one character's name equal to UserID for each player.

Profit is obvious. Less hassle at the start. Character's name equal to UserID is guaranteed to be free.

This offer is optional (not forced). You free to choose any name as you wish but one is reserved for you. You have choice. Why not? Think before you vote.

The problem is, MOST people don't use the same decision making process when naming their character as they do when making an account username.

GamerGorman20 (my visible forum username) for example is a horrible name for a TESO character...

With multiple names is it really necessary?

Wanted to be John but it was taken? Be John Smith, or John J. Smith or whatever... imho better to have a house or family that you belong to anyway unless your rp'ing a peasant hero (not being deragotory here, if you have one name I just immediately think you want a character with a very low social standing... which is fine and maybe it's just me).

GamerGorman20, Ok. You may use other than UserID like name. But if you want you may use it at any time in this case.

They need to change it so we choose another name to be visible in game and on the forums other than our login name.

No I'm talking about security issues and our login name being visible in game and on the forums. No idea why they chose to do it this way, a smarter thing to do would be for us to choose another name we make visible in the game and on the forums OTHER than our login name.

Doesn't matter that my password is good, I'm still giving away half the info needed to brute force my account under this system.

Not talking about your offer, just adding a comment on the login name being visible.

Also using character names and account names could lead to hacking.

Just theoretically. And again. This offer is optional. Don't use character name matched to UserID if you wish.

No, because many have already made UserID.

Nah, it's only beneficial to those whose userID is what they want for their names. For the rest of us, it's just restricted names. So no.

no, definite no. Because your username is the first thing hackers need to get to your account. And a lot of people use 123 as password

Yes... But only if they stick to their (IMO bad) idea of using the username in the game, *and* they offer us a convenient way to change usernames before launch.
