Reset console history

Post » Sat May 26, 2012 10:19 pm

Hi
Some time ago a friend messed around in my console to show me something, later he left, problem is one way or another every skilllevel I go up now counts for two towards levelling.
This means if I level in Onehanded 5 times, I'm 1 level up, for example. I find this pretty annoying (level scaling twice as hard so pretty unplayable in a short while), so I'd like to revert my game to the default console state.
Even stranger, these console settings carry over to
- New games
-New Skyrim installs
-New Steam installs

I removed all files that might not deinstall on their own manually, and still this stays. My conclusion (its just a guess so I might be miles off) is Skyrim console changes save on your Steam account/keycode/disk.
So, how do I completely reset console?
Thanks in advance.

You don't "reset" the console. The console is a commandline interface: you enter commands and they are executed, just as if you had installed a mod with a script using these commands. Once it's done, it's done, and of course the outcome is also stored in the savegame. They do not affect earlier savegames or new games. Certain console commands can effect the engine itself, but those will be reset when you exit Skyrim and reolad it.

In this case it most likely was the amount of Skill-XP needed for levelup. You need to change those settings back to their default values:

set fXPLevelUpBase to 75set fXPLevelUpMult to 25

This means you need to collect a total of 100 Skill points for level 2, 125 for level 3, 150 for level 4 and so on. If you raise a skill that starts at 20, you need to increase it to 24 to advance from level 1 to level 2 and then from 24 to 29 for Level 3, so those 5-6 times seem pretty normal for a new character.

As for your "friend", if you can't ask him what he did and how to reverse it, maybe you shouldn't give him access to your computer.

Mhh, fXPLevelUpBase is an unknown variable, do I literally put 'set fXPLevelUpBase to 75' in console?

Still I am 100% positive these commands were stuck in console for new games etc as well, pretty weird.

Sorry, I meant:
setgs fXPLevelUpBase 75setgs fXPLevelUpMult 25

Weird and impossible, as I said, for a new character levelup after increasing 5 or 6 skills is quite normal.

Wait, isnt it 10 skill levels a level always?
Thx anyway!

Edit: I still need to see if its different for new games (guess it shouldnt matter?) but in the current game its still 5 to 1.

No, as I wrote above, you get "XP" when you increase a skill.
You gain 20 XP by Increasing a skill from 19 to 20 and 50 when you increase a skill from 49 to 50.

The XP you need for the next level is 75 + 25 * current level

So if a skill starts at 15 and you increase it 6 times, you gain 16+17+18+19+20+21 = 111 XP and advance to level 2.

For level 3 you need to collect a total of 125 XP, but you already have 11 over, so you need 114 XP.
if you continue to increase that skill you need to do it 5 times: 22+23+24+25+26 = 120 .
When you increase another skill instead you need to increase it 7 times: 16+17+18+19+20+21+22 = 123.

For level 20 you need 75 + 20 * 25 = 575 XP. For this you need to increase a skill from 50 to 59, from 20 to 37 or from 90 to 96.

Max level is level 81. To get there from level 80 you need 75 + 81 * 25 = 2100 XP.

Guess I had a wrong concept in mind:p
Cheers!
