Resetting Perks. Yes or No?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 2:57 pm

I think you should be able to reset your perks ONE TIME. The reasoning is that you may have tried to play one way but later decide that you don't like it. EXAMPLE: I used 2 perks for Alteration but later decided that I wanted to use armor instead of Stoneskin so I wanted to reallocate the points. Since I have a PC I did just that but console users don't have this luxury.

Most people are going to play more than 30-50+ hours in this game... and yet the people against this expect everyone else just to "Start Over" and "Deal with it" just because they are threatened about the way other people play this game.

Alright, how about we get a sword at the start of the game that does 1000 damage, and can one hit almost anything. I mean, if someone didn't want to use it, they wouldn't be forced to, right? Oh, and let's give all players a toggleable invulnerability button. If you didn't want to use it, you wouldn't have to.

See where I'm going with this?

I'll reiterate what I said from the other thread. Reset perks? No. Especially not changing perks (removing a perk from one-handed to put it on illusion, or something).

I would however very much prefer to be able to get every perk. :\

imo, we should be able to reset perks because some people may not feel like starting a new game and putting in another 100 hours into the game.

This game allows you to change other traits about you.

such as your standing stone birth sign.

AND
Spoiler
Changing your power associated with your position as a nightingale at the end of the theives guild questline.

How are perks any different? Especially consider every other game conciders it good policy to allow talent/perks to be resetable to some degree.

I voted yes. I'm a completionist and have no interest on starting a new character, doing all the same quests, exploring the same places, etc.
I want one character and I want to do everything there is possible to do on that one character.
I would say no if the game still worked like it did in morrowind where you couldn't progress in certain aspects of the game unless you built toward that skill.
But that isn't the case, I can complete the whole game with one character and do everything there is to do... Why should I have to make a new character if I want to be a mage or a thief for a bit?
My character is a warrior arch-type and I recently decided to start the thieves guild story. Unfortuantly I can't respec to play a proper thief so instead I'm forced to play a gimped thief :( .

To all you saying no. What if the game only allowed one character and you made a poll because you wanted the game to allow you to play as many characters as you like. Then I came into your thread and said "no that would completely ruin the game, it's casual friendly enough as it is! You can only have one character because that's HOW I LIKE TO PLAY so you should play like that to!!!" I mean seriously, I play one character and yet the game allows for as many as you want but I'm not telling the people that play multiple characters to F off.

So care to explain why I shouldn't be able to go to the city talk to some guy, pay a bit of gold maybe, and respec my character to be a mage?

There are a lot of Role players on here. (it's a role playing game)
That means they like to create a background and purpose for their character, leading it's own life.

You can't understand that if you have put hours of training in your character training with a sword, it just feels wrong to pay some gold and go 'hurr i mage now'?

Right, it's a Role Playing GAME. We're just asking for the option to be able to reset our perks, it wouldn't do you and another Role-Players any harm if we had this OPTION.

Absolutely not.

What they should do is fix the current perks and make them appealing instead of necessary. After all, the entire reason for a the switch to this system was to encourage players to make choices. It isn't much of a choice if it's necessary (magic spell reduction levels, for example).

Cant believe people vote yes. The replay value is from starting new games to build a new character.

I don't think you should be able to change your perks. If that were possible, we could just change our perks to change who we are at will. It defeats the purpose of picking the perks in the first place.

No. It's a frankly stupid idea, as far as I'm concerned. A cop out for the chronically indecisive, and those with nanoscopic attention spans.
