Resetting Perks. Yes or No?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 1:44 pm

I see a lot of people wanting and some people disliking the option to resetting perks. So I just want to make a thread that will focus on the discussion on why or why not resetting perks should be allowed.

I don't think you should be able to change your perks. If that were possible, we could just change our perks to change who we are at will. It defeats the purpose of picking the perks in the first place.

No. Game already has enough handholding.

I think a one off quest or item to let you change them once.

Some people havent the time to play through again to try new perks , or correct a mistake . Plus what harm does it do in a single player game.

I always worry about people who want to stop people doing things in a single player game that has no effect on them. They want to demand how other people play. They tend to be people with way to much time on there hands.

I'll reiterate what I said from the other thread. Reset perks? No. Especially not changing perks (removing a perk from one-handed to put it on illusion, or something).

I would however very much prefer to be able to get every perk. :\

It should be in the game just for the fact of someone who is max level, or is done with a lot of stuff but doesn't want to restart, but DOES want to try some other stuff out.

I'm going to hold off on changing any of my perks via the console, but if I get to a really high level and realize I screwed something up, badly, I might consider doing it. Put me down as neutral = )

Look at all the cool forum people quoting someone else and adding nothing at all to the discussion. How... trendy and revolting.

Anyway, I don't see any sort of negative impact in the game if there was some sort of one time perk reset quest available. A lot of people end up putting a few points into random perks that either don't work as well as they had hoped or perks that seemed good at the time, but once the player/character learn more about the game are not so worthwhile.

And regarding that ever so popular quote from previously in the thread. It's such a vast oversimplification and knee-jerk reaction that I find it extremely disturbing how many people agree with it. Mr.DragonSlayer makes it sound like everyone in favor of perk resets wants a button they can press anytime they want to reset their perks.

What... Do you think people are going to perk for destruction magic to fight enemies at range, and then when they get closer they're going to reset their perks and put all their points into melee skills?

I have a question for you. A perk reset being in the game doesn't impact you at all since it would (presumably) be something completely optional. So, why does it bother you that someone would request this, since it does nothing but enhance their gameplay and leave your gameplay exactly the same?

i wouldnt mind it, but it should take some absurd thing such as 30,000 gold... getting stuff from multiple dungeons, or spending 10 dragon souls

it completely takes away replay value of the game. Your character is no longer who you build them up to be as you can essentially change "class" when you please. If you chose the wrong perk or want to play a different style, therein-lies the value of the ability of making a new character.

After having given the matter some thought (this is Ashura's 2nd thread on this topic in one day) I think I could support some in-game mechanism for respeccing. But! - I would like it to be part of a quest. Perhaps a trek up to the pinnacle of some mountain to meet a mysterious wise man/woman who will teach the player how to achieve this miraculous feat if - and only if - the player proves him/herself worthy.

Hey people stop being mindless and quoting someone without saying anything. It isnt clever. And YES I think it should be a one time thing where you get to reset your perks in case you feel like you chose wrong. I dont know maybe you go to the throat of the world and do a trial to reset it?

I have my perks spread a bit thin. But if I wanted to change them I would just make a new character.

I wish to explain for with this... Basically when I made the first thread I was simply wondering why we weren't allowed to reset our perks. It got off topic a bit, so I decided to make a thread that mainly focused on this discussion/topic. That and I wanted to change the Title thread and add a poll for people who simply don't want to post.

Maybe a one time option or a very hard quest to do it or lastly if it cost a great deal of money

But not an easy menu option

It would destroy any reason to actually think about the game if you could be a warrior for one guild, a mage for another and a thief for the third

resetting perks is a great way to make you choices for growth of your character and learning curve utterly useless and a waste of time. It would also completely ruin replays of Skyrim. Very, very bad idea... You might as well play some crap RPG online.

I think it would be great and save a lot of time releveling a character when you just want to play but I can also see where some people think it would take away from the game. But if you feel like it takes away from the game, just don't use it. Create a new character instead, your choice.

At the very least I think you should be able to find/loot a rare item and take it somewhere and it can be used to reallocate your perks.

Multiple people are quoting what I said without adding anything because they have the exact opinion I do. Which it turns out is a widely common opinion.
