My resolution on F4

Hello Bethesda.

I'm from Russia. I know you heard about us. According to Steam Spy Russia is the 6th country in the "owners count" list, it means that gamers from Russia bought more copies then French, Sweden, China, Poland, and many others. I'll put a link in the bottom so you can check it yourself.

Yet still, you had no interest on putting Russian language voiceover in the game, for the 6h (as it turned out) largest player base who bought your game. But you did it for the 7th , 16th, and 17th, which are France, Spain and Italy.

I see no other reason for it (especially not the most important - financial) besides disrespect and bigotry against my country. That's why i'm officially refuse to buy your product, and suggested doing the same to my friends and coworkers.

I'd like to hear from Bethesda staff about this discrimination, or hear other player's opinions on topic.

Kudos!

I am guessing here, but from reading about how spoken languages are supplied for other games (such as Skyrim), a company usually won't actually record the dialogue themselves - they will go to a Voice Actor Agency.

That agency will probably have a catalogue of languages it can provide and a number of different voices on their books within that language. There may also be a different cost to the game producer according to whether the language chosen is common in that geographical region or considered more exotic.

For Bethesda, they will have needed a certain number of different voices to make the game characters feel more unique and may also have had a certain budget for the provision of non-English languages. When going to a US Voice Actor company, they will have to make choices about how much they spend, the variety on offer and the likely number of purchasers satisfied with that language choice. Some of the less common languages may be cheaper so get added. Some of the more popular languages (like Russian and Chinese) may simply be too expensive to add (or, in the US VA Company) have too little variety. It would have come down to a cost-benefit anolysis.

Remember also that Audio in a game is a major contributor to the size of the download of the game and would limit the number of console players that could actually fit the game on their machine if more languages were added.

It will not (in my opinion) have been disrespect and bigotry - it will have come down to money and file size. If Bethesda had been a Russian company, I dare say it would have been folks in the Spanish, Portugese and Italian regions complaining that their languages were not catered for.

EDIT : I have just been reminded that Steam swap the language packs in and out as needed - disregard my comments about file size.

That might be a cost for having lower lower prices than others. So no, you aren't 6th in earning Bethesda the most.
