Rest of DLC's as awesome as OWB?

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 10:22 pm

Picked up NV on release date, beat it, but never got around to DL'ing the DLC's until last night.
Astarted off with OWB...

Are the rest of them as great as OWB is? because I am loving it. It's as if they left all of the sxploratiqon out of the main game for it. Dig the characters. the creepy SCIENCE! experiments and the like.

So..... are the rest as good is OWB?
IF you had to rank them, low to high, what order do you put them in?

I liked them all, Old World Blues is the one I liked the least, but many people consider it the best, and some consider it the only good one. I'd personally rank them like this though:

1. Dead Money
2. Lonesome Road
3. Honest Hearts
4. Old World Blues

It should be noted though that all of the DLC combined are basically a second main quest, with each DLC serving as one part of a bigger story. If you intend to play all of them at some point, playing them out of order leads to plot holes since the Courier doesn't know things that he should, and the add ons are structured to be played in order since there's an overarching storyline that is built up from DLC to DLC.

You mean in order of release?

Because I can only download one DLC package at the moment, and I wanted the get the best.

But if it works like this, I'm going to have to get the first?

You don't have to, it just makes much less sense because you have the Courier inquiring about things that he'd know if you've already played Lonesome Road, or things that he'd know if you've already played Old World Blues, there's also some other other details here and there that are lost on the player if they haven't played the previous DLC prior.

The DLC were intended to be played in order, but you don't have to play them in order or even play all of them.

crap, what was the release order again?

Dead money, honest hearts, old world blues then lonesome road?

I nticed tehre were a few things (so far) in OWB that reference both lonesome road and dead money.
mayhaps I should go to a previous save if it is more rewarding to do them in order, though.

It's not THAT big of a deal, no point in doing that unless you really care about the Courier asking several characters from Dead Money and Honest Hearts about the Big Empty. You can still enjoy Old World Blues despite having played it before Dead Money, only the feeling of "so that's how it happened" when you stumble across various Dead Money references will be lost on you if you hadn't played it prior, and the build up towards Lonesome Road will feel a tad bit backwards.

Release order: Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, Lonesome Road.

I personally think they're all incredible. I'd put Honest Hearts as the weakest and Lonesome Road as the strongest, but they're all just as worth playing as Old World Blues.

One note: Whatever you decide to do, do not play Lonesome Road if you haven't played the other three DLCs.

I agree with this, Lonesome Road is the best and it should definitely be played last. If you can hold off then it might even be best to wait until you know which faction you're going to support.

Old World Blues has some of the best gameplay features in it (like the sink) Dead Money has the most interesting twists (like no equipment, traps, etc.), Honest Hearts has the best environment, and Lonesome Road has the best story.

Also OWB has the best humor and amazing SCIENCE! feel attached to everything; Dead Money has great survival horror feel; Honest Hearts has the best moral choices IMO, even though Lonesome Road choices affect wider areas.

honest hearts is the easiest to do so you can go into at a lower than dead money which is the hardest. i think all of them allow you to go back after finishing the main quest of the down loads.

try honest hearts then owb or lonesome road, and dead money for last. dead money is the hardest because you start off with nothing. the PHOENIX Monocyte Breeder will come in handy as well as above average melee and unarmed skills.

You can't go back to Dead Money. And it's for story reasons that you should fo Lonesome Road last - much of the information it provides requires having played the previous DLCs to fully understand.

Plus, Old World Blues is the hardest. Everything spawning in your face with insane perception? Ugh.

OWB is far and away the best DLC for New Vegas, imho.

... Lonesome Road I personally think is the best - I'll have to find out once I get Deadmoney.

Just thought I'd say.

Honest Hearts is complete crap.

Ironically, I think it's the only one Chris Avellone didn't design.

Well Dune is the only one that figured out the complete story to it.

But anyway, all of them are better than OWB.

If you skip Honest Hearts, you won't miss much except if you really like .45s. It's just forgettable.

OWB has character and is good if you like to pick environments clean because a lot of normally useless items are used for The Sink. I also really like the lunar landscape of Big MT.

Dead Money is good imo. You won't like it if you like to rambo-hipfire and knock everything out of your path. It demands more caution and attentiveness.

I didn't think Joshua Graham was a very "forgettable" character. Neither was the Survivalist.

Dead Money ftw. Best DLC imo. The story is amazing, and playing through it on a DID character is absolutely thrilling.
Honest Hearts wasn't that great BUT in retrospect, I'd say Honest Hearts has the best replay value of them all, since it's brief, provides good loot and the scenery is nice. It never feels like a chore because you can get in and out in no time.
OWB stands out as being the exploration DLC. It's very non-linear, never claims to have an amazing story and just gives you fun locations to explore.
Lonesome Road is closure; similar to Dead Money in a way in that it provides a challenge.

I really liked OWB. It's very bizarre and un-realistic, but in a good way.

All the DLCs are well worth the money, and they all are very different to each other.

Dead Money has fantastic writing, and great characters. Its Survival Horror theme is also pretty unique, and the finale is absolutely thrilling.
Didn't like some of the earlier parts, they tried a bit too hard with the overdone maze structure for my tastes. But once you're inside the Casino, it's just awesome.

Honest Hearts has beautiful scenery, it's even got weather, a really compelling side story that is scattered around in various log entries, a really interesting moral decision to make, and Joshua Graham aka the Burned Man.

Lonesome Road delivers a lot of info about yourself, Ulysses, the NCR/Legion conflict and ED-E. It's very linear, and combat-heavy, with the most challenging combat area in the whole game, the Courier Mile. You also get to make a decision which potentially influences the Mojave directly.
The environment is very hostile and will especially please all these people, who enjoy post-apocalyptic sceneries of destruction.

Every DLC has its own fair share of new items, weapons, and armor, and each should keep you entertained for a good couple of hours, albeit not as long as OWB, which is the DLC with the most content.

The science side of OWB is what really pulled me in, as my char. is generally a science geek(with a BIG ASS gun :)
By far my favorite piece of DLC ever, this is souly MY OPINION, so please respect that.

As for HH, it's gotten mixed reviews, even by me.....
The first time I played it I had basically no clue who Joshua was nor anyone else. I generally only cared about getting that bad ass .45(you know it is) which left me with a decent quest line.
My second playthrough I did in fact have a desire to pursuit the legend of the Burned Man, and with that sense of trying to get the full story I ended up enjoying HH MUCH more.

If you(op) havnt begun the DLC yet I would STRONGLY suggest playing in order as many have already said.
I started with OWB, and ALOT of the content didn't make sense.
Example(no spoiler): you quite easily come across Elijas' Advanced L.A.E.R, I figured it was some guys gun which some how or another ended up there.... Turns out Elija is far more important/ involved than I could have ever guessed.

What I'm trying to say is that when the dlc is played in order of release it adds to make a FAR more immersive/ meaningful experience, IMO. Just be sure to ask questions just like the smart man you are(lolz) and things will make a whole lot more sense.

Ooooooooooooooh!!! I almost forgot.... DO NOT start Lonesome Road if your at any level less than 30.
I started LR when I was level 42-43 I believe, very well equipped.... I got utterly DESTROYED!
LR was the only time I literally needed to turn down the difficulty from Ver Hard down to casual. Just sayn BE PREPARED.
