Rest-less forever? Invisible enemies are always nearby...

Post » Mon Feb 03, 2014 9:00 pm

Emerging from Xaselm after talking with Relmyna Verenim, my character cannot rest, repair anything, or fast travel because of an eternal "enemies are nearby" message. This message persists even when in New Sheoth and in an inn bedroom. This is a potentially disastrous glitch. Does anyone know of it, or a solution? Checking it on Google, I find that others have had it years ago, and suggested solutions include "clearing the cache" or getting thrown in jail. I will experiment with various things, but I thought I'd ask if anyone has recently experienced this glitch and knows of a sure cure. Does the game think I'm being followed around by an invisible zombie or something? (Now that I think of it, there were several times in Xaselm when I could not sneak although no enemies seemed anywhere nearby, and my character was wearing a helmet that gives 105' of Detect Life.)

Get into prison. The clear cache trick only works on consoles :)

Oddly, the problem has solved itself. My character went for a walk in the country--actually I was planning to go to Cyrodiil and be imprisoned there--and tried to rest every couple of minutes. At first she couldn't, then she could. The glitch just went away. I have no idea why it started or why it ended. I hope it doesn't happen again.

My condolences to you, Inafog. This is a thing that really aggravates the hell out of me about all of the Elder Scrolls games. The developers have no business at all telling me when and where I can sleep. If I want to try to sleep in a dangerous area that should be my choice. Let me suffer the consequences if I get attacked during sleep. If I want to try to sleep in an owned bed, let me take my own chances on getting caught and going to jail. I will never understand why Bethesda feels it is necessary to forcibly prevent us from doing these things.

Well, *sigh* this is one of the reasons why I will always play on PC. I can fix this with mods. ;)

I find that moving through two or three exterior cells will clear up the Enemies are present issue. The reason it happens is the enemy spawns underground. If enough is going on in a cell, they can make their way back to the surface, but otherwise just try to attack us or track us from underground. This is why it can follow to interior cells.

The reason the game makes you not be able to sleep or FT when enemies are around is it is basically insta heal or escape during a battle.
