Restarting Oblivion

Hi everyone,

I want to play Oblivion again, after some time. I used to love it, but my xbox got the red ring and I lost all my save files. I had a character I was extremely attached to and well, you guys probably understand my frustration when I lost him. Anyways, that took away the appeal of Oblivion for quite some time. Lately though, after beating Fable 3 a few times, that I wanted to try to get back into Oblivion, for a deeper experience. So, I've been reading on the forums, and after seeing a journal entry of someone who made a quest, I decided that I wanted to create a new role play character. I already have most of his back story and initial drive for his actions completed. But, that's the only things I really have planned out. So, I need help on what his build should do. He'll have to have plenty of skills to survive in the Shivering Isles.

Okay, so his name is Anruin, and he's a Bosmer, because I love the little guys. Besides, the character I was attached to was a Bosmer also, so I have a special love for them. About six years before he was thrown into jail, he met a beautiful young Bosmeri archer named Nathien, and four years after, he fell head over heels for her. But, before he could find out how she really felt about him, she got killed doing a contract for the Fighter's Guild. Anruin was completely and irrevocably heart broken. He was so sad that he became a regular in the Skooma den. After a while, they got raided by the guards and that's how Anruin was thrown in jail.

And that's all I really have. I know that since he's tired of feeling heart broken, he'll go into the Isles early on to get some greenmote, since (I'm not so sure, though) it's not illegal. Like I said earlier, he needs some skills for survival in the Isles, most likely, he'll be in Dementia for a while. He also has a special dislike for the Fighter's Guild for obvious reasons.

I'm thinking that these may be a possible set of skills for him:
Class: Ranger
Race: Bosmer
Birthsign: The Steed
Specialization: Combat, Magic, Stealth
Attributes (2): Agility, Personality
Major Skills:
Marksman
Alchemy
Illusion
Light Armor
Sneak
Armorer
Blade

I don't really care about leveling speed or level caps, so I just chose the skills that I love to use, after all, this is going to be my main character, so might as well enjoy it as much as I can, right?
I'm also going to roleplay him as if I was a mentor that has been there all of his life. However, he doesn't always listen to me, especially when it comes to me trying to get him to stop his addiction.

That sounds like a pretty good role play to me. The fact that you have alchemy means you should be wandering about the wilderness alot, experimenting with random plants and things you find... seems to also suit your character. :)

Have fun!

Hates the Fighter's Guild?

Hmm....do the FG quests until Blackwood. Then proceed to join BWC. Once you're in. Go back to the Fighter's guild and murder everyone cruelly. DB will help.

Kill enough Fighter's Guild scum and you'll be kicked out permanently. Just keep going back in and killing people in all the guild halls.

When in doubt about people - just nock an arrow and send their soul screaming to Sithis.

My last computer died over a year ago so I lost all of my progress. I just now decided to start playing again and this time I will not go by my die hard "always play on the hardest difficulty" philosophy and just toy around with characters. I tried starting a Breton specializing in martial arts, but he was such a pathetic wet noodle. I then proceeded to my original theme of an Orc with a big hammer and some experience as in shamanistic battle enhancement. I could not think of a name for my class and I was thinking about something like.... Stonepounder. I like to think of it as a human battering ram.

As for my recent incarceration.....let's just say being of limited intelligence and having a passion for cheap ale do not mix. I was making the most of my time between Fighter's Guild contracts by doing what I love most, sitting in a tavern drinking drinking until I can not feel my face. A stout fellow of questionable character decided to challenge my honor because I may have stumbled over his stool and bopped his head with my tankard. As a proud and fearless warrior I accepted and went outside to stomp his head into the ground. After pummeling the poor fool I saw a couple shady characters advancing on me in the shadows. I met them head on, flailing about my trusty giant maul. The thugs were incredibly tough to smash and it took possibly 20 swings before they toppled! Then some one smashed me over the head and the next thing I remember was being woken up in a prison cell. My body felt like it was trampled by a herd of cattle and my head like the inside of a chiming church bell. It took me a while to understand the guard when he was explaining that people saw me stumble into a support pole on my way out of a tavern after the servers cut off my supply of ale and I then proceeded to bust apart the front support poles of the nearby stable causing it to crash down up me. Naturally, I refuted such slanderous notions, but what can I do about it behind locked bars?

I do not care about attributes tied to spell casting since I am just a simple Orc using cheap parlor tricks to give me an edge in combat. My profile is:

Class: Stonepounder
Specialization: Combat
Race: Orc
Birth sign: The Warrior
Attributes: Strength and Endurance
Major skills: Blunt
Blade
Block
Heavy Armor
Athletics
Alteration
Restoration

I think it will be a pretty bland, but I enjoy some head crackin'!

I played the heck out've Oblivion last summer: about 5 or 6 different characters, ranging from 50 hours to 200 hours. Probably about 500 hours in total. My mod load list

Oblivion.esm
bookplacing.esm
Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp
DLCShiveringIsles.esp
Enhanced Economy.esp
Map Marker Overhaul.esp
Map Marker Overhaul - SI additions.esp
MD_Saddle_Bags_Lite_v2.esp
MD_Saddle_Bags_Accessories.esp
HorseCommands.esp
MD_FasterHorseTurning.esp
Knights.esp
Harvest [Flora].esp
Harvest [Flora] - Shivering Isles.esp
Book Placement v2.esp
Bag of Holding.esp
DropLitTorchOBSE.esp
P1DkeyChain.esp
SetsunaDummyTraining.esp
Toggleable Quantity Prompt.esp
ATakesAll.esp
Tyler's Hungry, Thirsty, Sleepy, Tired.esp
RenGuardOverhaul.esp
Denock Arrows.esp
Let There Be Darkness - Cyrodiil + SI.esp
Let There Be Darkness - Knights.esp
Arena betting.esp

Never did really "finish" the game, though I'd say I've explored a good 30 to 50% of all the locations on the map. Highest level character was 15.

Contemplating going back to playing, but (a) not sure if I've really waited long enough for the memories of places to fade sufficiently; (B) somewhat 'dreading' readapting to the complex controls and leveling system; © not sure what sort of theme I should follow. My past characters mostly were just sort of wander around the savor the game world types. They included: a male Imperial battle mage L10 I think; a female Breton battlemage L15 (the last one I played with); a high elf mage L2; a sociopath wood elf assassin/ranger L11 or so; at least two other characters but cannot remember exactly what they were. I had made it into the Magic University with two different characters, and made it into the Dark Brohood once. Never really finished fighters or thieves, and only progressed a short ways in both of those.

So I'm thinking of DLing the additional DLC that augment the game (Frostcrag Spire; the one that enhances magic and allows you to create spells without joining the Uni; etc.) though I do have Knights and Shivering Isles. Never went to Shivering Isles and all, and progressed through about 4 or 6 chapters of Knights.

I'm pretty happy with my mod set. Mostly I just want a bit more realism and detail than in vanilla (e.g., hungry, thirsty, sleepy tired). Any suggestions on mods I might consider that would complement that set?
