Restartitis. Going to try and put an end to it. Are you too?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 8:52 pm

Re-start-i-tis.

I have a major problem with it. I do it all the time. Even done it with Witcher 3. I guess not knowing how the game works, and then finding out something new and find you can't do it, I usually start over again.

This time I am going to try and keep my first character no matter what. Since I will be playing this game over and over again, may as well try my first character and just stick with it, and then what I learn, I will use it for my next character.

So how about you? Do you have a problem with Restartitis? Will you make Fallout 4 the time it stops? I am hoping for me, it is.

I'm planning on giving the male PC a try for about two hours to see if his performance in the game overall is better than all the not goodness we saw at E3. It's also a guinea pig of sorts to map a build and see what perks are available for any given SPECIAL.

As long as My character can be made to somewhat resemble My Forum Avatar, I will have a nice Hard Save at Level 1.

I did not get Restartitis in Fallout 3 and New Vegas until midway through the Games. Restartitis in the Elder Scrolls for Me is from trying a different type of character. My first Sole Survivor will spend a lot of time exploring and dealing with My curiosity getting Her killed.

With Fallout I typically play through twice. Once where I just go through the whole game and a second time I go through making decisions correctly that give me unique weapons. Only played through skyrim once though, so we shall see

First thing after I installed the game on my PC: see if I can use Mod Organizer to manage multiple profiles.

I restarted so many times in Skyrim, New Vegas and DA:I stop counting around 15  .

I usually get bored with my current character so I delete to try a new one. Get bored with them and repeat the process after a few hours. Or something that really doesn't matter like their nose being slightly off, there eyes being the wrong color or shape or their facial hair isn't perfect. I need serious help. I told myself I won't restart Fallout 4 but deep down I know I will. I'm just glad I'm not the only person with this problem.

I got a flash drive for my PS4 so I think I'm going to save different characters on there just so i won't restart every 3 hours.

Ive finally managed to defeat it just recently. Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, all have a single character that will last as long as I can make it. Fallout 3 and New Vegas are also online, and so will Fallout 4.

Godspeed, brother. It took making multiple characters of major archetypes in the games to undo it. if I want to play a Ranger, its Morrowind time. if its a mage I desire, its Oblivion. Bolt-action survivalist? That's Fallout 3. And so on.

My restartitis is usually MOD induced. Since my first play through will be MOD free, I don't expect to have too much of a problem with it. After that, as more and better mods become available, all bets are off. I'm not even going to try to fight it.

I will probably play the arch-type i want the first go around (Energy weapon, PA, strength, BoS).

I will probably play through it again after that with the choices I like.

Then i will experience the other arch-types and faction endings.

I find myself generally restarting a couple of times to perfect my build, especially once all the special raising items are discovered and I don't see it being any different this time.

Restartis is not a disease. Restartis is a way of life! It is a vocation, a calling, like the priesthood. We are the few, the proud, the brave, the thin red line that stands guard, ever vigilant, between the casual player and whatever the heck the opposite of casual player is. We are the unpaid and under appreciated stress-testers of tutorial dungeons, the digital Magellans who navigate the treacherous waters of the first ten levels and come back around to our starting point again and again only to be called names by those timid souls in the court of the Spanish king Charles I who all secretly wish they had the the guts to restart a character as often as we do, but don't.

I think my problem is I don't replay the game enough times. I never really restart my first character (unless I've screwed up character creation in the first hour or so), and I'll completely finish everything with that character.

After that, I create an evil character and try to do the main quest with him/her, but often I don't finish it. So I rarely play through these games more than twice or three times. Hopefully Fallout 4 will be so good that I play through it heaps.

:D!

I always get new character ideas, new ways to RP, different reasons to do certain stuff on different types of character, not to mention how different characters respond to certain things.

So nope, I will, like pretty much any other Bethesda game, make a few hundred characters. :)

Restartitis is a big part of the way I play these games! I'm too picky about things to let it go lol

My restartitis is so real. It gets increasingly severe the more options I have for my character. The amount of times I've restarted DAI is nauseating. Times I've finished the game: 2 time played: 628 hours. It's insane. I find that having several separate saves with established backstories and planned plot decisions (and romances) laid out tones it down. Cuz if I only have one 'real' character there's an incessant voice in the back of my head saying XYZ would be better for ABC reasons.

Restartitis in Beth games is still bad but not that bad. I'll make sure to save early with a male and female this time though. And probably a variety of races too.

Very much this. I've played enough Fallout/TES games now to know how a basically like doing things, and I always play unmodded first go around so I can appreciate the mods I add, and learn what needs modding. It's once the mods get going it gets hard; it's nigh impossible to settle on a "perfect build" for the length of time it takes to do a complete playthrough.

Nope, as this is what I find the most fun about RPGs with blank slate PCs. I love that you can always create a new fresh character and get a new experience, if you find your current character is getting boring or is just not up to your standards.

I create my character carefully with patience and play slowly so I almost never restart, only if I wanna fukk around in the gameworld...I spend an hour creating the character that it becomes so unique I'd feel sorry replacing him.

Will be completing the game 100% with my 1st character(roleplaying myself). Hopefully.

Not really into roleplaying all kinds of characters that are not me lol...the decisions are always mine so I might aswell roleplay myself anyways...

Bit of a different problem for me. I play one character so long I usually burn out of the game before restarting.

Skyrim was the only Beth game I really branched out into multiple characters. That was to RP different stories among the archetypes. Morrowind I was an unapologetic Master of Everything. FO3 / NV just a single char each.

I guess it depends on why you restart. For me the reason usually involved being unhappy with early choices, like which class skills I chose for my custom class in Oblivion. Skyrim pretty much eliminated the need to restart for me, as I was never forced to make an early character creation decision that I later came to regret. The only time I felt compelled to restart in Skyrim was when I tried playing an evil character. It wasn't long at all before I realized that I didn't like him (or evil characters in general) well enough to be interested in his story.

Fallout 4 looks like it will be forgiving enough (where character development is concerned) that feeling compelled to restart shouldn't be a problem.
