Restoration Conundrum.

Post » Fri Feb 21, 2014 3:18 am

My problem is, I like to learn things from trainers that I wouldn't normally know on my own, such as the crafting skills, magic, lock picking, etc. it's my role-playing thing.

I've been looking for a restoration trainer. However, the ones I know who train aren't available.

Danica Pure-Spring (Master Trainer) was my first option. However, she won't train me. The dialogue isn't there. Am I supposed to do her quest line first? I didn't think I would need to.

My second option is to go speak to the trainer at the Hall of the Vigilant. But the doors are closed and doesn't give me the option to open the door. Is this normal?

The only trainer I have had training with in the past is obviously the restoration trainer at the college of Winterhold. However, they require a healing hands spell to cast in order to enter the college, which I'd have to break my RP rule in order to get in.

Any idea how I can get Danica pure-spring to train me or get inside the hall of the vigilant? I think am out of options otherwise. I'm standing outside of the hall of the vigilant right now.

Why do you feel it's necessary to train?

I thought I made it clear enough in my first post.

This is the way I look at it...can you conjure fire from your hands? Probably not. Neither can I. Now in Tamriel that is a possible thing. Can people do it there? Of course. Can everybody do it there? Not every single character. The training is the key I need to unlock that kind of power, rather than just being a complete badass right from the start.

Just do Danica's quest then. It can he hard if you're a low level.

So you feel that your character cant learn anything for themselves and therefore have to be trained. Although you state that you like to learn things on your own in your OP, am I missing something here?

i like to learn things I wouldn't know on my own is exactly what I said. I probably should have been more specific in saying my problem is I need training in skills I wouldn't know on my own. My apologies.

I want to use every skill in the game eventually. So I'll need training first before I can use certain ones.

Shadow Titan answered my question though. I never bothered to finish her quest. I didn't think it would matter. Thank you.

If you're learning restoration, why is casting a healing spell for the college breaking RP?

Constance at the college is the best trainer for a while since she is a merchant as well, so you can sell items to get your gold back in order to "power train".

If you have Dragonborn, Alphia Velothi in Raven Rock is a common Restoration trainer who can train you up to skill level 50.

Spoiler
If you have Dawnguard, it's a poor idea to rely on Keeper Carcette for training because of what happens to the Hall of the Vigilants...

Also, if you have Dawnguard and choose to join the Dawnguard itself, one of the members there is a master Restoration trainer.

I find training expensive, when my character was low level and even now if there is gold enough. What I did was go, at the start in order to gain skills was go on my own quest of finding free books/tomes around Skyrim to learn new spells or skills. Training gives you around one point/level increase up, something you can get by practice alone. I needed no training in restoration, I don't even remember where I learnt it (Haha!) Maybe because I went to the College of Winterhold, or maybe because my character is a Breton, or perhaps I acquired it in a quest. It's one of the easiest skills to acquire, is what I am saying. Ok, wait... now I remember, it was the first lesson (I think) that is taught when you enter College of Winterhold. From then on, I increased the restoration perk because I found it so useful, especially the healing spell so I didn't have to bring so many healing potions around. It's one of the most useful spells around. Good luck!

It is the old "catch-22" thing happening in their roleplay.

They don't know anything about restoration magic:

In order to be taught about it, they need to get into the college for the training.

In order to get into the college, they have to cast a restoration spell, which is why they are there in the first place, to learn about restoration.

Did that help?

If it's a role playing thing then maybe initially restoration could be learnt from a skill book and then improved upon at the characters leisure, you know, self taught. People do obviously read and learn from books so maybe this could be a way to get round the role playing issue, just a suggestion.

it seems that the spell to enter the college changes from time to time. i have entered the college twice and had a different spell to cast each time.
