Restoration for an archer?

Post » Sat Aug 17, 2013 11:37 pm

I'm wondering if it would fit.

My character, a so called ''Guardian of Auri-El'' is a Bosmer archer, who will eventually wield the lovely bow of Auri-El. She also uses a shield and sword in close combat.

And I was thinking, if you are the guardian of a ''holy'' type of god, restoration would fit, no?

The thing is, she likely isn't going to be harmed alot if she's doing ranged combat, ofcourse she does close combat aswell as I mentioned before, but then she got plenty of protection with the shield. So I got that feeling that restoration won't be used alot.

What do you think?

Restoration is always useful, regardless of what class you use. You could always use Alchemy instead, but I prefer Restoration.

Yeah it is. But then I also think of her personality.

She's very active and stubborn. And though she's wise and graceful, I think she's more of a character that wouldn't use magic herself, and be more of a hunter instead.

Out of 35 characters, only one has even placed a perk in Restoration. That is because he was a Holy Smiter and built around that Spellsword playstyle.

None ever really needed it. The Warriors didn't use magic and the Assassins, Mages and Archers seldom took enough damage to feel the need for it. There was always another skill that deserved being used let alone spend a perk in it.

Why not pick up both? Restoration for healing and wards etc. Use Alchemy for poisons, which can be very powerful...especially when perked along with enchantments.

My character won't use enchantments or alchemy. Doesn't really fit her.

And even though restoration can be put in there, I feel that her personality won't really fit with it. I feel that light magic would be more like something she's associated with, but not used as skill.

I think I'll just play with her and do what feels more natural for the character. Who knows it might fit after all, but probably not.

It can definitely fit. If you intend to hunt down undead and vampires, then you could use the Restoration attack spells against them...as well as Stendar's Aura for an aggressive defense.

She'll probably use her arrows instead, or her blade. She's the guardian of a god, but still very much focused on her bow instead of magic.

I had an Argonian a bit like this a little while ago (although he did use alchemy). No Enchanting, no smithing, no armor whatsoever. He walked around the entire game wearing the same thing he was given in Helgen. As a pure thief, this RP wound up being a bit on the short side, and it was a bit rough getting from town to town in one piece...His only weapon was his trusty bow he carried with him everywhere.

That was one of my most fun playthroughs even though he was only around for almost 50 hours.

That reminded me of a character I had one. He was short lived due to a premature death. I installed a nvde mod so he was completely naked throughout the entire playthrough. I installed a hair mod that gave him long enough hair to cover his butt. I mostly play in 3rd person...

He was a Vampire the entire time. I hadn't planned on him being naked all the time, but he started out like that so he could sneak better and just stayed that way.

He was very.... proud.
