The snow covered mountains echoed with a firefight. The Chinese kept pouring out of the tiny bunker as if it were a clown car at a circus. They found cover behind rock formations and returned fire at the Americans. The wind whipped and pulled the oncoming snow in every direction, making visibility low.
Corporal Hank Adams and his team of two other snipers dangerously scaled the mountains above the fight. There they clung to the rocky wall on a 9 inch ledge as snow and wind battered them, begging them to fall into the chaos below. Luckily the weather also contributed to their camo, because if they were spotted they'd be an easy target practice for the Slants to pick off.
The men inched their way along the side of the mountain, slowly moving towards the Chinese side of the battle. They weren't noticed by the opposition yet they were only a mere 50 feet above the battle. Adams squinted his eyes to get a better view ahead of him and he realized the ledge was widening into a nice platform, big enough for his team to move around and take position in. He looked back at the worried faces of the two other men and motioned his hand forward. They nodded, he could see the fear in their eyes.
Soon they reached the platform and the men threw themselves against the snow covered floor, relieved that they had made it without falling. "Take position!" Adams yelled over the sound of the wind to the ears of his team. They complied by readying their snipers and clearing the scopes of any frost. From where they lie, you could see the whole right side of the Chinese soldiers exposed. The Chinese carried on seeking cover behind rocks slowly being chipped away by bullets. The men got a good view on about 15 Chinese locked in a stalemate with their American adversary.
"Take aim! We each get 5 men, the first one to get a headshot will have a nice steak waiting for them back at the bunker." Adams said. Nothing wrong with a little fib to get your men going, he thought. Adams then got himself ready to fire upon the Slopeheads. "Fire!"
Pow! One man down. Bam! Two men down! Pow! Three men down! Three men down before the Chinese noticed its not coming from the frontal assault. They frantically looked around and tried to rethink their cover strategy, but not fast enough. Pow! One more down, the snow was now stained with blood on the Chinese side.
Braka braka braka! Bullets passed over the heads of the three snipers.
"[censored]! Okay, crawl slowly back from the ledge, the don't have an angle on us." Hank yelled as more bullets whizzed by. The sniper to his left followed orders. The trigger happy private
on the left did not.
Pow! "Hell yeah, moo goo gai pan this ass hole!"
"Jimmy! No!" hank scrambled to Jimmy and managed to grab his ankle, trying to pull him back. This caused him to look up and turn his head towards Hank, away from his scope.
"I got thi-!" Braka Braka! Jimmy's sentenced was interrupted by the Chinese bullet that ripped through his jaw, and another bullet that finished him, tearing through his helmet and skull.
Jimmy went limp and dropped his rifle from his hands, leaving it to bounce and bang down the mountain.
"[censored]!" Hank rolled back to the wall away from danger. Braka braka brak brak! More bullets whizzed over, but coming nowhere close to the two soldiers.
"What now sir?" asked the remaining sniper named Carl.
"We find a way out. Hopefully we gave our men enough time to overwhelm the remaining 10 Chinese." No more bullets were fired in there direction. But the sounds of rifles were still apparent in the valley below.
The two men once again peaked there heads over the ledge. The Chinese were now paying full attention to what was before them. The Americans had pushed forward though, and slowly beginning to overwhelm them. Yet more Chinese poured out of the bunker.
"We'll be here forever if this carries on." Hank impatiently said. "I have an idea. Do you have any grenades?"
"Two."
"Good, same here, now its not in m best interest to expose us to them for a split second, but were gonna have to scramble their ranks."
"I hear ya."
"You throw a grenade and I'll pick one off, then we will retreat to the wall, wait, and repeat."
"Sounds good."
Hank readied his rifle. "Get ready? Go!"
Click! Carl pulled the pin and threw the grenade, then he sprawled back down against the rock. Boom! Pow! It worked, the grenade injured two men and Hank managed to kill one. But they didn't go unopposed. Braka brak brak brak braka!
"Okay new plan, lets smoke them out, well both throw our smoke grenades at them giving our men the time to surround them. We might as well lob some grenades in there for fun and confusion."
"I like the way you think Adams."
The two waited a few moments before carrying out this plan. They both lobbed the smoke grenades over the ledge and in a few seconds they looked up to see thick black smoke covering the Chinese bunker. They then lobbed the remaining grenades and heard cries and screams from the Chinese. The team of two could see the Americans sweep over and gun down the remaining Chinese. An American looked over to their position, waved and gave a thumbs up.
"Good work. That will be enough for today, lets figure out something to do about Jimmy before we can meet up with the rest of them."
