Retaliation Map Pack Impressions (They're AWESOME!)

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 4:54 am

Well, I got 'em. and I did a runthrough to explore them in a private match by myself. I just couldn't stop going "wow, this is impressive." Very stunning looking maps, with a lot of real estate to work with.

I hopped into matchmaking, which, for those wondering, does have a seperate playlist for those wanting to just play those. I played one game on Shipyard and I was simply blown away. THIS is how you make an MP map for Crysis. I can see that map being my favorite overall in the end. Have not played the rest in matches yet, but will get to that when I play later. They're keyed up high on the Team Instant Action rotation as well, for those wondering. Goes Skyline/Terminal, then straight into the new maps.

So yeah, you guys should definitely pick the map pack up because they are easily the best in the game as far as I'm concerned, and I need more people to shoot! :D

Thanks for your impressions - think I will get the map pack as well tonite. You might see my on, but you probably wish you didn't lol :D
Haha, nice. We shall see!

By the way, these are NOT ripped straight out of single player. You can tell where from single player they derived from, and perhaps one set building that is mostly the same from that part, but the rest of the map is VASTLY different. I heard some guys on the PC forum say they could just "snip these out of campaign when the cryengine editor is released", but it wouldn't be anywhere near the same map.

I don't really think it's a negative that the maps are based on some of the SP locations. Who cares? The devs make some changes so that they're a bit different, but overall I personally feel that it gives the game a feeling of continuity. Makes it seem more real to me- like the SP and MP are taking place in the same realm.

I like it.

I got to play one match this morning before work- it was on Park Ave., and I have to say I was very impressed. The verticality is awesome, lots of hiding places, and a surprisingly good mix of open and tight spaces. Some great long sight lines, and some enclosed spaces where I felt like I was holding my breath as I was turning around the corners. Good stuff, Crytek! can't wait to play the other maps tonight!

(I did have some bad lag, however- during my match I had a single red bar. so that svckED- but c'mon. It was still fun. and I'm sure that when the new patch comes out and more people get the pack, the better the connections will get)

Gotta agree with mYphist0. It′s gone from bad to worst.
I′m Austrian and right now all of my enemies are japanese. This can′t be what you guys understand of improvement, did they now merge those server. Do I have to play with a red connection the rest of my (in that case very short) crysis life.

I have to say if it stays like that, I will have to quit, because this is unbearable.

I know its no excuse but i'm not surprised Australians lag. Unless he's playing people in he's own region which I doubt. Its P2P he's going to lag. I dont think i've played any game were Australians didn't report bad lag on certain games.

No disrespect, but hearing that an Australian/Japanese player was lagging on a P2P game would not put me off buying DLC.

Um I'm Australian, you might want to look at his location again. It for some reason is a completely different country.

And as this game is P2P when I play other Aussies please explain why many of us even if we have 3 bars, still lag incredibly bad and most of us are on ADSL2+ connections?
A full server of Aussies all 3 bars 4 for host, and I still have the problem of other players not being where I am shooting despite what my screen is telling me. (even when I am host)

No disrespect, but an Australian/Australian lagging on a P2P game is pretty effin bad IMO.

And most Aussies complain about games with dedicated servers that are in the Northern Hemisphere, meaning we get a high ping, or P2P games like Crysis 2 that seems to pick someone in the U.S for host regardless of how many locals are in the game. Sort of makes sense after paying more than twice the price of our northern friends for a game, we'd be a bit pissed at the below average support we get.

With over 1 million xbox owners, and how much we pay, it'd be nice not to be treated as 3rd world citizens by the gaming community.

Its negative and Bad. Why then 800points? This pack could be free.... I can take all SP Maps, put some barriers in and release it. Thats work for about an half hour.... Srsly.

Is there a Title Update before you can use the DLC? Is there? Please let there be. Like a 15 MB TU. That will fix things... Darn. I don't know. I don't really have anything else to do with my MPoints, but I really don't want to just throw them away...

Maybe some of you can post some more impressions, concerning lag and other things, too... Please?

I went on Crysis 2 last night and it still lagged absolutely terribly.

I won't be buying the DLC as Crytek still haven't patched the game and still haven't given us proper Network Coding.

Why don't you just go away? You just cause problems wherever you go.

Agreed.

And the guy has the audacity to call me a troll because I have an opinion.

Love it.
