retexturing in GIMP

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 5:50 pm

I've followed many different retexturing tutorials that have all worked for my needs, however I've encountered a problem. I have been unable to find a tutorial on how to make black textured items into a lighter color, only colored textures to different colors. I was wondering if anyone could help me out by telling me how to retexture something from a black texture or point me in the direction of a tutorial which does. thanks

Hmmmm I'm not sure what your asking here, a black textured object should be the same as a multi-colored one just so long as they both Have a texture. If the object does Not have a texture, then you need to either add a material layer in a 3D program like Blender, 3DSmax or Maya, or use Nifskope to paste a texture branch and material from another model that does, and customize the texture it loads from there. I'm not sure of any specific tutorials that teaches this in Nifskope, but the Blender/Gimp tutorial Artisten and I did does cover changing the texture of a model in Nifskope and general Nifskope navigation if you need. Materials are also covered in the Blender side of the tutorial.

Luck,

ah, sorry if i wasnt clear. i meant a darker textures, such as something that is mostly black like the body of certain rifles. messing with the hue doesn't change the color of the rifle though, only anything not blackish.

I had a similar problem when I started working on my darker sunglasses mod: Editing the textures did not change the appearence of the sunglasses. I think you may have to take a look at the nif file?

You need to adjust your RGB levels, not just the Hue and Saturation. Black is simply another colour that has values of 0 for all 3, or at least leaning towards 0. On the opposite end, White has values of 255 for all 3.
