Return of Mythical Weapons/Armour

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 7:07 pm

Remember in Morrowind where you read a book and it tells you about all the treasures you can get, then you try and find the treasures which would be some of the most beneficial weapons/armor in the game. I would like to see a return of magic items, it will add a bit of realism to the game and emphasis on roleplaying.

YES.
I would. Thank you for a thread that poses a realistic question!

Here's your award: |==========>

Thats a trophy, I'm not a graphical designer by any stretch.

I think that this aspect of Morrowind was SORELY missing from Oblivion, and one which I missed quiet substantially.

I never played Morrowind, but in Baldur's Gate 2, and Diablo 2, the most exciting thing was to hear about an enchanted item, or a magical one. Then, you go and finally find it, or its parts/complete the set, and you have a painful piece of history. I missed that in Oblivion. No "unique" weapons. I believe they said that you will be able to get more hand placed, unique stuff (correct me if Im wrong, It might have been in the readme for OOO that I mistook for Skyrim).

Actually you got a few unique weapons in OB if you did some of the Daedric shrines.

i agree. In oblivion i know a few unique weapons e.g. umbra. but none of them were really a quest to get that specific weapon, they were just a reward you got which so happened to be a good weapon.

what i would like is more of a detective quest. for example i maybe hear a conversation about an artefact, or weapon. and then i can ask around about that rumour. And that might lead me to a book, where i can read about it, the background of it. ... and so forth (you get my point). it would attach a sentimental value to the artefact. that could get me to save the trinket a long time even though i've already found a better one. it would be much more fun.
A full deadric armour set should not be easily obtained.

though if the weapon is not as good as it claimed it would be pretty annoying. sort of anti-climatic

Unique weapons should be a no brainer. I hope Bethesda actually makes them totally unique and not a reskin of an existing sword.

i think it'd be cool to have unique weapons not be a quest, but instead part of the lore of skyrim. for example reading a book that talks about a cave way high up on top of a mountain that has an awesome sword in it. but it never is an official quest, and never guides you directly to it.

EDIT: @Nigidius the Needy, i swear i didn't know you said the same thing, my bad lol.

If you are talking about Morrowind's way of making you go on a Excalibur esque quest (which is not an actual quest) to get this magic item you heard about, then yes.

I bought Diablo 2 a week ago and it's like crack cocaine. It and Borderlands are almost impossible to stop playing.

I feel there was not enough of it in Oblivion, I wanted to go treasure hunting that was not part of a quest. I dont just want Umbra or some other abnormal artifacts, I want real legendary weaponry and mythical items. An other nice touch would be if you have an item that was mentioned in a rumour the person would compliment you.

What? Umbra, Goldbrand, The Mace of Molag Bal, Volendrung, Ebony Blade, Spell Breaker, The Cuirass of the Savior's Hide- these are all legendary weaponry and "mythical" items from the Elder Scrolls games.

Those are daedric artifacts, not "unique" weapons. You get them as a reward for a service to a god like being.

He probably means family heirlooms and the like you can find by robbing graves. The "sword of King Something the Forgotten". The "Nutcracker" mace.

"Oh look, that random bandit has full daedric armor. So does that bandit...dear God..."
BSG should really make the higher tier armors and weapons harder to obtain. In OB i had full daedric armor as soon as I saw my first Marauder at level 22.

2. having no like or equal; unparalleled; incomparable:
Bach was unique in his handling of counterpoint.
3. limited in occurrence to a given class, situation, or area: a species unique to australia.

You get them as a reward for a service to a god like being.

Yep. And they're also listed in a book in the game:

Oh. I thought he meant like the ones that are listed in a book like in Morrowind. Y'know, that http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Tamrielic_Lore and a bunch of other unique items?

A lot of people don't know it, but almost all the artifacts in Morrowind were part of quests too.

Chrysamere and the Lord's Mail were part of the Imperial Legion.

Boots of the Apostle, Ring of the Wind, Ice Blade of the Monarch and Skull Crusher were part of the Imperial Cult.

Ebony Mail was part of the Tempel, as was Veloth's Judgement, some people consider that a unique weapon. I don't.

Artifacts not directly tied to a quest, which includes "Unamed ones" like "Plundering the Treasure of Divayth Fyr".

Fists of Rangdagulf. Ring of Physaster, Mentor's Ring, Denstagmer's Ring, Fang of Haynekhtnamet, Eleidon's Ward, Auriel's Shield(Debatable, Bow is hinted, but never shield) Ten Pace Boots and the Dragonbone Cuirass.

More than anything, I Just think they need to throw in a lot more artifacts, so few are linked to quests in a manner that stops them from being recovered without being on said quest. The Daedric Artifacts (Mehrunes Razor sort-of excluded) were given in the same manner as in Oblivion, but there was just so many more to discover, it was kind of insulting, especially considering how much bigger Cyrodiil was than Vvardenfell.

I would like a weapon quest where someone would give you a link to someone then they would say look in a cave u find a link there then eventually find the place and fight a boss that is powerfull not like in oblivion where you walked into he grey mare at level 1 did a quest that meant killin 4 goblins then gettin an enchanted sword we want 3 hour quests that give us truly unique swords with unique effects such as stark reality (a daedric spell) that stripped the foe of their armor and deposited them in a chest or perhaps swords (or other weapons )that require certain stats to use such as 70 one-handed or 40 destruction just SOMETHING WE HAVE TO FIGHT FOR not ohh you killed 5 scamps we will give the Uber Mudcrab blade that does 9999999 damage (some1 did mod that weapon it was so fun) or even hide clues in various places there was a quest that you had to find small speck of white that was a letter and led you to a great set of armor so SOME DIFFUCULTY
