As your taking your time swinging your huge claymore Umbra, I've already stabbed you in the heart with my long sword Umbra and blasting you with a 900 damage fire/ice/lightning(I know it's not lightning but I think it should be called that hehe) spell.

I think Umbra should be a swift dagger made from the pieces of the Oblivion long sword that had been shattered by some unruly force in the 200 years between titles. A crafty Nord smith forged some of the remaining pieces into a small dagger blade...

I dunno, mixing it up I guess.

I would like to see it go back to a claymore seeing it was just one handed. I don't even know why they changed it from a claymore to a one handed sword.

how about you choose what it becomes when you get it or a quest in which your decisions shape the eventual out come of the weapon?

Also it should produce a cold black smock that slowly falls on account of it being a soul drinking weapon.

you should add a Other option

Corrected :bunny:

@w2drs21: Why do people have this fascination with lich liches. Seems like people just want to play as and against lich liches the entire game. "The Elder Scrolls: Lich" would be the next game if you people were in charge of Bethesda.

Corrected :bunny:

Pretty annoying huh.

They liked it better as a longsword. The same goes for Goldbrand, it wasn't a short sword in Morrowind but it was in Oblivion. Plus, now that Umbra, the sword has shown up in IC as a longsword, I think it's pretty much set it in stone that it is a long sword. I just made the poll to see which decision people agreed with more.

Edit: Can we have the grammar police not be on the forums, let alone in my thread.... People make mistakes when typing, it's not because they are ignorant, it's because they are human and they make mistakes. It is always easier to see the mistakes from a different perspective other than the person typing it. So please don't be rude to those people, they only made a mistake here or there, now I would understand if their entire sentence was barely coherent or recognizable.

I could care less if classes are removed, I only ever made custom classes anyhow lol. My main character is always a spellblade, which is even more viable than ever with skyrim. Umbra in my right hand and lightning coming off my left hand.

I liked it as a two handed menacing Weapon of doom. But I never Used it In oblivion so I don't think it was as menacing? I don't know. I think We should Be Able to use it as either or. I mean I have a single Handed Long sword ( Display) When I swing the Thing I use two hands sometime, and sometimes one, Why not have the character Actively Changing up his(her) Grip? Like a chop use two hands, a stab use one? I don't care, If its in the game honestly I probably won't use it. I never really liked using "Ultimate" Weapons in games.
In morrowind I always sold it to the museum.

This thread has come to show how just diverse the community is. I mean, 50/50 between one-hand and two-hand. That is beautiful.

2 handed sword. Umbra + Shield, just doesnt feel right. And besides, having it a 2 handed sword will keep people from dual wielding Umbra and some other incredibly powerful weapon. I think for balance purposes at least, it should be a 2 handed.

One handed.
It was a one handed weapon in Oblivion, lets just keep it that way.

Claymore. Two-handed all the way, we got things like Ebony Blade and Goldbrand for the one-handed sword crowd. ;)

Just to add a little bit, I′m gonna play through Skyrim with a 1 handed mace, that′s right I am leveling up my 1 handed skill and not my 2 handed skill but I still want Umbra to be a 2 handed weapon, Umbra is a weapon of destruction, it inflicts damage like no other, it should never even have made it as a 1 handed sword in Oblivion since it ended up dealing less damage than many non-legendary 2handed swords and basically it was "weak" umbra is not weak, and it can′t be wielded with only 1 arm, it′s deserving of two arm and the highest damage a sword can have, as a 2hander.

Umbra really need to be a 2hander.

It seems as the TES series goes Umbra becomes smaller. In Morrowind it was a large two handed blade, in Oblivion it was a smaller one handed blade. So in Skyrim I think it should be a dagger :P

where is the not at all option.

I never liked Umbra...

soul trap fora few seconds.

my sould reaver daedric claymore could do it for a few seconds longer with health and fatigue absormbtion as well.

Nice blade it was, for both Oblivion and Morrowind. and in Skyrim, my Nord warrior will wield the weapon with leathal actions

I liked the umbra from Oblivion, Morrowind's was not really that great imo. it looked to much like another sword and I liked that OB Umbra looked completly different from the rest of the swords.

I hope this discussion doesn't mean that Skyrim will only be recycling the old Unique weapons instead of adding some new ones. (I would like the ones from Oblivion included + new ones is what I mean)

Well they made Umbra have way higher base damage than any other weapon but they should've been it a little stronger to over come the daedric longsword with an enchantment. I modded Umbra to have a little higher base damage and damage health. That's how Umbra should be. I think they should use a similar model of what they did in Oblivion for Skyrim if it's a longsword, mainly the blade texture, it was sweet. It had a cool design with what looked like a dark eclipse at the end of the blade. Very nice looking. The hilt needed better texturing in Oblivion, it looked like a texture from Morrowind

As I said, never liked it.

soul trap by itself for only one or two seconds = not entirely good.... not bad either....

just my claymore did a better job of being able to deal out more damage and kill far faster.....
