Return to Vault 101?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 11:19 am

Alright, I'm not that great of a modder since I haven't picked up the GECK for anything recently. I'm asking the Modders of the world to maybe consider this idea for a new mod.

K, lets start this.
Vault 101 was mostly tossed aside after 2 quests outside. Then Trouble on the Homefront happens where you return to the vault. Then Amata kicks you out for no single defined reason.
You can see what I'm getting at. I'm asking the modders to do a vault 101 quest line that deals with anything after the vault starts to go outside. Probably trading or raider attacks. Maybe a nice little war like the Enclave vs. Brotherhood at the end.

I actually have a personal project that does this.

It opens Vault 101 after you complete Trouble on Homefront by making Amata overseer. You also need to have completed American Dream.

The vault is fully reconstructed and some new areas are added.

I have not released it many NPCs don't have daily routines. They just patrol the vault.

I would love to see a mod that does this. I was shocked to find out that you only get to see Amata and the vault one more time for a quest. I would've thought they would play a bigger part in the game. It feels like Bethesda just brushed them aside.

Yeah. In fact, I'm putting up ideas, quests, and concepts for a Return to Vault 101. Amata's new dialogue, some new people, and obviously new quests.

The concept is very loosely based off of one of Amata's quotes. "It's a bright new day for the vault."
What svcks is that I don't know much about dialogue trees, getting new people for a complete sandbox so they wander without looking like a sculpture.

But a much better modder with better resources other than just the GECK should be able to do much better. Considering I'm horrible with world design.

After you get the NPCs to sandbox properly, you might consider just keeping the quests simple at first just to open up the vault::

--like the outcasts or Winthrop they have a need for some "product" or trade good and your character provides it in exchange for some vault 101 item useful to the character. This would provide a reason to visit now and then, the vault would be open with minimal effort.

I'm trying to make a decent "relationship" with Amata or Butch....depending on male or female Lone Wanderer. Yeah, that will be my first quests. Then I would be making the quests more complex, such as a scuffle with Tenpenny tower or having Brotherhood of Steel meets. I need to know how to do all that though. Thats why im saying, the good modders need to mod.

If you want I can help set up the daily routines for the NPC's if that's all you need to get it released, it's fairly simple and quick to do.

I could make all the new dialogue if you want. Maybe set up a couple new quests.

I might upload it in Nexus as modder's tool, although it needs a bit to finish it.

Some things included:
- Script to open up the Vault (not tested)
- Repopulated with generic and made-up named NPCs
- Re-inserted currently living NPCs (Brotch, Amata, Christine Kendall)
- Expanded the vault a bit
- Created a small trade outpost outside the vault.

If you've got the world space mostly done and are willing to load it as a resource I'd love to take a peak at it and see what I can do. Creating and detailing world space and cells are by far my weakest area and if that's knocked out I should be able to polish her up. :liplick:
