Returning, need help Please :)

What melonn said. The addons I would not mess with if using the full version. The readme has specifics on each addon and when it should be used.

Be carefull moving the omods and omod directory. I once deleted an omod and OBMM uninstalled it when I next ran OBMM. But it should be safe if it allows you to do it :)

Thanks guys, yeah it does allow you to move them to any folder you like actually, as long as there is enough room so i'll put it with the rest of obmm stuff at my install path in the oblivion folder, which should stop me accidentaly deleting them, etc.

Looks like a good start. Play with that for a bit to make sure it is stable and then look for mods. There is everything you can think of (even bikini armor if you can believe it :) ) so when you search look for what you want. When I am on tesnexus I browse categories, find the category I want, sort by downloads descending (get the most downloaded mods first in the list) and see what is there. Also tesnexus has top rated mods list which is a good place to look.

Consider using wrye bash in future.

On load order, the citadel door fix and vampire aging fix I would get rid of. Never noticed a citadel problem and never played vampire (but if you do then you may want to keep that). Wrye bash has these two fixes that can be imported into bashed patch so that is good. The fewer esp files the better seems to be the new thought.

If all is well with game consider adding Unique Landscapes, it makes the world nicer (look for patches with that as Kvatch rebuilt needs one). Try adding MMM for OOO to make it even more interesting. Redo interface with Darnified UI or Darn Dark ui. Glenvar is the best IMO plaer house and the quests are pretty good. Use the bank, the intrest adds up :)

The lost spires is a VERY GOOD quest mod, one of the best.

Cool thanks for your advice and help Peter ID, im only lvl 5 atm so have yet to experience features of OOO and other mods, etc, had a few test runs and all seems stable, im on about medium settings and all is quite smooth, out of interest though how do you get your fps rate up in game?

I guess the mods you should look for depends on the particular tastes of the user. I personally think i use too many, but I find myself not being able to remove them. Not because of some uninstall process but because they all feel like a part of "my" world.

But if I were to recommend any one mod (in well over 400 mods and text replacers that I use) for gameplay, it would have to be Enhanced Hotkeys. I think this one is a game changer. Authored by the same modder that created the Enhanced Economy mod that this thread dealt with, TheNiceOne. (Actually I use quite a bit of his mods.)

That being said, I agree with Unique Landscapes in mass, although I pick and choose them randomly and switch them around quite often. Also Better Cities and All Natural Weather with the Real Lights plugin kind of makes everything a bit... bigger, i think.

Good luck out there and here's to closing that first gate! (You always remember the first one!) :)

yes you do :) i know what you mean about using two many and thats how i dont want to get like, i want to use some texture mods like better citties, etc but i dont think my pc will handle it unless i turn settings down even more which will probably be quite pointless in then getting a texture mod, although i could try it and see what it does to my game, then if it significantly decreases peformance then i can always uninstall.

FPS question is subjective. What are your FPS rates like right now? Oblivion Stutter Remover, Streamline (for the streamsave and streampurge functions only), Oblivion Crash Prevention System will all help with stability and stutter.

If you get ganged up by a bunch of NPCs (in OOO likely) you will slow down and not much you can do about it. Textures will slow down if highest quality like QTP3 and Better cities will impact you a bit too.

If you really want to see some nice textures get the Vibrant textures by Corpec. No VRAM increase, they are the same size as vanilla, but make the game look way better IMO. There is an update to them so look through the vibrant thread

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1106036-wiprelz-vibrant-distant-lod-vibrant-textures-enhancements-vibrant-weather-wiprelz/

As for adding mods, it took me years, but now I only add a mod I will use. I used to load all the mods I wanted to play into my game and never saw 75% of them, just made my game unstable (try cleaning them all). So play the game, then if you want something, add it and play for a while. You ensure a continued stable game and easy to find problems as you do not add a bunch off stuff at once.

All Natural is nice as is Real Lights that is included but get a handle on the FPS question first.

What I do recommend right off the start is AWLS, no performance hit, and it it beautiful to look at during the night. Get that.

Try Cava Obscura to darken caves inside. Map Marker Overhaul no performance hit. Dynamic Map. Always look at mod requirements (some need OBSE plugins).

Google "Oblivion Console commands" for other things you can display, like VRAM usage.

right got some info for you guys,

fps inside: average 27
highest 37
lowest 19

fps outside: average 15
highest 26
lowest 11

in inventory: about 60

texture memory usage: 220 mb (outside) wasn't looking at this one much

1. So if i use oblvion stutter remover, will it decrease quality but increase performance?

2. would you recommend it? I dont mind playing like this as its fairly smooth and only gets a bit jumpy when in a big battle.

3. also what does anti aliasing do? ive got it on x2 but dont know weather i need it or not

4. Btw are these fps's good for a 256mb GPU on medium settings in game with a 1280 - 800 resolution?

Nope, it will increase performance without decreasing quality at all :)

Yes, it is highly recommended.

Antialising makes tagged edges smooth. If you turn it off, you may notice that the player's sword (and other items) are kind of tagged along the edges. Antialising makes the edges smoother at the cost of GPU speed. Personally I think at least a low level of antialising is well worth the FPS reduction.

I echo The NiceOnes's reply :)

Don't obsess on fps. If it looks good to you what does it matter what fps is? For a 256MB video card that is good I think. I don't get that on a 1GB card :)

And yes, textures are a killer that is why Vibrant textures are the way to go.

I'm with these guys. FPS is a frame of mind. Situations I get 15, and some I get 30 or 40.

And speaking of some Frame rate, Peter if your still watching this thread, talk to me a bit about those Vibrant textures. Are those Core's? I'm using QTP3 reduced and I would be lying if I said I dont take a nice sized hit on FPS. However, I would think I can't live without them. Are they comparable? Do i need the whole shabang? I see weather and DistantLOD there too.

You have me intrigued. Swapping them around with Wrye Bash wouldn't kill me.

Help me out. Point me to some stuff. Thanks.

(Didn't mean to hijaak the thread, folks, just curious.)

I used QTP3 for two years, could not live without them either. Looked at vibrant textures (yes, by Corpec) and thought they looked fuzzy, not my thing. But a few months back I figured why not, I gave it a try. Now they are all I use. My vram is around 400MB. The caves and chests in caves look creepy, I have to say it is like a whole new world. Many people rave about them and I am one. But it may be a case of you either like them or don't like them, not sure about a middle ground. The only thing I overwrite them with is Koldorns strong noise replacer.

As you are using BAIN give them a shot for a few hours. You might be surprised :)

Don't forget to get the 1.6 update (find it in the thread) as it is not on tesnexus.

thanks for your responses guys and understood, i'll probably install stutter remover and leave it at that. But one thing what is VRAM? how do you get it up or is it that textures memory, which i said mine was about 220mb in game. And vibrant textures, is that for high end specs? or can i use it? im guessing it increases texture quality without decreasing performance?

and hawk kelly, no problem im curious aswell now ;)

VRAM is video memory on your graphics card. If you show your game is using 400MB vram and you have a 256MB video card then you know there is memory swapping going on for the overhead. The goal is to keep vram usage (that is all the textures and such loaded into video memory) below what your video card has but that is sometimes impossible. If the game runs find you don't need to mess with it :)

Vibrant textures are same size as vanilla. Improve quality with same vram usage as vanilla.

1. I have been looking at vibrant textures and noticed a lot of files, is the vibrant architectures good? as its in omod with options.

2. Also, just tried installing stutter remover but haven't noticed any immediate difference, does it build up sort of thing to work? will it hurt leaving it installed?
btw i just copied all files that came with the file into my obse/plugins folder, is this right?

If you do decide to use Vibrant Textures (or Mtgr Textures, which are different, but also no more demanding that vanilla), I suggest combining them with "Bomret's Detailed Normal Maps for Vanilla". Despite the name, they're fine with Vibrant Textures - good, actually - and should also be fine with Mtgr (which are, if anything, even closer to vanilla, I believe).

Again, no performance hit - the normals in that pack are the same size as vanilla, but look more, well, detailed. It's true. :)

For some comparisons, http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/totoworld.html has some - just scroll down to "Bomret's Detailed Normal Maps for Vanilla". Also a few other things there, though many are hi res, so more taxing for your PC hardware. Also, the page hasn't been updated for ages. But there's still some great info there.

You should download the full OSR version OSR_4-1
By default the bReplaceheap is turned off in the ini so you need to activate it:
Master = {
_comment = You can turn on or off each distinct feature from here.
bManageFPS = 1
bHookCriticalSections = 1
bHookHashtables = 1
bReplaceHeap = 0 <---------------------set to 1
bLogToConsole = 0
bFix64Hertz = 1
bFlushLog = 1
iSchedulingResolution = 1
iMainHookPoint = 1
}

Stay away from the experimental stuff for now unless you know what you are doing. The base package works very well for me.

Read the thread and readme for specifics but try activating the bHeapReplace and see how it goes for you.

Vibrants come as OMODS except the 1.6 update I think. You can convert the omods to archives and clean up the folders for BAIN install if using BAIN. Otherwise just install the omods and follow the order in the vibrant thread I posted before. And yes, they are good :)
