Returning to the scene of the crime.

So there you are, in some building tucked away, proud your perception lead you to it. You scrounge and come upon a safe, but a lockpick skill says you need 75, yet you can't do squat because you've only got 30.

Do you return later and open the safe/door or do you forget about it?

I always forget about them. You know that lock in one of the abandoned houses in Minefield? I've yet to unlock it. I've no idea what it contains, and there are many areas in the game I've never seen because I never go back to unlock doors.

I thought about this as I was clearing out the National Archives. There are two doors requiring a lockpick of 75, but I'll never go back to check them out. What would be the point? I got what I came for.

So spill it: clean up or leave it?

I'll usually forget about it.

I keep a list of the unopened locks and go back later to open them.

I try to keep them in mind but I usually end up forgetting about them. There are a few at the beginning of the game that I've come across so often they're burned into my memory though. Like the ones in Minefield for instance.

I keep a list too, I don't write the skill level though, I am gonna hafta start that too lol. And same thing with my safehouse/stashes all over DC(I don't do it in Vegas tho which is wierd) basically ammo, spare weapon or two, food, water, booze and a few grenades, stims etc. I had to start writing them down when I started 'finding' these stashes after playing so long I had forgotten I put them there lmao!
