I prefer Umbra to be Umbra, thanks.
But this time I want a more awesome quest to it. Morrowind's was so great. Poor Umbra... I still feel for him to this very day.

eventually you would turn into a wraith.

Eeeeewwww...

perhaps involve a cure quest too.

Double eeeeeewwwwww...like the ever-present vampire and werewolf cures aren't enough.

How about since it ain't broke, we don't fix it, hmmmm?

Remember that the oblivion gates were closed permanently at the end of Oblivion. I am fairly sure that the current Umbra tossed the sword into a closing oblivion gate.

the gates were all closed, but it possible to travel back to the realms of Oblivion

and why would it turn you into a wraith?

Well isn't the wielder of Umbra supposed to become Umbra? That's how it came across in Morrowind and Oblivion when I found the sword randomly. The user always seemed to be consumed by the dangerous power of the sword itself. Assuming the sword has such parasitic consequences, I would like to see the sword consuming the player somehow. Kind of like how when the player became addicted to that one substance in Shivering Isles and had to consume it if they wanted to live.

@ShampooLord - You can more or less count on it being in the game. Umbra always comes back in TES.

It was more like the Cowl of Nocturnal, the user became that, the Gray Fox or Umbra, and the rest of them was wiped from history.

As long as it's given a weight, I don't care much. Maybe accumulate kills with it and lower your appearance or something, dunno, not that important.
