Wow! These reviews are awful. I think it's time for new blood to do the reviews for these type of "experimental" FPS. I mean, because their isn't a team death-match you're not going to have an open-mind?

Wow.
IGN gave it a 6.

Oh well... I'm still picking it up myself. And I will enjoy it!

6? Very disappointing.

The IGN crowd suffers from realism issues. The more a game tries to be realistic the more praise it receives. Brinks art style is an acquired taste as well. Lesson being never let the operation flash point fan review a game like brink.

I'm baffled by IGN's review. The negates are:

1. Repetitive gameplay
2. Limited maps
3. Poor progression

???? This describes every single FPS ever made.

just watched the ign one and i have to say thats the first time i dont agree with what they were saying, i mean look at team fortress 2 they have what 8 levels? all of the with like 2 different types of gameplay? and it still has a huge following! i still play it! I have a feeling this is going to be a cult game that makes it huge from people like us who knows what to expect and love these types of games.

They also killed the graphics and sound. The presentation is that bad?

w00d6,you are absolutely right.Brink, like it or not, will be a 'huge' cult game.It will only be liked by few groups, not the wider audience.

That G4 [censored] needs to understand grenades are not meant to kill in one hit. Your not a multiclass master in this game there are more then two chracter slots for a reason ya [censored] monkey. Good lord has call of duty made people stupid or something.

I gotta admit, after reading and seeing those reviews, I feel kind of sick. But on the other hand, the gameplay footage in one of the reviews also got me excited again.
I don't know. My greatest fear is that I'll have this awesome SMART ability, but won't have anywhere to effectively use it (or originally use it) because all of the objectives make for a relatively limited number of viable paths to follow.

I like team based games, and have felt frustrated with the success of CoD's mindless shoot-em-up format, but one thing that that style DOES give is freedom to do pretty much whatever you want. It would be sad if Brink's team based orientation is its destroyer instead of its saviour.

Also, I am quite concerned about the "difficult single player" mode, and the idea that you will have to do most of the work as your AI teammates are apparently rather useless

Other than a few really big name reviewers (IGN, 1UP, Joystiq, G4tv) the reviews have been pretty positive. I'm not at all deterred by the few poor ones i've read because their negative points don't really make much sense.

Yea, a lot of these reviews have been trying to compare Brink to CoD. It doesn't matter how much Splash Damage emphasizes that this is NOT like CoD. Reviews seem to think that just because it's a first person shooter, it must adhere to previously set formulas or it's doomed to failure.

Not digging the reviews these sites are giving Brink. Brink brings so much more to the table compared to the Call of Duty's and Battlefields. I feel certain Team Fortress 2, Battlefield and a touch of Mirror's Edge elements are influenced Brink which in my opinion is a recipe for pure win. Can't wait until tomorrow!

The sad thing is that the majority of gamers listen to these reviews and that's how they decide what game to buy.

Agreed, many of the reviewers were judging harshly based off playing with bots as well. And to be perfectly honest no game is fun to play against bots, even the almighty COD.

Ahh... IGN, you're such a an expletive website. I'm pretty sure IGN is the website that criticized BFBC2 because the matches ended abruptly once a team one. The commenters where like "WTF, mate? The matches end when somebody wins? That is a negative aspect!?" IGN actually removed the sentence from the review. Apparently, there isn't enough COD in this game (I'm not bashing COD, everybody has their preferred playing style).

I don't believe a single word of these scathing reviews. The fact is that people on these forums are reporting positive impressions of the game, and YouTube uploaders are also enjoying this title. I'd rather trust the gamers who want a meaningful experience, than the journalist who are more focused on maintaining the industry status quo.

A familiar class-based, objective-based multiplayer shooter that is immensely rewarding when played online with others.
Uppers
Bursting with style
Tactical, gratifying gameplay
S.M.A.R.T adds a fresh twist to shooting
Downers
Lackluster story
Unfairly difficult solo campaign
A lot of borrowed and recycled ideas and mechanics

Granted, this review was an 8.0 but the downers just don't make sense to me. WHAT FPS SHOOTER OUT THERE DOESN'T HAVE THE EXACT SAME COMPLAINT? I seriously believe if it wasn't objective based this game would have got a 9.5.

I figured this would happen. most are thinkin in terms of cod and bf and not actually grasping what brink is tryin to do.... and yeah the G4 guy needs to jus play the damn pc version since thats obivously what he wanted.

Destructoid gave it a 7.5. http://www.destructoid.com/review-brink-200746.phtml

I'm fine with most of the reviews; hell, I can even understand the IGN review (probably just didn't resonate with him so much), but G4 and Joystick... G4 especially... Really? Opinions are one thing, but not even mentioning SMART... Feel like that review was a biased. Then again, most of us haven't played the game so lets not let hype get the better of us.
