I've been fawning over my discovery today of Revival, a dark lovecraftian fantasy based MMO that seeks to totally overhaul online gaming from the ground up.
No classes, open world exploration, non-instanced housing, player-driven evolving world, live acted characters voiced in realtime by professional actors (!), real economy with realtime trading through caravans and travel, no world chat, evolving story, the ability to own slaves, take part in player driven politics, and even become a king and deal with the responsibilities and consequences of ruling a kingdom.
Not to mention the expansive lore based on HP Lovecraft's writings, a realistic and eerily designed world full of mystery, made in Unreal 4.
Some cool dev interviews:

I'm honestly more psyched about this than No Man's Sky. In many ways it reminds me a lot of the original vision behind Uru (Myst Online) sharing much of the same philosophy that Rand Miller of Cyan Worlds espoused back in 2003 about persistent evolving universes. Too bad Ubisoft cancelled it. Right after that we got 10 years of WoW based gameplay. Mix in some Eve influence and you've got a sure winner.
One thing I love is that combat isn't the sole focus, in fact its only a quarter of the experience and really an option. The focus seems much more on the world building and immersion. We've reached Snowcrash's Metaverse frankly and I'm just sad it took 10 years for a dev team to have the balls to attempt a game like this. It makes sense though considering the creative director looks about my age (24 to 27). This guy sure is opinionated and doesn't mince words when it comes to MMOs.
What do you all think?
