Reviving Paarthunax

Post » Wed Mar 11, 2015 12:38 pm

Hey it's Blackiechan again.

Recently I've stumbled upon a youtube elder scrolls parody series called the senile scribbles, It's pretty funny and is based on Skyrim and a few of it's DLCs. In I think the second to last episode the dragonborn character claims to have killed Paarthunax in a previous episode but used the elder scrolls to go back in time and stop himself from killing paarthunax. I'm really torn between siding with the blade whom I must say have the best looking armour minus the helm and best looking one-handed weapon. Or keeping my side with the grey beards since Paarthunax is pretty helpful and even gave me Fire breath and 25% damage boost to my fire breath. He's a pretty cool dragon and one of the only two who are infact your allies. I just want to know if this is true, can you use the elder scroll to travel back and stop yourself from killing paarthunax without DLC.

Thanks to anyone who helps me out on this

It's impossible in vanilla, I'm afraid.

No, and I absolutely feel your pain. They're always essential NPCs.

GOD DAMMIT. thanks anyway and random question.

Why is the Dragonborn's signature look, Iron Helm-boots-Guantlets and Studded Armour with a Banded Iron shield and Steel sword. Seems strange since you won't get the full benefits from the Light armour and Heavy armour skill trees

It's really just aesthetic. Many players don't like to max out their armour anyway.

if u use the troll to giant exploit and fast healing spell you can max out your block and heavy armour even light armour in a matter of minutes. Even if you don't use the points on the armour or block skill tress you can at least use them on other more useful skill tress right?

If you have it on the PC, couldn't you just spawn another copy of Paarthunax? That way he's still 'alive' and Delphine thinks he's dead. Or you could use the console to flag the Blades unessential and just go crazy on them.

unfortunately I'm not a pro gamer, I'm more casual but I like using pro exploits like maxing out my smithing by making a crap ton of Iron dagger, my enchanting by creating tons of weak enchantments on jewellery and letting Trolls and Giants whale on me while I heal myself and block their attacks with my shield

When I get my PC man, after I know I don't need Dalphine and her little goon, I will have fun and so will Parfunax (sorry, haven't played for a couple days).

BTW, does anyone know the exact point they become "useless"? And also the console codes to make Paruphunox. (Again sorry) a follower?

For anyone concerned about Paarthurnax's welfare and playing on PC: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/18465/?

Pretty much allows you to tell the Blades "Stuff it. I'm the Dragonborn, and you schmucks are my minions. Dragon stays." and still continue their questline. It very simply and efficiently resolves one of the worst "because we said so" moments in Skyrim. Now if we could just get a mod to set Balgruuf up as High King...

Maybe you can help me with this. I've got the TPD mod installed and active according to NMM. However,

Spoiler
when I have the confrontation scene with the Blades where they demand I kill Paarthurnax, I don't get that "Stuff it!" dialog option. Am I missing something? Am I supposed to then go talk to Paarthurnax and/or the Greybeards, inform of the Blades' demands, and then go back to tell the Blades to stuff it? Or is my mod mix just hopelessly glitched in regard to TPD?

That's "grinding", not "exploiting". You are supposed to smith craptons of stuff to increase Smithing, you're not actually abusing any broken mechanics to aid yourself. :)

Pretty much after their last main story line related quest, everything after that, including the meddling with their headquarters and recruiting people is totally optional. Luckily, I'm on PC, so I don't have to bother with them and the main quest to get those sweet ass armor pieces and katana. :D

I actually never heard that one, do you have to use the gray feature or just run into it?

all heard was push the fishing rod into the well, it's on vanilla too but I think my friend said it was done on X-box so I don't know if it applies to PC or PS3, I'm going to look into it tonight with my new Orc Tank character since that's my only save that's near Riften, i'll be sure to confirm this theory

Skyrim has what? over ninety locations on the free roam map, garrunteed there are going to be like six dozen myths on the holds alone. Oh and I know of another that apparently gives you access to unlimited gold. Theres a location north of winterhold with 3 drougr skeletons that attack you upon nearing the location, one of them is carrying a Gate of Oblivion book which is worth 50gold each, apparently this drougr spawns the book every time you take it from it's inventory leave then re-enter it's inventory

Close to 350 or so actually. (These are the locations that pop up the message that reads "________________ discovered".) Adding Dawnguard and Dragonborn add @100 more.

I can't imagine the programming mechanic that would cause "it (to) spit out Deadric armour and weapons".

Over 450 locations. Man if you never fast travels that would take a long time.

There IS an upside to never fast traveling: Besides the large number of "_______ discovered" locations, there are nearly as many other Points of Interest locations as well that don't trigger that message. If you ever saw the Prima Guide map from the Legendary Edition, you would see nearly as much icon-covered map as you would normal, uneventful map. In game, it's difficult to travel for more than 2 minutes in any direction without encountering something noteworthy.

Is it possible to respawn him on PC, with the resurrect console command? I haven't tried it.

There is a way to resolve the conflict if you are on PC through the console. It is not perfect, but it does allow you to keep playing without actually killing either side.

It is:

Spoiler
setstage MQPaarthrunax 100

This will complete the kill paarthrunax quest for the blades without actually killing him.

I have not tried the mod mentioned above, but it sounds like a more satisfying resolution. I may check it out.
