He could feel items exiting his chest, water all around him. His eyes opened to see green liquid covering them, his body stripped of all clothing. What appeared to be IV needles floated all around him, a glass window infront. He couldn't see anything outside of it, other then a blinking red light.

"Now opening slumber pod." a female voice said, he looking about the case to see where it came from, but not finding a source. Suddenly, the glass infront of him seemed to split in half, one going up, the other down. He felt the water around him pour out, and then he himself being pushed out, slamming into cold ground and coughing loudly.

Please leave comments and what you think. I know its short, this is just a opening thingy. The rest of the post will be my usual size. ))

Way too short. All we found out, really, was his name was Richard Greeves.

No, it isn't too short, I found it quite intersting, like what's going to happen? Is he an android? The possibilites are endless. Who knows what could happen? We'll see...

To me it seemed like he was in cryogenic suspension, so that could be the years spent in cryo, not the physical body age.

Ding, ding! ))

Chapter One: Welcome back

Richard continued to cough, cold air greeting him. He could now see around him, many more of the pods that he was in just a few seconds ago.

"Welcome back to consciousness, Unit Four." the womans voice said once more, Richard slowly raising his head to see a large computer infront of him, many buttons visible.

"What.. what the hell is going on here!?" he said faintly, trying to push himself from the ground, but falling on his stomach in the process.

"It is recommended that you stay on the ground for a few moments, Unit Four. I will explain everything to you." the voice said with no emotion, it seeming to be all around Richard.

He raised his head to look at the monitor, it seeming to be viewing a stoplight through one of the cameras.

"In 2076, the government began collecting individuals with a certain DNA code in there body, which would allow for genetic advancement. These individuals usually did not volunteer, so the government had to find... alternate ways to gather them." the voice said, a car beggining to drive in the middle of the intersection.

Richard's hands shot to his head, him feeling a massive pain like his skull was splitting in two.

He's hackin, he's swackin, he's smackin. played in his head with a rythm to it, almost like a memory. Suddenly, a truck came into view on the monitor, coming directly toward the car, Richard noticing that there was no driver in it.

"Holy shi-" the sound of a car smashing into another banged in Richard's mind, just as the truck smashed into the car.

"This is how you were obtained, Unit Four." the womans voice said, the monitor going black.

Richard slowly looked up, "My name... what the hell is my name!"

"Accesing data. Richard S Greeves." the voice replied to Richard, who was shivering insanely.

"What the hell is this place?" Richard tried to shout, but said fairly quiet. Still, the voice replied.

"A.U.T.L. American Underground Training Labs." the voice answered, the picture of a human body coming into view on the monitor, arms stretched out and legs straight. "Here, we genetically improve the bodies of select individuals such as yourself with greater agility, strength, and mind."

"W-what? I-is this some kind of joke?" Richard replied, his arms wrapped around his body for warmth.

"We can assure you, this is no joke. May I finish?"

"Yeh, go ahead you [censored]."

"We do these in order, with each stat. First strength, then agility, along with mind. And then for every fourth patient, we try to combine them. You however, are the first, and will not be as strong as future versions."

"Future versions.. of what?" Richard growled.

"Evolved humanoids. This program was made under the belief that the Soviet Union was about to launch a full-scale attack on us with robotics technology. However, before that happened, unknown events went loose from above-ground. Eventaully, the scientist that were working on you died off of starvation, leaving me to do the work. This reduced progress massively."

"Wait, wait. What events above-ground? What do you mean died of starvation? What [censored] year is it?" Richard said, irritation in his voice. What was going on was the one question in his mind.

"I do not know. You were however, in there for two hundred years. I am about to realese you in the open world, so you may test your skills. If you ever wish to return into this lab, you may."

"What. Wait, I still dont know whats going o-"

"Now checking stats. Strength, twenty percent. Agility, one hundred percent. Mind... unknown. Please proceed to the next room!"

"What the hell! Answer my question." Richard shouted, but then let out a sigh. He recalled faintly being a repair man before the accident he beleive he was in. Robots, he learned, could be very stubborn. He slowly stood up, and began to follow the direction a red arrow now on the monitor was pointing.

You mean the enclave, right? Because the nukes fell in 2077. Other than that, I liked the story. Also, that was a pretty clever way to put some S.P.E.C.I.A.L in there, without looking like a complete jerk. Does anyone else picture this guy looking like 2-D from Gorrilaz? My mind pictures everything animated.

Actually the "stats" thing reminded my more of Fable's Strength, Agility, and Will. Or Fable 2's Strength, Skill, and Will combo.

Fixed that up. I thought it was in 2080, so I wanted to do a year before.))

Richard found himself in a much smaller room, the size of a garage. A table was layed out near the wall, a black leather jacket with a few pockets. A similiar set of pants could be seen next to them, clothes Richard found very familiar.

"Hey, what can I say? It looks fashionable."

"Looks gay Richard. Thats thats what it looks like.

Richard rubbed his head a little before beggining to put the clothes on, thankful to have something to warm him. He took notice of what appeared to be a titanium sliding door, and a tray infront of it.

"You will require a form of defence when you leave the labs." the female voice said to Richard as he walked toward the tray, now fully clothed. He took notice of two objects laying on it. Were those... guns? Magnums from the look. "These should suit one of your type perfectly. I am not aware of the events that have perspired above, only that it was critical."

Richard sighed, "My family.. what of it?"

"Chances are they most likely aged away, two new generations being born. " the voice replied, "Tell me when you wish to exit."

Richard took the two pistols, sliding them into the pockets of his jacket and looking at the door.

"Open it." he said, the doors beginning to slide apart, Richard being blinded by sunlight for the first time in two hundred years.

Chapter Two: I am Richard.

Richard stumbled out, not being able to see anything. He closed his eyes and opened them repedeatly, beggining to see brown and white blurs with a few gray objects far back.

"Dont look into the light kiddo, unless you want to be like Grandpa."

Vision began to come back to Richard, him seeing what appeared to be a massive desert. He immidietly took notice of the increase in heat and light.

"Where the hell am I?" he said to himself, his leather jacket blowing in the wind. What appeared to be a neighborhood could be seen in the distance, across the other side of a road. He began walking in its direction, noticing a green sign at the side of the road. He walked to it, reading what it said.

Now entering, Washington D.C.

"There it is everyone. D.C. This is where the millitary wants me working."

Richard let out a gasp, his eyes seeming to cast a illusion. Green hills and tree's flashed, the neighborhood suddenly coming alive with moving cars. Richard took notice of one similiar to the car in the video that got hit by the truck. And then, just as quick as the illusion started, it ended. The desert replaced the green hills, the neighborhood seeming abandoned. Something told him that he should probaly enter. As it he was... running late?

He slowly walked across the street, making sure that there would be no cars hitting him, though something told him that would no longer be a worry. He entered the Neighborhood, a sign saying Grandview visible near a stone wall.

Once again, Richard was struck by a illusion. Many children could be seen playing in the streets, while that familiar black car drove into a garage. A car that looked just like that one, other then perhaps a few scratches could be seen dorment in the garage.

A door into the actual house opened, a man stepping out and kissing a woman exiting the car who seemed to be carrying a child. Once more, the illusion ended. Richard found himself in the desert, and oddly standing right at the front door of the house.

He looked at the address.

8195, Tranquillity Lane.

What about that address was so familiar? The two people as well. The cars, hell the entire neighborhood. Richard sighed, dipping his hand in his coat pocket... and felt something metallic.

He wrapped his hand around it and pulled it out with curiousty, it making a jingle sound. He looked it over, it turning out to be a key chain with two keys connected to it. He set his fingers around one, then placed them in the keyhole of the door. He twisted the key, succesfully unlocking.

"Well..." Richard said to himself, setting his hand on the doorknob, "Lets say hi to our family." he turned the doorknob, and stepped forward.

Hmm, seems interesting. You have a few misspellings, but the way you style the story makes up for that. There's something wrong here though. I don't know what it is, but even after rereading this, it feels like something important isn't here, like I'm missing something. Oh well. I'll have to think about that for a bit.

Overall a good story.

It's an interesting idea. I'm enjoying it so far, keep it up. I hope to see more of what happens soon. Some error's grammar and spelling, but no big deal, I can look over it. :tops:

I just want to thank you all for reading and commenting on this ^^. ))

Richard opened the door, being assaulted by yet another illusion. He could hear sounds coming from a box which was created pictures. A man could be seen sitting on a couch, reading a newspaper. Richard recognised the man somehow... was that his dad?

"Ahh, Richard. Your mom is at the grocery store right now. Can you go feed your little brother his milk?" the man seemed to say to Richard, directly where he was standing. Then, the illusion ended.

The room was rather torn apart, a table in the middle destroyed. The box was crushed, and the couch burnt. Richard sighed, looking around.

"What the hell happened here." he said to himself, heading upstairs. Richard knew that his family was most likely not around anymore, aged and lived there lives. But still, he wanted to see how his home changed. He turned, entering a room he believed was his brothers. Yet, another illusion assaulted his eyes.

The walls were painted blue, with teddy bears drawn into them. There were a few jours, and many plastic boxes with toys in them. A crib rocked back and forth, Richard seeing a child in it, sleeping. His brother... Tom. He walked slowly to the moving crib, smiling. A illusion it may be, but Richard knew that Tom would of lead a good life.

The boy had always been kind, other then the constant crying. Richard remembered times when he would take the child exploring through the forest. He always opposed having his mother put Tom in a crib, but Richard did remember his mom not giving him a proper bed until five. How embarrassing that was when his mom talked about it.

Richard now found himself standing over the crib, looking down at his brothers face. And then... the illusion ended. A blanket could be seen in the crib now, rather burnt... and something was under it.

Richard backed up a little, some fear in his eyes. Then he remembered, his mother did keep his own crib in his room. Richard sighed, setting his hand on the blanket. What ever was under it, it was pretty hard. Almost as hard as something he recalled studying in his Science Class. What was it though?

Richard pulled the blanket off, and as soon as he saw what was under it, he wished he hadn't. He backed up slowly, gazing at the small skeleton. He collapsed on his knees, barfing all over the floor much fluid that the IV's had set in his body.

"No... it cant be. It's just not.. no, I must be having a nightmare." he said, tears rolling out of his eyes. His vision began to blur, the man shaking wildly as he collapsed on his side, sobbing. Why? What the hell was happening! None of it made any sense at all. Who could have the mind to kill a child?

Richard closed his eyes, shaking. And then... he passed out.

Hours later, Richard awoke to see that night had fallen. He pushed himself up, doing his best not to gaze at the skeleton of his brother. Now that he knew the fate of his family, the man did not know what to do. There was always the choice of joining them, but how much did he even know about himself? His name was Richard Greeves, his house was on Tranquility Lane, his dad worked for the military. Richard was a... what was he?

Hey Richard. Think you can help me repair some cars on tuesday. I know I cant do this job for [censored].

Richard let out a yelp, his hand going to his head. Car repairman. He knew the inside and outside of all sorts of vehicles, and thanks to his dad, tanks, jets, all sorts of things. He sighed, walking out of his brothers room, a tear rolling out of his eye.

"Alright right Richard." he said to himself, leaning against a wall and looking down the stairs, "Time to leave home..."

He entered the kitchen, where another skeleton lied. Richard tried ignoring it, going to the counter and grabbing a key-ring, six keys visible. He then turned, to where he believed the garage to be. Opening it, Richard could see a black car and a shelf full of items. There were three gas pumps, something he recalled him and his father making for the winters.

On a workbench, was a box of matches, and a box of cigars. Richard grabbed them both, then got inside the car. He tested each key out, until at last one worked. The sound of a engine beginning to run was heard for a few moments, then died down. Richard tried again, but same result. He got out of the car, going to the hood and pulling it up.

'Lets see...' He looked at the battery, which seemed very damaged. He pulled the battery out, setting it on the workbench and looking around the garage for another. After a few minutes, he found one next to a metal storage box labeled.

Dads Classified Stuff. Richard, stay out!

Richard sighed. All though he would prefer to respect his fathers last wishes, he knew that they meant nothing now. He lifted up the box, setting it in the passenger seat of the car. He then attached the battery into the car, testing it once more.

The engine could be heard trying to start, with sounds that were familiar to a wheeze.

"Come on..." Richard set, keeping the key turned as the engine continued to wheeze, "Come on... come on [censored]!" he began to shout, when suddenly a voice emitted through the car.

I dont want to set the world on fire...

Richard slammed his fist into the horn, it honking as he cheered. For once, he knew what to do in a situation after being reborn. He got out of the car, looking around the garage to see if there was anything else that could help him. Nothing, but his attention was sent to the gas valves. He let out a sigh, walking to them and pulling them both. The hissing of gas escaping could be heard.

He pulled open the garage door, then got back in the car and went in reverse, turning it so the drivers window was the facing the garage entrance. He began to roll down the window, grabbing a cigar from the box and a match from its.

He slid the match three times against his leather jacket before it lit. He then lit the cigar, setting it in his mouth before throwing the match into the garage. At that moment, all that mattered to Richard was getting out of Tranquility Lane as fast as possible.

"Aghhh." He started coughing as he drove out of the neighborhood, pulling the cigar out of his mouth and flinging it out the window. "Worse then eating [censored]!"

Richard began driving down the high way, seeing a flash of orange light emit from the neighborhood, specifically where his house was located. He let out a sigh. He did not know what the HERO program was, nor much of his past. He did not know if everyone he knew back then was still alive. But one thing he did know, one thought that ran through his mind was a great fact.

I am Richard.

Chapter Three: The monsters are due...

Richard drove for many minutes, the city of D.C. coming into view. So far, all that played from the radio was music, and only music. It got Richard wondering if he was perhaps the last living being on the face of the planet. He let out a sigh, turning off the radio so he could think to himself.

If that is the case, we are going to need to find a way to keep both, our life, and our sanity. he thought to himself, beginning to enter the city. Entire world is now our playground if so. Yet, chances are that we aren't the last human alive. What about the corporation that... that did this to me. Two hundred years, the [censored]ers made me sleep. If I ever find they still exist...

He then looked to the box on the passenger seat, letting out a sigh and slowing down the car, pulling it near a curb. Richard took notice of many ruined buildings, and cars on the street. He let out a sigh, grabbing the box and setting it on his lap.

He looked the key slot over, before pulling out one of the guns in his jacket and setting it under the slot, closing his eyes and squeezing the trigger.

A loud BANG emitted in the car, echoing throughout the street. Richard opened his eyes to find that the box was no longer sealed. He pulled the top open to see many file folders. He grabbed one randomly, opening it and pulling out a large set of papers, entitled, SPY REPORTS.

Richard began to read through them, curiousity filling his mind.

The spies in Russia and Germany say that the Union has been researching technology greatly. Reports of some new kind of android are coming in, Max. It is obvious there technology is somewhat superior to that of the Institute, but what they say about this android...

Nickoli was observing the Union test it out. They had a group of twenty prisoners of war fight it, three of them given a tank. Nickoli says that the bullets fired from the prisoners guns seemed to just spark as they hit the androids body, not even a scratch on it. The android he says, shredded them apart. Not even the tanks could destroy it. They were destroyed in a matter of seconds.

Thats not all however. Another of our spies, working in a large underground lab of the Union says that a army of androids, less powerful then the one described above, but still deadly, is being constructed. I dont know Max, from the description, these dont seem like Androids at all, but a army of machine. I want you to pass this report to head-of-research Jared Methas. See what he has to sa
y.

Richard let out a sigh, setting the paper down. Just by reading that, a lot of memories came back to him. The name of his father, what he was, and more. His father was involved in many millitary affairs, genetic research one, and other technological things. Richard never knew what went on, nor where Max really worked.

He set the file back in the box, closing it and setting his head on the wheel.

"Come on Richard... lets go." he said to himself, pressing his foot against the pedal and beginning to drive forward. It began to hit Richard the fact that Washington did not used to look like this. He remembered the city bustling with people, with many cars moving on the streets. Maggots, going about there daily lives, like ants in there underground dens.

Food. When was the last time Richard ate? Other then a bunch of IV fluids, he didn't think he bothered to grab any food at the now destroyed home that was once his. Richard began to speed up, ignoring the limit signs. Not like any police were going to pull him over now, damn pigs. Fifty miles, the highest he would go for the time being. Richard would need gas soon enough.

What he did not notice, however, was a lot of movement going on in the buildings towering above him. Giant, hulking yellow figures were moving through, weapons drawn.

"Human... meat..." one said, a large brutish looking figure gripping a massive hammer, four other figures standing infront of him, one holding a rocket launcher. "You!" he shouted, pointing at the one with the massive cannon, "Shoot transport! Dont make it go in tunnels. Stupid vermin take our meal!"

The hulking figure turned, dashing across the buildings, toward the corner where the car would be turning. It kneeled, raising its rocket launcher and flicking a button on it, a small lazer now emitting. As the car made a turn, the figure aimed the lazer toward the back right tire.

"BOOM." he shouted, squeezing the trigger and letting off a rocket, it soaring toward the car.

Richard heard a loud boom, seeing a streak of light coming toward his car.

"Oh [censored] no!" he shouted, pressing his foot against the pedal and trying to evade the rocket, only to be have the rocket slam into the ground behind his car, sending it soaring in the air.

"[censored] [censored] [censored]!" Richard said to himself, trying to regain control for at least a decent landing. As the car hit the ground, Richard felt something fall under the back of it. A tire? The car began skidding across the street, slamming into others. It began to roll as it moved forward, directly in the direction of a metro entrance. Richard squeezed his eyes shut as the car smashed into the tunnel on its roof, sliding across it.

Im going to die down here... was the only thought that ran through his head.
