Riding the Rivers

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 6:11 am

Anybody else try this, getting in a river and travelling down it until you reach the Ocean?

Lots of fun in particular the white water rapids and waterfalls. Feels like I'm in a water park. Bethesda did some serious playtesting on the rapids and waterfalls to make sure they were fun. Once we get modders to fix the flow of the rivers it will be perfect.

Personally, I started in Riften and travel by water all the way out past Windhelm. Remember to save before going over waterfalls, if you take some of them wrong you will die.

Balil the redguard likes to strip down and have a dip from time to time.

Gonna have to give this a go! I've seen some super high waterfalls that I'm not sure anyone could survive, but what the heck :)

(I've also been meaning to track where all those bodies I dumped in the river went.)

I have swam across a couple of rivers and noticed the current was moving me sideways. I never thought to just ride the river to see where it would take me.

Too bad we can't get an innertube or bellyboat....

Spoiler
There are a few log jams they probably got caught on

The water flows kinda strange in some places too, so you never know. It was the rapids and waterfall that were fun. There are a good number of waterfalls to need to stop yourself part way down before dieing. it is actually going over the tall waterfalls that is fun, smaller waterfalls are actually more fun.

Sometimes the current is flowing the wrong way. There are a few I've floated down a bit in but a lot of them are way too shallow to make serious use of.

One of the first things I did in the game was ride the rivers all the way to the north of Skyrim, where I soon got owned by a frost troll.

Good fun.

Yeah it's fun. Did it from Ivarstead down to the Eastmarch today, took like 40 seconds instead of 10 minutes walking.

I actually swam through the slow parts, ran through the shallow parts, and swam past the areas where the water was flowing in the wrong direction. I also had to walk around a couple log jams. Still fun stuff though, as I said the focus is rapids and waterfalls.

And here I was thinking no-one else loved going over waterfalls! There's one between the 7000 steps and Riften that's a particular favourite of mine. Have to get it in just the right spot or you get smashed to bits on the rocks

Sure have. It is fun, especially when you hear the roar of a waterfall approaching and you can't see how high it is. Will I live? Are there sharp rocks below? What is that nibbling on my toes? Hey! How did that salmon get in there?

Ivarstaard to windhelm just on the rivers and waterfalls = epic.

Bard's leap = 200ft waterfall dive = better than epic.

Anyone else here stumbled across the hunter camp with 3 naked (well undergarments of course) hunters just chilling by the water with all their clothes piled up near the campfire, LOL.
Can't remember exactly where it was, but was funny as heck.

haha i was just talking to my friend earlier today about how much fun it is to ride the rivers. as a player who rarely fast travels i ride the rivers to almost all of my destinations. you just have to be careful with some falls. i have gone over plenty thinking they were small to only find a 100 ft fall to the rocks below

Sounds like fun but I sure wish lakes didnt act like rivers and have current in them like a river dose.

Realistically, lakes do have currents, it's just not a lot of current. All of that water needs to flow somewhere.

Love to raft without a raft in skyrim! just be careful of the large waterfalls with rocks underneath. Good chance of dying if you land on them:P

Has anyone tried to throw a basket into the rivet and use it as a boat? :D

(I know it fails, so we need a bigger thing to ride on!)
