Rielys Rangers Or Talon Company ?

Post » Thu Jul 08, 2010 6:34 am

All the same....Reilly herself has admitted that she's lost her nerve and all she does is hang out, write her logs and bonk Butcher all day.....hmm...Butcher's a lucky guy come to think of it....

If you save everyone, talk to her a bit and do some mapping she gets her confidence back and they go back to work.

Wish I could get Talon Company to send six guys after me... I'd love to see if I could get 'em all with one shot from my Fatman! :nuke:

If Talon Cmpany had only five people in it, they'd be quickly and mercilessly slaughtered and their corpses fed to Yao Gui. They might have the quantitative edge, but the Rangers are superior. Especially Brick, my minigun-totin' wasteland gal!

Killed about nine or ten of them in the Dry Sewers tonight.

One of them was carrying a Teddy Bear. Isn't that precious?

It's funny how you call Talons evil spawn but you kill them without remorse. It's highly possible that many are just young guys who have no where else to turn. And don't even bring up the thing about them killing women and kids or whatever, that was only some of them, not all of them.

Technically, it's all of them. They all have the same AI setup.

In-game, they always start the fight. They're not too bright either.

Personally I think their both cool in their own ways. I would have to say Talon Co. is my favorite for many reason that were previously mentioned in this thread. The Rangers Battle Armor is an amazing thing to have it doesn't weigh too much, get +5AP + 1 Luck +10 small guns, but if you max ur character's special out by finding the bobbleheads after getting Almost Perfect then it doesn't serve much of a purpose. I usually use Lag-Bolt's armor for most of my characters since you get the extra 10 AP versus the RBA"s 5 granted the RBA is a little more than double the item HP as Lag-Bolt's, but i like Lag-Bolts Combat Armor over any armor in the game. I love looking like a Talon merc. Sorry for dragging my post out so long.

TALON FOR LIFE!!!

That's just game mechanics. You're not looking at it as if it had been a real thing. They don't look that old and it's obviously what they're paid to do.
And so what if they aren't bright? There aren't many people in the wasteland who are. There are no forms of education anywhere. You can't blame them for it.

The problem is the actual discussion that's going on is this: What self-created backstory do you prefer? The one you made up for Reilly's Rangers, or the one you made up for Talon Company?

Going from what Bethesda provided, there is no way to prefer the Talon Company without being a bit....off.

For me, even if some guys joined Talon Company because they needed to survive, they all appear to enjoy their work too much for me to have sympathy for them. There is never hesitation or question, they aren't willing to negotiate and they flee too easily leaving their comrades behind.

Granted, the game might force the Rangers into the same behaviour if it came to it, but all we see them doing is their stand on the rooftop and they seem to be a close knit group as well.

I'll vote Talon because slaughtering them en masse is just too much fun. Reilly's Rangers do at least have the brain's not to attack what amounts to a physical god.
Edit: at level twentyone on most recent playthrough.

Talon Company's overall goal seems to be to preserve the lawless and violent status quo in the wasteland, by eliminating the most decent and helpful people out there. These are the kind of people who could be a driving force in reestablishing civilization.

So, regardless of their otivation, they are still intent on causing death, misery, and suffering. So I have no qualms about opposing them.

one more thing to add about Reilly and her "strangers" ....they have lots of exciting stories to tell you such as "since you've been helping out we been kickin mutie ass" and so on....but has anyone actually SEEN them out there doing anything???....yes yes..aside from poor Donovan getting his ass shot up in some random encounter out in the Wastes...their big stories just dont add up....afterall EVERY time you go back to their compound ...there they are....hangin out...listening to GNR...and talking about all the mutie butt they've been kicking.....riiiigght.....and I'm the King of Siam......

True. On the other hand I've never seen a group of Talon Company mercs make it back to their home base at all.

Why do people always take game mechanics as the real thing?

Bethesda either were too lazy to generate random encounters with the Rangers or just didn't have time. Regardless, they do go out and complete missions, we just don't see it due to limitations.

That's like saying the Enclave don't give out free purified water to those taking part in genetic screening. They do (read the terminal), but you just don't see it due to game mechanics.

I've never seen anything like that on a terminal, where's the terminal at?

I can't remember exactly, but I believe it's in a camp near Old Olney, by a truck.

I like Talon Company. If only they actually got a better background, with a leader to whom I can talk to. GNR's propaganda says they kill pretty much everyone they see. True indeed when you play the game. But then I must ask, where do they recruit their mercenaries if they kill everyone? :P
Plus, it is mentioned in the Rangers' quarters that both Rangers and Talon mercenaries come across one another and that sparks tension, but never ends badly. If only it could happen to the player as well.

Like the slavers, I would have liked to be able to at least be accepted as a "friend" or "contact" for the Talon Company, given the right karma or by helping them. It's a group that would have definitely needed more background and character to be interesting. Because how they're presented in the game, they're just another group of hostile humans like raiders, with a different outfit.

This said, I'll prefer Talon over the Rangers, simply because they're more organized, have more "influence", and well...
Spoiler
they seem to be doing at least a bit of goodness by trying to take over the Capitol from the Muties.

Playing as a member of the Talon Company in that level was particularly enjoyable I must say. At the end of the day, we managed to take over the building... with heavy losses of course.

Talon Company are the number one menace in the Wasteland after Super Mutants. Reilly's Rangers pose no threat, even if they wanted to, due to their limited numbers.

I found an Enclave post where they are giving out free purified water. At the same post I found the corpses of those who "failed" their genetic screening.

I wish we could have found out who ordered the Talon Co. hit on us in the game, so we could hit 'em back. I know it's hinted at on the wiki, but the game itself is silent. Shame. :gun:

Holy crap...of course I understand this concept...my comments were in the spirit of "roleplay" and taking the game in a "literal" sense....if we were to eliminate these types of discussions on this forum then we'd have almost nothing to talk about....
