rifleman and commando perks

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 4:46 pm

it says the rifleman perk is for "single shot weapons and shotguns" and the commando perk is for "automatic weapons", well what category does the plasma rifle fall into cause its more semi auto so are semi auto considered automatic weapons cause this is a bit unclear to me, i never use assault rifles or machine guns i mainly use hunting rifle and plasma rifle so if someone has a any ideas on this i would appreciate it.

It means what it means, automatic weapons means any weapon that fire full auto, and rifle sized weapon that fires any way else is rifleman

So a "standard" plasma rifle is affected by rifleman while a plasma rifle with the full auto capacitor is affected by commando.

I think the Plasma Rifle will generally be considered a single-shot weapon. It depends on the customisation offered. If there's a single-shot shotgun or sniper rifle, or a plasma version of the Laser Musket, then those will be considered weapons governed by the Rifleman perk, but if there's an automatic plasma rifle or shotgun, that will be governed by Commando.

Actually yeah, I'm confused. The Plasma rifle was an automatic weapon in Fallout 3 and New Vegas (meaning you can just hold down the trigger), but it fired at a rate sort of reminiscent of the Hunting Rifle. Hmm. I guess it will be considered automatic though, even if it has a very slow fire rate.

Its crazy that the same weapon can be made to fit into two different categories! Oh this is going to be so much fun!!

I am European and have never seen a real weapon in all my life. Here normal people can't have weapons except people get special licenses or order forces. So I am so confused about the new weapons perks. Old games were easy because it's easier to understand if you use two hands or not to shoot. I always use small guns and ended with or a hunt rifle or an assault one. It's that commando perk??? I am lost maybe I would end with a pistol lol, that is gunslinger perk Isn't it?

From my understanding the kind of weapon the perk affects is based on the weapons rate of fire. If you can hold down Tue fire button and the weapon keeps firing till it needs to be reloaded its an automatic and falls under the commando perk, if it's a single shot per button press it's semi-automatic so rifleman perk. A new feature to fallout 4 is the ability to mod weapons including changing their rate of fire.

Kind of a grey area, huh? The plasma rifle is a rifle that shot automatically, sure, but it's not an "automatic rifle" so it should fall under the rifleman perk. If it is modified to be a one-handed pistol, that's gunslinger of course, and if it's given modifications to shoot like a fully auto or semi-auto machinegun then that's under commando.

The Rifleman Perk actually says that you do 20% more damage with non-automatic weapons.

Gunslinger=Pistols

Rifleman=non-automatic

Commando=automatic

Size Matters=Big Guns

And ontopic, has it been confirmed that Rifleman affects shotguns too? Orcz perk chart doesn't mention shotguns anywhere, just semi-auto rifles (chart not up to date?)

The last line here should be "Big Guns = Heavy Weapons" for the perk at S5

Perks are all about rate of fire and if it has a pistol grip or a rifle stock, not what the gun fires, so its all depending on what kind of shotgun you use.

orcz.com is the last place I'd check for reliable or official info haha. But as far as shotguns go, if not under rifles I can't imagine where else they'd be categorized unless they have their own category and perk ranks now.

Was this post related to mine? If so, commando and rifleman are confirmed, you can look it up in the perk clip. The other two are selfexplaining, I highly doubt Gunslinger and Heavy Weapon aren't going to improve your small gun/big gun skills.

I'd take the safe route and guess that the plasma rifle/plasma sniper would fall under rifleman along with any science related bonus. Though I think science is just an energy weapons mod/crafting unlock gate. There are obviously full automatic selections for fire rate under plasma weapon mods and those would fall under commando.

On a side note I really wish Beth would release a build calculator before release. It would be nice to plan a bit and it wouldn't really spoil anything.

I'm not sure, it seems the post I was replying to is gone. I can't remember now. And I'm not talking about the confirmed information on orcz, there's just a lot of wild speculation on there and I don't consider the site to be a good source of info. I've never even heard of it until it started getting attention because it had a nicely laid-out perk chart like it is in the game.

Plasma rifle would be one-shot, automatic would cover everything rapidly firing as you keep your finger on the left mouse. I assume semi-automatic weapons are counted as single-shot as well in this system.

Okay, sometimes you just have to laugh...

I've removed about a dozen posts dithering about armchair politics in a videogame forum, in a thread asking about the classifications of weapons in regards to perks. The off-topic stuff has been removed. Some people took it a step further and got into flaming territory. I mean sure, if you want to make rude and off-topic posts that insult other members of the forum when they're just going to get deleted anyway... :shrug:

Okay so rifleman is semi-auto, or single fire weapons, and commando is full auto weapons... So what if I make a full auto shotgun? I don't even know what to make of life anymore!

Then its commando, again the game doesn't care what you're firing, its all about firing rate and whether the weapon has a rifle stock or a pistol grip.

I'm actually taking both perks for my male and female characters, just to cover all bases (male character will use ballistic weapons, and female will use energy weapons). There seems to be too much variety of cool rifles to miss out on any!
