Riften cabaret gets the go-ahead, claims report.

Hi,

If you've read my struggles about posting photos in another post don't fret...I'm not mad really.

I've grown used to the glitches and oddities of Skyrim while I've played it...most of you probably have a fondness for the quirks, just as I do. Today, though, something happened that stopped me in my tracks and made me sit back and laugh until I cried. I can't post a picture because I can't manage to upload one but I'll try to describe the scene and then ask for any similar stories that you might have. Here goes...

It was a bright sunny morning in Riften (for a change). Mgurak, the dragonborn was keen to get going. She had to reach Fort Dawnguard and set off on what threatened to be a dangerous and world-changing encounter. She wanted to be light on her feet and rid herself of the excess baggage she had accrued on her last foray into the wilds of Skyrim. With this in mind she left Honeyside and headed for the Pawned Prawn, humming a tune as she went.

Mgurak fell in behind one of Riften's guards before she even hit the wooden bridge that crossed over the canol towards the Bee And Barb. Despite her being laden down with pillage the man slowed her down. Frowning because she couldn't squeeze past him, she muttered quietly under her breath. Behind him Serana slowed too but didn't complain.

To her astonishment, the man stopped in his tracks and mimed stepping over an invisible bench. Mgurak halted and watched, slack-jawed as the guard squatted down on the non-existant furniture, his body held in an impossible fashion as though he was really seated. He then pulled a tankard from his jerkin and proceded to drink, wave his arms around and nod to passers-by.

Was he using some sort of magic? It certainly looked like it. Mgurak carefully stepped around him and asked him a question. He replied in typical fashion. " There's an apothecary in town but it's down by the canol...be careful if you go down there!"

The dragonborn nodded, not knowing what else to say. She crossed the bridge and headed for the general goods store, looking back all the while to see the guard still squatting ridiculously on the walkway, supping his mead. "I said they were all mad," Serana muttered. Mgurak had to agree.

After haggling with Bersi over the price of her goods, they set off back to Honeyside to get ready for their adventure. The guard was still there, blissfully unaware of the spectacle he was making of himself. When they set off for the fort later that afternoon he had not moved. She wondered if he would still be happily drinking when they returned...if they returned. At least she had something to smile about to take her mind off her worries...

Apart from Serana's conversation, this really happened in the game today.

Have any of you seen anything similar? I couldn't help but laugh. In fact I was still smiling like an idiot when I went to collect my daughter from school.

Yeah, that really did make me laugh! And not much about Riften does.... horrible place, I hate it.... I actually haven't seen that particular "oddity".... but there have been others. Somewhere I have screenshots of mammoth and horse butts sticking up out of roads; mammoths up in the sky, then falling to the ground (and they're dead of course, so if you're too close, the giants are REALLY PISSED); Stormcloaks acting as if they're fighting either Thalmor or Impies, but they're just hitting empty air....

Heh, Skyrim has its share of engine issues....

Ha, well Im always telling Lydia to stop standing on the furniture....chairs normally, but beds too.

Then theres the occasional sub terrainian hunter near Haemars shame. Clearly riding a horse which is totally underground and only the hunters belly and upwards are above ground level. Still rides along though.

Bears sometimes slide along several feet without leg ani. On wheels?

Just ran into a new bug the other day. I was collecting the pieces of Mehrune's Razor and http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Ghunzulturned out to be really persistent, even for an Orc. I managed to kill him without too much trouble but he refused to, y'know, die. His health hit zero and I could search him and everything but he was still running in place yelling threats, even after I stripped him down to his undies. :lmao:I tried everything I had to knock him over: Fus Roh Dah, Beast Form, exploding crossbow bolts, fisticuffs and nothing worked.

I've not had that happen with Ghunzel, but it does occur with fair frequency - hmm. Last time I had it happen, it was some briarheart I had a bounty for. I finally just rolled my eyes, gnashed my teeth, stripped the bastard, and left. For all I know, he's still there doing his thing. That's what you get for going with the hags....

On a previous character, had one of the dead mammoths fall into the front yard of Heljarchen Hall...upside down. That wasn't the funny part, it buried itself into the ground, with only about 2/3 of all four legs sticking out and level like tables. After a couple of game days of it not disappearing, I was aggravated and Fus Ro Dah'd the darn thing, and it moved a little. Took forever, but shouted it all the way down the hill to the giant camp (already cleared) where the game finally took over and disposed of it in the normal time.

Oh, lordy - I'd forgotten this until you posted that Andra....

Years back now (probably not long after release), I had a mammoth literally fall out of the sky and all but land on top of my character. I mean, probably didn't miss her by a foot (I wonder - if it hadn't missed her by that foot, would she have died? I don't know....) This was between the Western Watchtower, and the ruined house - so like, right in the middle of the road to everywhere north and west of Whiterun....

I thought, oh well, no biggie, I'll just go around. Um. Or not. There were a couple of scenarios associated: the first was that if I left the road to either side, I got slammed with multiple encounters - wolves, bandits, assassins, skeever.... you name it, she had to deal with it; the second was that if I left the road to either side, I wound up disappearing. Serious - my character simply disappeared. Didn't matter how far I went she never became corporeal again. Fortunately save games fixed that.

I finally resorted to running back to the stables and taking a carriage to - anywhere. By the time I got back, things were back to normal. Boy that was weird though!

Kind of like http://s802.photobucket.com/user/AlBQuirky/media/Games/Single%20Player%20Computer%20Games/Skyrim/TalentedGuardRiften_zpsc23ef0ff.png.html? I've only seen this in Riften, myself, but it is kind of jarring to watch :D

I typically console, click body, "markfordelete" (no quotes) and leave the cell for a little bit or reload the game.

I do this with dragons in bad spots too... I hate skeletons in town or on the road.

Frost Moglin...that made me chuckle, especially the bit about stripping the orc down to his undies in an attempt to kill him...I've never tried that as a tactic. I can see how it would work if you pickpocketed their armour but physically, there should almost be a means of slashing their belt or braces to limit their mobility...after all, how effectively could you fight with your trousers around your ankles?

Come on Bethesda...get real and let us pull our opponents breeches down! You know it makes sense.

AlBquirky...that's exactly it!

I wish I could have posted my screenshot because it had other elements that added to the humour...oh well, I may get the hang of the image thing sometime.
