Right, getting Daggerfall very very soon

Post » Sun Mar 14, 2010 12:03 am

Yes, I know about the guides. Yes, they make no sense to me. No, I do not want to be linked to them. Now, that that's out of the way. I desperately need someone who can help me either here, or on an IM service, to install and run Daggerfall using DOSbox. I have DOSbox downloaded in Win32 form in a folder on my Desktop. Daggerfall is not in my hands but it will be soon. I'm asking now so that I don't spend hours waiting once I get it. I don't have a lot of time here. Thanks, really appreciate anyone who helps me.

Guides making no sense to you? Daggerfall is like the guides, it's about learning by doing so if you don't even try to use those manuals, you won't come far in Daggerfall.

Obviously I've tried the guides, and didn't understand them. You can't even begin to compare a complex guide (one that assumes you already have knowledge on the matter, knowledge I don't have) to a video game...

I don't want witty comments. I want help.

I know the tutorials are confusing but it will become less confusing if you go through it one step at a time. What I would do if I were you is to download ES1 Arena and practice mounting a game into dosbox with that. This is really only something that you can do by practicing.

Ah, DOS games, an era where playing computer games actually required you to know how to use a computer :)

If the guides don't make any sense, what do you expect anyone to say? The guides are step by step walkthroughs of what to do. If you don't understand them, why would you understand us? We're going to be telling you the same things. The best thing you can do between now and when the game comes in is to install DOSbox and read the documentation. Or get on the official DOSbox website and look at their introductory guides. If you understand what DOSbox is and what it does, then you'll probably get the rest.

As such, it's going to be difficult to get any help if you don't want to do any work.

1) Never said I didn't know how to use a computer
2) Never said I don't want to do any work

I simply have very little knowledge of how DOSbox works, and how to install a god-damned game from 97.

Besides, you would not be telling me the same things... if I got into a PM or IM discussion, you could give me step-by-step instructions more detailed and in-depth than the guides, and if I had a problem, instead of confusing me more, you could help me figure out what I did wrong and how to fix it. There is a big difference between a live discussion and a guide.

Liar. How can you try the guide when you don't even have the game yet. Liar.

Mod close this thread.

And learning how is just too much work? That's what Archie and I have already suggested you do. But you don't seem to want to do that, so again: what do you expect? Coming in here declaring that not only do you not understand the guides (without, mind you, pointing out what parts you don't get) but that you don't even want to put the effort into learning the software...

Whatever. You've already been given good advice in this thread. If you don't want it, then good luck and good riddance. I might suggest you reread your posts here and think about a different approach may have worked better for you.

No... I think I'll just ignore each and every one of you and get help from Freddo. Thanks for being absolutely no help whatsoever.

Wow i checked this thread again to see how you were getting on and I see you not only haven't attempted the help but you got rude and indignant instead to everyone that was trying to help you. Good luck with that.

96.

All I can say is for you to follow the guides step-by-step. DOS can be confusing at first but once you get the hang of it you'll be glad you learned how.

Well, considering I got few good suggestions here, I guess that's my only option.

I think it's pretty funny that we kindly and patiently answered all of your questions in about five different threads, then you act completely rude towards us when we give you the only advice that we can give you on this subject. Wait, maybe funny isn't the right word. What was I thinking of? Oh, right. Depressing.

Anyways, there's no reason for you not to be able to understand Freddo's guide to installing Daggerfall (stickied in this forum). I imagine that what you mean when you say you do not understand it is that you don't understand the significance of what he's asking you to do in his guide. Perhaps you don't understand what all of that "mount this and that" stuff means, or maybe you don't understand the different settings that he has you change in the config file. The Good News is that you don't have to understand what you're doing, just how to do it. That's exactly what Freddo's guide shows you. Just pretend you're a mindless automaton performing the task given to you by your programming (Freddo's guide) without even thinking about it, and you'll be fine. At most you'll be hung up on a few steps and you can create another thread here to get the help you need to get past it. The people here might even still help you even after you were a complete dike to them-they're just that sort of people. You know. Altruistic types. I can't imagine any other reason why anybody would hang around on a forum discussing a game that's over ten years old and frequently answering questions about how to run and play said game.

Heck, I don't understand nearly everything there is to understand about DOSBox, and I do just fine. I had to make a thread to get some help early on, but it wasn't that hard. You can do it, I assure you.

I'll do you a favor before you jam your other foot in your mouth further, and close your thread.

If you want help for something, then be polite when people reply. Rudely replying to just about everyone who offered advice and took the time to answer you will get you a Daggerfall game you won't be able to install.
