RIP: Construction Set

Post » Tue Dec 29, 2009 8:17 pm

Bethesda has announced bran new technology, and a new engine...

Does this mean we will have to say Adios to our faithful friend that kept Oblivion alive for 4 years?

Will they improve the engine - Or replace it?

A new engine != no modding

A new engine != a tool that couldn't be called Skyrim Consturction Set

Why would that possibly threaten the construction set? The CS is what they use to make the game. If they use a new engine, they'll have a new CS along with it, same as it was going from Morrowind to Oblivion.

I don't quite understand how their new engine = no more construction set? Obviously they will have made a new construction set for their new engine and will release it just like they did with MW,OB and Fo3. They love their modding community too much to just slap them in the face like that.

Okay, this is ridiculous.

Someone mind explaining to me the logic behind saying there will be no CS because of a new engine?

If they don't have a CS, even though I don't mod, I would probably not buy the game until a couple years after it comes out...to save money. Mods are what make the game for me. No mods = boring after a short time. I would just stay with Oblivion/Morrowind.

I am pretty sure that Todd said that they used the same engine for both games. It was just a big leap from Morrowind to Oblivion, improvement wise.

BRAN TECHNOLOGY?
I knew this day would come!
but seriously, they make the game with the construction set they distribute
if there was no construction set, they couldn't very well be making the game, could they?

Sick of these depressing threads - considering the CS in the previous two games was the exact same program Bethesda used to make the game, there obviously would be a new one. What makes you think they would discontinue modding? User made content is a pretty major part of Morrowind and Oblivion's longevity, as well as an easy way to let the community fix up all the remaining bugs and inconsistencies in the game long after Bethesda's moved on.

Case in point: look at what a mess Daggerfall was because there was so little fan involvement.

Cheese! Cheese for everyone!

I like how when you type that in google the related search is "Sheogorath"

Obviously the new mad god has added the construction set to his war against ladders and beards.

This is like the 5th thread about this.

There is about a .001% chance the CS is gone.

Well, if they licensed a new engine, rather than building their own, there might be copyright issues if they were to release a construction set; at least I think that's the case.

Of course, we don't know anything about the new engine yet, so these threads might be a little premature.

Do you really have to make threads like this? You can't just ask "will there be construction set with the new engine", you have to try troll a response by saying there is none?

Well guess what, Bethesda aint noobs. They won't say anything earlier because of it.

Bethesda loves their modding community, and it's one of the things that keeps their games alive for so long. With this new engine I am sure that they will create a nice improved Construction Set for it, with new features, etc.

Hopefully the new CS if it exists is capable of creating cliffs. I'm kind of happy that Bethesda is adventurous enough to use a new engine.

Got a link? The only press release on Bethesda's site is the Skyrim announcement.

The only official statement on the engine is on Twitter, and all it says is that it's new.

Stop worrying, Beth with give you a new CS, it may take a while to get used to but it'll happen and people will probably praise them for it.

they would be total morons not to include modding support. I can't even fathom how that would be a good idea, even from a business perspective. I wouldn't worry honestly.

People don't understand that the CS isn't just a tool they give the players; the devs actually use the CS themselves the make the game. If they're making the game, they have a CS. All they have to do is slap it on a disk and put it in with the game. It is literally that simple.

Just because its a new engine doesn't mean their won't be a CS they can make a new version a CS with a new engine anyway hell quite a few cheap engines that indie developers buy have their own version of a CS
