Same here! This came as a shock!

I always loved his sweet Baritone voice in a world of screaming tenors. I will miss him greatly

Saw him in Boston Garden in '74, at least I have a few friends who tell me I was there......some of the details are , ummm...., vague.

One of my favorite alltime movies was the Labyrinth because of him.

And His music has always been there for me in my life.

And now though he may gone physically, his iconic spirit will live on forever in the hearts and minds of countless generations to come.

I will never forget you David...

Just listening to one of my favorites - "Rebel, Rebel". The lyrics would be contemporary if it were released today. The fact that they're from a 42 year old song is pretty amazing.

strange how Bowie and Lemmy both died from cancer around the same age and time.

Was it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDkp7GysvbY? That would make for an awesome wedding moment :)

If you haven't already please watch his videos for Lazarus and Blackstar. Absolutely beautiful.
And please, consider this:
Without Bowie (like him or not) much of the music we enjoy today wouldn't be- His influence was as large as his persona.

I was pretty shocked to see the news about David Bowie, my initial reaction was disbelief and skepticism. He had personal values, that a significant amount of people lacked. Keeping the cancer a secret for the sake of his families privacy, and unlike some individuals who just care about money, David Bowie had a true passion for creativity, as proven by the fact even when being critically ill with cancer he was still releasing new songs.

Producing two final songs, his passion for creativity was so great that even one of the worst diseases in the world wasn't enough to destroy his passion for what he did in life, and he still wanted to continue making more music, even when he knew he didn't have much longer to live, as he released two final songs. Immortalizing part of himself in a sense in every song.

RIP David Bowie and may all your songs, all your creative inventions live on forever.

And now Alan Rickman (69, of cancer). This isn't the greatest start to a new year.

RIP to all of them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kszLwBaC4Sw is such an amazing thing. He gives credit to his influences, pokes fun at himself, and shows his humanity- knowing that this is his dirge. Class act, all the way.

Best cover to date and appropriate as all get out.

Bowie approved.

Edit: this was filmed the day Commander Hadfield had turned over command of ISS the day before he returned to Earth in 2013.

Was apparently a legal snafu about it and Bowie was on Chris' side, but this is the only song of his he did not own the rights to.

It's been given license for I think 2 years on certain conditions after a huge stink was thrown as of 2014 and set a legal precedent as its outside the world and a legal grey area.

Bowie thought it was great. They never met, but emailed regularly, and Chris was saddened to hear of his passing.
